Social Time Around The World

This fascinating article just posted by the BBC.
Bidding Adios to Manana:

"At noon on the dot, punctuality will make its debut in Peru. Lateness will be a thing of the past, or so its government hopes."

Sirens will blare and church bells will ring to remind 27 million Peruvians to synchronise their clocks with time set by the Peruvian Navy."

How to create a Writing Portfolio

This question is mainly directed at Pro, because I think (hopefully correctly) that he's done some work in writing, but anyone else's contributions would be much appreciated as well.

How do you organise your writing clips/portfolio? I've been working as a freelance writer for a while, and I already have my portfolio prepared from a few years before, but it doesn't feel very professional to me. I've tried finding online how-to articles to show me how it's supposed to be arranged, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Anyone knows what to do? It's kind of urgent - I need to send it a

Edit Option

Hello, everyone :)

I know, this isn't exactly the best kind of introduction thread, but seeing how I'm still adjusting to the forum's layout and system, a bit of help will go a long way in insuring my (and everyone else's) sanity - trust me ;).

So, the editing option. Is it just me, or does the edit option disappear once someone replies to your post? If that's normal, then is there a way I can regain it, or is it gone forever?

horses

I'm splitting off the discussion about horses to the "off topic" board.

Yoda - Please don't post any more giant pictures in the forum. I'm going to shrink these. But that's work, so next time I'll have to just delete them.

Also, please don't post any more horse pictures in the main boards. If you want to post horse pictures, shrink them so they don't mess up the board formatting, and then post them in the Off Topic board.

Thanks.

bleep in a box (uncensored)

I thought this was one of the funniest things I'd seen in a long time. But if you're easily offended, don't click.

Tonight's 12 step meeting

I was at my fellowship's meeting tonight in town, and heard someone say "Don't get tomorrow confused with yesterday." Same guy brought his cat, which took off in the three-story church, but thank goodness it came back. Can you imagine?

In other news...

DD0 just started crawling this week. :jawdrop: That's pretty exciting.

Trip Down Under

Don't even have time to post in bookends right now, but I wanted to announce (especially to Milo) that my son got selected to be part of a People to People student trip to New Zealand and Australia this summer. It's a peace-making/international relationship-building and student leadership sort of thing; we'll learn more about it at an informational meeting October 1. It's an honor to be selected and means his teachers think quite highly of him. He's WAY excited!

Chickens

Hey Slider, I was reviewing some older posts and saw that you like to "feed the chickens," I keep chickens, too. Just one more reason for me to stick around on this board for awhile.

Steve Irwin

Well, that was an accident waiting to happen. I'm amazed he stayed alive as long as he did.

climate in Australia

I thought I'd move this discussion to the off-topic board - especially since the threaded discussion was getting extremely indented!

Milo wrote:
116 degrees... That was where I grew up, not where I live, but it's not much different here, maybe 2 degrees cooler in the day and 3-4 warmer at night (I grew up in the outback near the desert - hot days, chilly nights).

Yes, we have snow in Australia, in the mountains in NSW and Victoria. But we aren't known for our skiing holidays

It sometimes snows at lower elevations but not often and if it does it melts quickly and doesn't build up. And it never snows in the west, the outback (80% of Australia!)or the top end (Qld and NT).

Pro - i know i asked before, but don't remember where I asked.
how do you change font colors? i should check out a book or research HTML and learn this :)

Procrastination has been - and is - my alcohol…..

Hello fellow Procrastinators – I am new here and would like to join your crowd.

Within the last couple of days it has settled in my mind that procrastination has had the same effect on me and my life as alcohol, drugs, gambling and the likes has had on other people lives. I have an extended list of unfinished projects, lost friends, I am divorced, more then broke and my professional career is light-years from what it could have been. The bright side of the story is that I am beginning to see all this more clearly – and in this process it is very uplifting to find a website like this. Thanks – whoever is the mother or father here (“Pro

new here

Hi everybody,

I am new here. I am 27 and I think, I already procrastinated when I was a little kid (homework).
Then I had a really bad time around my early 20ies when I got really depressed about my procrastinating. I am still procrastinating but don't feel as bad about it anymore.

I found the aspect of addiction very interesting. I have to put away my TV regularly because I sit in front of it for hours even though most of it doesn't interest me. I eat all the sweets in one packet almost at once. When I go out with a smoker, I smoke even though I hate the feeling in my lungs and the taste the next morning.

Welcome!

Just wanted to say a warm welcome to cydness :)

It's been kind of quiet round here for a while, cydness. Have a look around - there are some excellent articles, and let us know what you think.

I'm not posting so much these days, because the anti-procrastination stuff is working and I'm doing very little procrastination (I used to come here more when I was procrastinating, but I'm here tonight because I'm doing that 'guilt-free play' thing the book authors are always telling us about - I thought it was mythological but, hey, it exists!).

Apple Tiger Widgets I Like

These widgets for Mac OS X, Tiger have really been helpful for me:

Prod Me
Countdown Plus

and just to see where you are in the scheme of things, particularly the amount of sunlight left in the day...

Sunlit Earth
Sol

finally, a morbidly funny widget posted...though I don't think I'd install it myself, I had a giggle at the developers comment

New Articles?

Pro, how are you doing as we haven't heard from you lately? Just busy I hope, and not procrastinating!

I was wondering if we could have some more articles? The ones you've posted so far have been really helpful, and I think I'm ready to take another step and implement something new!
