Introductions and Procrastination Discussion

If you're just joining, please introduce yourself here. This is also the section for general discussion about procrastination topics - articles you've read, questions, thoughts, insights, etc.

Hi I guess

Well, I'd like to introduce myself, like everyone else here, as a prime example of a procrastinator.  I'm brand new to the group and well to posting anything online in general.

The Ten Commandments (no not those you are thinking of .......

..... but those written by Angelo Roncalli, later Pope John XXIII)

Unfortunately I couldn't find a link to them in English but I think he must have had procrastinators in mind when he wrote his Eighth Commandment:

<<Only for today I will make an exact programme.  Perhaps I will not fully adhere to it, but I will make it.  And I will safeguard myself from two evils:  hectic and indecisive actions.>>

Hello and an introduction

Hey everyone. I'm Tristan.

Hello!

Hi all! I'm Kristen, a freshman at a liberal arts college in the Northeast, and I've been a procrastinator since at least middle school, perhaps before.

I want to know if anybody is the way I am.

Today, my parents called me out of my room and told me that my insurance had been stopped. I needed to get into college to get it back again.

When they were explaining it, I felt like a child being punished. I couldn't do anything but nod and stand there as they said what they needed to and left.

I keep thinking I want to kill myself. This isn't special, since its been a habit of mine, since third grade, when things get rough. But I'm really depressed.

I'm not new, but I only made one post here a long time ago when I was afraid to graduate from high school.

What are you thankful for today?

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, let's list some things we're thankful for this week!

I'm thankful for this group, it has certainly made a difference in my life.

And I'm really thankful for central heat.

This goes against all the recommended advice - The Ultimate "Gulag" Method

The recent economic troubles have thrown me for a loop, the place I worked part time shut down (it was actually going to happen sooner or later). That threw me off though and recently I allowed things to get totally out of control again.

What are your spiritual practices?

I know many of the members here have some regular spiritual practice; often that's on people's daily check-in lists.

I am a regular churchgoer (two different churches, actually -- my own UU church and my wife's Christian church) and find both to be meaningful and welcoming places for my very loose, vague, quasi-Christian, quasi-Buddhist, relatively uninformed liberal theology.

But I don't have any kind of personal spiritual practice that I devote time to every day. I'm interested in finding one but I have no idea where to start.

Hey everyone

I attend University in Canada and I've haven't gone to my classes in THREE DAYS. So, I'm really mad at myself. I've been a procrastinator most of my life, probably since Grade One or Grade Two (age 6 or 7). I would just arrive to school late, skip and avoid work. It's crazy to think how I'm even in University with my bad school record. But here I am, and I used to think it was because I didn't care enough or knew what I wanted to do in life to really dedicate myself but now that I know for sure what I want to do with my life, I'm still procrastinating.

Hello - new guy here!

First off - a little about who I am so you know where I am coming from.  If it doesn't matter to you, please feel free to skip the next paragraph.

Which way am I procrastinating?

This bugs me quite often.

Say I've written some music for a project, and it's at a stage where nobody in the entire world, except for me, has heard it. I'd make a decision to keep it that way until I 'release' it, however that may be, so I wouldn't upload it to music profile websites or send it to friends etc. Imagine me feeling very strongly that no one person would be allowed to hear it until it was available for everyone to hear.

Anyone interested in a separate progress/recovery thread

Is anyone else interested in having a progress/ recovery milestones thread in another section?.. I'd find that helpful. (maybe in the questions, answers, introductions section)

Time Estimation

I consistently underestimate or overestimate how long something is going to take, or how long it will take to get somewhere.   Is this a common problem for us?  If others have experience with this and found ways to improve, I'd love to hear about it!

Hello, I'm Chotrain and I'm a Procrastinator

Hello all, I'm Chotrain and I'm a Procrastinator!

An Introduction, and somewhat revelation.

Hi there,

I’m Tom, 18 years of age and a musician. I live in the UK, and as of the 9th November 2008, am an admitted chronic procrastinator.

new here--intro

Hello-- I'm Julia, I'm 23, and have been a chronic procrastinator for as long as I can remember. I finally have decided that I can't keep living like this, and willpower alone has never really worked. In the past, I've struggled with eating disorders (mainly bulimia) and went to OA for that. I also went to Al-Anon for codependency/family issues..

Login Problems? Rich Text?

Hi.

I have both a laptop and a desktop computer... The laptop is a Mac and the desktop is PC. For some reason, I can only log in here on my laptop.... I was just wondering if anyone else has the same problem?

I am also having trouble formatting my text. I used a strikethrough and changed the color of some of the text in my posts, and neither will show up... any tips?

Thanks,

Sammy

A re-introduction

Hi,

I've been an on and off user of this site for several months now. It's always been difficult for me to stay. And I'd convinced myself before that I didn't need what this site provided and that it was of no use. Then, last week, I took a close friend of mine to a Gambler's Anonymous meeeting. After sitting through this meeting, I realized that recovery doesn't just happen by going to meetings; you have to make it happen. And, if you have a group supportive of your actions, that makes it so much easier. It isn't just "take" either, you have to give back to the community.

GeorgeSmiley: Another major relapse

I couldn't really find another more suitable heading for this so I opted for here. It felt "too big" to go in the daily check-in list.

Bottom line: I've experienced some major regression in the last several weeks. Prompted by what? Probably stress [mounting unmet deadlines again]; political distraction; stress with the youth class I teach with Mrs. GS [alluded to in some check-ins].

And what happens when this builds up: I deliberately turn away from the tools that are available to me to help me manage things, and instead pursue escapes.

Hello

I'm new here, very excited to be with people who "get it". I'm an uber-procrastinator who's taken the art to a whole new level. I live in my head where the intention of doing stuff takes the place of actually doing it.

I'm as usual running behind, so I'll post this note and get back later today. If I placed this comment in the wrong spot, my apologies in advance.
