Ok It's Friday, I don't have uni but I have to work on loads of things uni-related: if I keep putting off this work I will get more stressed and depressed than I already am!!! But first I need to:
write email and create document to attach outlining my situation re next semester's 'big' module (which I'm really scared about... but I'll get there)
walk dogs
have breakfast
get to meeting 11am.
better bring laptop with me so's I can hit the library...
be productive/make a plan/stay focused
Thanks Tracy-la for the post about WOOP, I'm trying it and I like it :).
___________________________________________________________________________ It's an inside job...
I dragged myself into uni this morning and was really glad I did: my class was helpful, I made a decision, I got lots of ideas and we finished early. Now I have to begin making a plan as to how to get on top of everything, knowing that I can do it, I'm capable, if I will just stop sabotaging myself. I think the biggest hindrance is my own egative self-talk, the persistent whining inside my skull about how I'm really just not that good at anything and the delights of mediocrity: just disappear Jane!!! Just sink into obscurity and don't trouble anyone with your presence and your ... blah blah blah... So I really need to start cordoning off that bit of my brain that does that: like an emergency worker keeping people back from the scene of an accident: "Keep Back!!!! You're in the way!!!!! We're saving lives here so stay away!!!!!!" I quite like that, apart from the connotations of disaster and life-threatening events... but that's where I'm at just now, and that's ok, I am taking the right action.
So, plan the next 90 minutes. 3x25 pomos and 3x5 min breaks.
1st pomo: let's crack on with shakespeare. I need to find some research to get my presentation on track.
2nd pomo: P & C: decide on an essay question. I have some experience with a company working with adults with learning difficulties and it would be silly not to use it. Research.
3rd pomo: D & T: as I am so very very behind with EVERYTHING, get an outline reader's report done for Stockholm, which I believe is in my bag already and which I probably already started writing a few weeks ago.
Now to the chatroom to burst.

Letting Go of Self-Criticism
Look how far we've come! It's good to focus on the task ahead, on what remains to be done. It's important to stop and feel pleased about what we've accomplished too.Yes, it may seem that the change has been slow. At times, change is grueling. Yes, we've taken steps backward. But we're right where we're supposed to be. We're right where we need to be.
And we have come so far.Sometimes by leaps, sometimes with tiny steps, sometimes kicking and screaming all the while, sometimes with sleeves rolled up and white knuckles, we've learned. Grown. Changed.
Look how far we've come.Today, I will appreciate my progress.I will let myself feel good about what has been accomplished.

Already done: HP, plank (1 min while waiting for kettle to boil), juice, breakfast, prepared veg for slow cooker, put on slow cooker, loaded dishwasher.
To do:
brush teeth, wash face, dress!
walk dogs
update diary/text D. re thursday
ring laptop people and find out when I'll get it back!!!!
get head around the fact that I have less and less time available to do what needs doing: deadlines deadlines deadlines!!!! And I need to be vigilant against negativity (a tall order (which is itself a negative thought!!!))
meeting 12-1.30 (ask self, is this a priority? or more avoidance?)
values task instead of actual session 2-3 (shouldn't take this long)
go to library, borrow laptop, work. Plan what to do. Prioritise. Pretend it's easy. Fake it to make it!!!
Stay connected to HP and to positive thoughts and feelings. 'I love and accept myself exactly as I am'
Use tools, use timers, use chatroom.
Thanks everyone for being here, and this site.

Thanks Rising up . I "noticed" many many years ago about my "feelings" . There is so much new scientific info on this today, gives me so much hope, they all say "awareness" is the first step. I always liked the slogan in AA "Bring the body and the mind will follow"
Thanks to vic for this: "I do not have to be controlled by my feelings" ...
This is my struggle today as every one of my feelings right now wants to sleep and put off yet again making these doctor appointments. The more each day goes by not doing them, the less time I have, the more pressure I feel and the more I want to put it all off ... defeating my original purpose.
My health issue(s) have been affecting my feelings this week, and though my mind is willing my feelings are trying to control the situation.
Today I'd like to relieve myself of the pressure and just focus on ONE thing at a time. There is no other way to go about it. If I say I have to do ALL THIS I know I won't do any of it.
Perhaps I can make ONE doctor phone call today. Maybe. Perhaps. We'll see.
Just do one thing in front of me now. Goes for job apps too. If I say I have to do ALL of them none will get done. That's not helpful. But doing ONE is.

Re: My chat post: "two things that have started to work for me: allowing myself the time i
need to do "nothing" until I can ramp back up again, and breaking scary
projects/tasks into the lowest, simplest, easiest task ... the more I
break down/prep, the more likely I am to follow through to the next
harder part."
I was referring to the times when I just know I will not be able to go through, face or follow up on something I generally tend to avoid ... I've learned that beating myself up into submission to do these types of tasks just doesn't work. Instead going through the feeling and "allowing" myself to temporarily take a break from the pressure of doing it gives me a sense of "safety" ... it's like a temporary period where I ALLOW myself to rest in a safe bubble, gradually doing small things to eventually rise up and face a lesser, smaller task gradually, until I feel strong enough to do the bigger, scarier task.
Constant pressure or beating myself up just takes it toll and ultimately does not work. I call it the "pendulum" ... if I pressure myself TOO HARD to do something ... it is inevitable that I will end up avoiding the task even more. This is not helpful behavior, and better to let myself "cocoon" where I can build up.
This scripture I think explains it best:
Isaiah 40:31
"but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they
shall walk and not faint."
Maintenance tasks, do what works for me, think good thoughts someone said “all action is born in thought, life is reflection of thinking”“Life is a process--just one thing after another. When you lose it, just start again.”R.Carlson
I don't think I'll have time to get to a meeting tomorrow UNLESS I focus (ah those fateful words...) But I really want to get this completed. I can do it!!!!
get up early-ish (7.30?) HP and step-work OR morning pages
walk dogs, juice, breakfast
get comfortable in front of the computer and WRITE!!!! Keep it basic, keep it simple, embellishments can be added later if needed. THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO KEEP GOING AND GET IT DONE.
if possible, get to meeting.
get to 2pm appointment
get to uni to finalise presentation
also work more on section of adaptation I'm doing with B.
give self pat on back for trying, for persevering, and for succeeding on OWN terms :)
go home, eat, walk dogs, bed...
