Procrastination has been - and is - my alcohol…..
Hello fellow Procrastinators – I am new here and would like to join your crowd.
Within the last couple of days it has settled in my mind that procrastination has had the same effect on me and my life as alcohol, drugs, gambling and the likes has had on other people lives. I have an extended list of unfinished projects, lost friends, I am divorced, more then broke and my professional career is light-years from what it could have been. The bright side of the story is that I am beginning to see all this more clearly – and in this process it is very uplifting to find a website like this. Thanks – whoever is the mother or father here (“Pro

You should've married me!
'I have surfed the web until 4 AM while my wife was missing me in bed'
And ~I~ have surfed the net until 4am whilst my DSO was in bed! (I wonder what it is about 4am - I think it's the daylight and the dawn chorus that send me to bed!). I was just going to extol the virtues of auto-shutdown, but I've actually just overridden it to reply to this post ;)
(I don't actually want to marry ~any~one BTW, so don't get worried, LOL!).
I would also recommend the article on time-bingeing. That has made a big difference to me too.
As for feeling less crazy here - I've almost come to feel that procrastination is 'normal'. I get so much understanding here, that I'm surprised now when I come across someone who doesn't understand procrastination (I read some college guidelines for tutors that talked about students who were 'just procrastinating' - it made it sound like it was a conscious choice and was something we could just stop doing, like flicking a switch).
(Sorry - I think I got sidetracked there!).
Thanks

Just a short hello from me after a weekend away from computer.

Hi Carsten
Good to see you back. Why don't you try out the bookending? Find the thread with today's date. Hope to see you there.
Welcome
Welcome, Carsten!
I am here very shortly and it has already helped me quite a lot - and as Pro says, it will help you too.
Hope to hear more from you very soon.
Anouk
Hi Carsten - Been there, done that!!
Hi Carsten,
Welcome!! I can relate (sadly). And yes, I created this site. It's been very healing for me to find others who share this excrutiating problem. We've been supporting each other through bookending, and that's been very helpful to quite a few of us. I hope you'll try it, too.
If you don't know what I mean by bookending, click on the "Articles" button at the top of the page, and take a look. And as long as you're at it, click the Polls button and vote! :)
I'm glad you're here. The more of us who are here and posting, the more we all are helped. We can help each other in a way that no one else can help us - because we understand each other!!
Quite a few of us are doing better, and you can, too. Believe me, there's no worse procrastinator on this earth than me. I shudder when I think about the wreckage I've left behind me - the broken relationships, missed opportunities, ruined careers - and I've gone YEARS without filing tax returns. I'm changing, and so can you!!
