Tool of the Week

The Tool of the Week is:

3.  Ask Yourself Why: While you are visualizing doing the task, see if you can detect what it is about the task that feels odious to you, what uncomfortable feeling you are avoiding. Knowing what's behind the avoidance can help you get past it - for example, address real problems or ignore irrational fears.

newcomer... hello... again!

Helo everyone!

I'm new here... sort of... I joined the forum a few months ago, as I suspected I 'might' have a problem with procrastination... and then I figured I'd 'give it some time'.... well, I've realised I really have a problem... lately I've suddenly realised just how much fear and procrastination has pervaded every area of my life...

Ha...I created an account over 2 years ago and then forgot about it...

So, I'm procrastinating and surfing the web tonight, feeling miserable and guilty about all the work I wasn't getting done....as usual. A google search on procrastination brought me to a post on this forum....and then I notice that my web browser had already filled the account login on the left with my info. I clicked to login and realise that I signed up for an account here over 2 years ago, but then never really came back and then forgot about this site. Maybe I wan't ready to tackle my problem back then?

Description of the compulsive procrastinator in AA Big Book

Hi all -

this morning, as I was reading chapter two of the AA Big Book, I came across this description of the Alcoholic.

Introducing Myself

I stumbled on this site while googling for some sort of solution for my extremely screwed up life – through my googling I stumbled on PRO’s quote “The jokes about procrastination infuriate me.

new to site

Hey all, so I decided to bite the bullet and stop procrastinating about introducing myself here ;)

Procrastination in bed

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but it is a very specific case (I think) and I couldn't figure out where else it should go.

I know this might sound odd, but I do a lot of procrastinating in bed, either to avoid going to sleep or avoid getting up. This wastes away huge swathes of my day. Indeed, the frustration this causes has often brought me to tears.

Thing is, when I'm in bed I'm alone. It is just me, nobody to check up. How can I go about wasting hours of my life away like this? Can anybody please help me through this?

Introduction of myself

Hello friends! I am Damodar from India. My shortname is Damoo. I am new member of this website. I came to this website because when I have to do something I say 'Not Now', 'Later', 'I will see'. So then I come to know that this is called procrastination and this site is for everyone who has this problem. I am very thankful to the webmaster of this site for enrolling me as a member. I am looking forward towards working with you.

Thank You.

New and

Hello there,

I've just joined after admitting that I have an addictive problem with chronic procrastination. Previously, I was not aware that it was a viable situation; that all of my problems were just down to something else. However, after trying other ways of solving it alone, last night I finally decided to tell someone that I think that my procrastination is an addiction. She found your site and pointed me here; it was like an awakening. I was reading so many accounts of things that I associated with, that I thought only happened to me.

New here and need support

Internet Addiction and Procrastination

Does anyone else experience a catch 22 with having access to this site for procrastination, et they also have problems wwith wasting excessive time surfing the net?

Nice to be here with my kind

Hello.  I am so glad to be here.  I never heard of anyone else having this problem.  What a relief!  I have struggled with this for YEARS.  Since finding this site tonight, I have done a lot of reading online.  All instead of getting ready for a really important day today.  I do work well under pressure though, which is how this day will begin.  So what should I do from here?

the god of no discomfort and no unpleasantness

A friend sent me something that made me think of an amazing passage from a book called Nothing Special, by Charlotte "Joko" Beck, a zen teacher. Thought I'd share it with everybody here — for me, it certainly speaks to the core fear I feel every single day when I open my eyes in the morning, a fear that often manifests in procrastination and perfectionism.

there lives inside me a restless, angry, rebellious boy who feels forsaken...

... and lately, he's been making his presence felt.

I had a rough week. One day I'd doggedly bring my dysfunctional behavior at work into the light — into the PA Chatbox — and just report what was going on. Which was failure, overwhelmingly; I'd painstakingly make a plan and then fail to stick to it, over and over and over. And consciously I'd congratulate myself for sticking with it despite it being a painful process that I can't see delivering me any instant gratification.
