Introductions and Procrastination Discussion

If you're just joining, please introduce yourself here. This is also the section for general discussion about procrastination topics - articles you've read, questions, thoughts, insights, etc.

Hello all,

Hi!

As I write this I'm 'procrastinating' from something else..  namely, I'm in the supposedly-last year of my degree program and the work has become largely self-paced.  ..Terrible for me!!  Not sure what else to say, but I did want to post in the intro forums before posting elsewhere.

25 yo, California, USA

New to PA and I need help! I am in trouble =/

Hey guys.

Hello, this is my first post :).

Hello, fellow comrades:

I'm very happy to be here. I was just accepted in the forums :D. Thanks a lot to Pro for the service :).

How to go to bed earlier?

I noticed there is a lot of people here with this problem. So I thought I'd start a thread on HOW TO GO TO BED EARLIER.

Going to sleep is such a big obstacle for me. When the night comes, sleeping feels like a huge waste of a few free hours. Hours I could spend any way I wanted. Plus, I really like it when the whole house is asleep, as I am a loner. The night makes me relaxed and creative.

introducing

Hello,

Just joined so perhaps a little introduction is in place.

Hello, My Name is Sarah, and I'm a Procrastinator

The first step is admitting it right? :) Currently, I run my own business, so it is very difficult to motivate myself to work even though I have an awesome hubby who goes to work every day and does other things at home, too. I want to be able to provide for both him and our future children. I want to change. I choose to change, and I trust that this forum can be an advocate for helping me in the process.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Please help me email my mum!

I'm expecting an important health-related email from my mum this week, and she'll be very upset indeed if I don't reply.

I have a huge amount of resistance to interacting with my parents - email is the only contact we have at the moment, and I often don't reply to emails for weeks or months. Probably goes without saying on this forum, but please could I ask that you don't try to make me feel more guilty about this than I already do, because it'll make it even harder for me to face dealing with it.

Greetings, I'm Fermiona...

Greetings, I'm Fermiona... and I am a procrastinator. :-P

Procrastination has been a part of my life for such a long time, that it seems nearly impossible I could ever get rid of it. It brought me problems in school, I'm always late, I procrastinate even when it comes to sleep... I often go to bed at 5 AM, I eat microwave-melted cheese just because I'm too lazy to cook myself a dinner.

Yet another born on planet procrastination nation.

Hello,

I am another person born on planet procastination.  I have ADD so I get distracted easily.  I'm getting down to the extreme wire on getting my grad school applications in.  I have so much to do and it just keeps happening.

My biggest trap is procrastinating getting started for the day until the last possible minute.  Once I get started, I'm usually good to go, but in the morning I often end up finding distractions and so I am often not even dressed until afternoon, even though most weekdays I'm up decently early.

Specific ways to combat procrastination habits

Hello all,

The experiment of having nothing to do.

So, I graduated. I did this, by procrastinating like there was no tomorrow, and pulled through so last minute that I did not get into the Masters-Programme, simply because bureaucracy is not adjusted to procrastinators and I didn't get a verification on time.

Sadly, that was so devastating and dissappointing I completely forgot to be happy about having managed to graduate, but then Procrastination tends to eat away happiness in achievements.

Newbie here

Hi fellow procrastinators,

Bass-ackward resolution

O.k., so I know the way resolutions normally work is that one makes a change STARTING on New Year's Day.

But I have a resolution that I need to make UNTIL New Year's Day!  From now till then, I have the holidays, a trip and a new job to get ready for.  So, my resolution is to go off of web surfing through Jan. 1.

Ground rules:

On the edge of giving up

I'm tempted to just drop out of school and do something with my life that will allow me not to want to die when my addiction beats me. This is too much. If I don't get better soon, I might have to face the fact that I may never and I may die an underachieving, depressed, broken man. Why fight it?

Anxiety/Procrastination/Meds?

I came to a realization today.

I'm a college student... a graphic design major. This means I get a lot of big, long-term projects. I often have 4-5 weeks, or even more, to work on things. This should be plenty of time, if I pace myself right. But, of course, I do little to nothing until the last minute.... usually (ok, ALWAYS) staying up all night the day before a project is due.

The reason I don't start sooner is that I get really anxious about the projects... And not starting them means (temporarily) that I don't have to deal with that anxiety.

best place to be for support

ive just joined and i have read so much stuff on these pages of PA that i already feel i have found true friends. because we share the same problem. Im excited to at last tackle this paralyzing problem that i didnt realise i have had all my life. Its only become more noticeable because i am trying to achieve greater things now and failing to accomplish has made me feel guilty ...everyone in my life who cares are asking why this why that..i have 2 degrees and im procrastinating using them to earn money.

Need tips, need to change, need to finally find a way to deal with this :(

Hi,

I've signed up here 2 years ago, posted a few times in the daily check-ins, but overall haven't done much. :/
I try getting more organized, try setting up schedules, try staying away from the internet at work, but whatever I do, I still fail over and over again.

I try to set up rules like not staying up all night, but in moments like right now, when I have to finish something (or feel like I have to finish something), I bend them and try to force myself to get things done, despite it rarely working and me ending up either not doing the job or doing it last minute or late again...

Hello

Hello

Procratination has just about ruined my life. Iam in my early 30's, stuck in a dead end shitty low paying job. Looking back, I can see how many years ago I procrastinated at University while studying caused me to drop out. Ive been stuck in one dead end job after another. The past cant be undone, I acknowledge that yet I still procrastinate about improving my life. I can easily see all I have to do is apply for another, better job & do some study to get industry certifications, yet iam totally paralysed.

So this is it ?

I am a 44 years old guy from Germany, so I am not a native English speaker.

Three years ago, I lost my job as a web developer, which I was able to hold for nearly eight years, constantly battling procrastination. Finally procrastination won. I was not able to start new projects any more. This state persisted, so my boss had no other choice than to fire me. I have been unemployed since then, partly because I procrastinated on job search, partly because it is nearly impossible here in Germany to get another job if your resume shows that you failed in one.

it's getting worse!

I had a week's annual leave last week.  The plan of course was to catch up with a whole load of outstanding things,  I got some done, but an awful lot not.  I wasn't well for a couple of days which didn't help.  My husband's severe disability is showing no signs of improving, and although he likes driving around in his brand new electric wheelchair, he hasn't yet managed to ge tin and out of it without my help.  So I'm not only doing everything for me, I'm doing everything for him as well!
