New here, going by "RN J"

Greetings,

I am new here and my name is Right Now J, though I think I'll be going by RN J.

I am just getting started after finally realizing the toll procrastination has taken on the quality of my life. How did I not notice this before, why didn't anyone else see it and point it out to me? People seem to think of procrastination as simply being lazy, something to make light of, maybe even laugh about. Not so! I have come to the conclusion that it is the manifestation of emotional issues, a coping mechanism that actually doesn't help me cope well at all!

Offensive and tasteless?????

We have some particularly annoying net-nannying software at work which has decided to block today's check-in thread as "offensive and tasteless".  It's done it before, but when I've accessed the threads at home I've never been able to identify why.  The only posters on the thread since me are Clement and Vic, neither of whom strike me as likely to post that sort of message.

Help needed desperately!

Hi my name is Samy (Samantha),

I desperately need help. I have done 12-step programs before and someone recently recommended Procrastinator's Anonymous to me. Procrastination and lack of motivation is ruining my life and it's making me desperately unhappy. It's really scaring me. Please can someone sponsor me and hold my hand and guide me.

intro: GTD practitioner, possibly ADHD

Hi all,

Hi I'm DN,

Hello,

I was relieved to find such a place exists. Here's my story.

Finally Posting

So I am pretty much ruining my life with my procrastination. I am seeing a therapist but I have been too embarassed to tell her about it. I either lie and say things are fine or avoid the topic. I know that this is a very stupid thing to do and I really want to come clean but I don't know how to go about this. I know I really need to deal with this problem but I am afraid of how she will react.

Hi all. NightOwl checking in

New Guy in Deep S***

Hello everyone!,

After reading so many of these posts I almost feel like I am related to half the people who are on this site. I am currently a mature ages student who, even as a mature aged student, is struggling with getting on with my work and now I am 4 weeks behind on 2 subjects of uni lectures, readings, assessments and assignments (currently still doing one that's overdue and have another major one due in 8 days!.

Hello everybody, I'm new!

Hi group!!

I've just been made a member by the good pro, so here comes my introduction. I'm a Swede, closing on to the fifthies, married and working as a technical writer. I've felt miserably for most of my life without ever knowing why. I've had few friends, few romantic encounters but does usualy perfom well at work.

I've have just begun (read half) to read Mallinger's Too Perfect, and have found.... ME.......

Progress!

A GREAT week.  I had a technical proposal which had to be done by midnight Friday which was very important to me.  But I have a lot of other things going on.  In the past I would have phoned at the last minute and asked for an extra day, or at best gone on changing the note back and forth till 11:30 PM.

However!

Addiction

How I procrastinate in eight easy ways

My bad habits and character defects associated with procrastination

I’ve spent some prayerful time reflecting on these over the last few days. I had finished a legal/business matter a few weeks ago and last week finished an important admin matter. I have no other pressing commitments to myself or others and am devoting my time and energy to working on myself which means getting on with things.

I’m sharing and inviting thoughts, criticism, advice or whatever as I want very much to change. So here I go:

Faults

1. Not finishing what I am doing

A procrastinator, or just lazy?

I'm
a student, I study ICT, and when looking around at how my fellow
students are doing, I'm part of the students who actually get tasks done
on time and complete them instead of stopping halfway.
So, you'd think I'm doing fine.

But
every single time I have to hand in some programming exercises (or some
other task), I put if off not only until the day before the deadline,
not even until the evening of the deadline, but I literally start so
late I don't go to sleep those days...

Just joined and very grateful!

Hi everyone,

Just want to say hello and thank God for finding this site and thank all of you for contributing.

I've been reading your entries while waiting to be registered and found them very helpful. I identify with almost everything and now that I can log in and be part of the chats i can identify even more with what's being shared. I feel a bit shy though and the feeling that I'm worse than everybody else is coming up.

 HEY EVERYBODY!Laughing

I think I've been putting off adding my first comment here...

Just keep starting

Why am I here?

Because I have had enough. Because I do not want to procrastinate any more. Because everything else I've tried has not worked. Because I want to change.

Because I will not give up.

I've been a procrastinator all my life. I don't know what the reason is. Is it ADHD? Is it avoidance of anxiety? Is impulsiveness? Is it perfectionism? Is it all of the above or none of the above?

I dont' know. I don't care.

I just want it to stop.

urgent vs. important...

found this article:

http://www.thesimpledollar.com/2011/04/12/separating-the-urgent-and-the-...

You can follow the link to read the whole article for a definition of the problems and tips...

the idea hit home to me when i start to think about actually getting down to work-   i had never really distinguished urgent things from important things until today... i definitely use urgent things to justify procrastinating on important things (i can't file...people keep calling and walking in...)

New to this board

Hi....

I am cricket.

I procrastinate ...all the time. I seem to do my best *work* at the last minute, that is why I am always on the spot for assignments at work or school. My house is another matter. I have a room i cannot use due to clutter. I would be able to live better if i could declutter and stop procrastinating about bill paying, cleaning, etc. I cannot stop. I do not know what to do. I am frozen in time.

this anxiety is irrational!

To call the mechanic was on my to do list. After I called him (actually texted him) I felt such incredible relief!

W H Y ? ?                    W H Y ? ?                  W H Y ? ?

What is so scary about calling the mechanic about when the car will be ready? It's not about the price; I am quite aware that any time the mechanic even looks at the car it's in the 100's of $'s. And I have the money!
