REPORTING IN ON FORMING HABITS

i HAVE done all but two days this month on my commitment to do some planning - imperfectly.  9 days in a rwo.  That is 15 of 17

 

 Jan was 21 of 24 and Feb was 22 of 28.

 

Also is anyone having a problem witht he froum posts.  The site givees tme the error msg that I need to choose a forum but a forum was chosen

 

 

 

 

re: cannot start new threads, & can't edit old thread-starters

Here is what i see -- it asks for a first choice of forum which I can select or edit with a dropdown menu,
but it wants you to select a second forum --
It says "PLEASE CHOOSE" -- yet there is nothing to choose from.

When this problem start, that you can't create new forum threads? I have the same problem, but it seems that SOME people are able to do it.

I have emailed the host to ask what new horrible change they made to break this.

I also begged them to give me access to PHP 5.2 long enough to upgrade to a version of Drupal that supports PHP 5.3. Upgrading a forum this broken is almost impossible. :(

The problem was first noticed by Jalla on Monday morning March 17. But the problem could've started the day before.

It is not known if anyone tried to start any threads during the day of Sunday March 16, because that day's thread had been previously started on Saturday.

On Monday March 17, Jalla tried several times to start Tuesday's thread, but could not do it. I tried too, and could not do it either.

FYI, I tried starting threads from 4 different browsers (Firefox, IE, Opera, and Chrome) but got same result.

Lucca was able to start a special projects thread on March 14 and I gave a link to his thread.  But we don't know if he still has the ability to start threads or not.

We know that jalla was able to start this Monday thread here that we are communicating upon ... and she started it back on 3/15 -- as you pointed out.

Jalla posted that she was unable to start any more threads when she tried on 3/17.

To my knowledge, Jalla and Lucca are the only two people who have started threads since March 13.  Don't know if anyone else had/has the ability or not.

Hi I am away for the week in hospital and saw this on phone so just quickly accessing computer to comment. Yes movingalong that is correct. I posted the Sunday / Monday thread late 15th March. As normal - nothing different at all. Then on Monday in morning as i said on 17th March unable to post any forums at all. Other members commented same on Monday 17th and I tried again later that night ans atill the same. Hope this helps. I won't be able to log on again until end of week. Best of luck with it guys and thanks for all the work as ever. No one has been able to post since then as far as i can see. Have a good week allxo

Need more info about the NEW THREAD problem (PLEASE READ)

Our Web host made a change to the server on March 13, but says nothing has changed since. I wish we could pinpoint exactly what day the problem started.

Also, I want to verify... Can NO ONE start new threads now? If anyone is still able to start new threads, please tell me - and especially tell me what type of computer and browser you are using.

when i click on the "forums" tab <http://procrastinators-anonymous.org/forum> today, i get "no forums defined"

And when i click in this post on the "Daily Check-ins" link <http://procrastinators-anonymous.org/taxonomy/term/6> under the OP in this thread, i get a page i do not recognize. It seems to be a listing of the posts in Daily Check-ins without a link to create a new post that i'm familiar with. (Altho i have not created a day-starter in months, so maybe it has looked this way for months).

I believe the "no forums" problem is new. It's the cause of the inability to start new topics.

I want to fix these site problems as fast as possible, but I sure wish our Web host could figure out what they did on March 15 to further break the site. I'll write them again.

They updated the OS on March 13, but then why no problems until March 15? Unless they person who told me March 13 was wrong about the date.

I've been emailing with our Web host about how to fix this site's profound technical difficulties - caused by their withdrawal of support for PHP 5.2.

I need to set up a local Web server that runs PHP 5.2, copy this entire site to my local server, do the upgrade locally, then copy it all back to the server. It will be a huge PITA, but it's do-able.

The first thing I need to do is set up the local server. I have an extra hard disk for setting it up. It will take some time, though. I haven't set up a LAMP server before, and copying the site data back and forth will be a bear. I will need a wired connection.

Actually, that plan sounds like it will work. Sounds like a good plan. You host yourself so that you can allow php 5.2.

There may be a period after you copy the site when people's posts will not be saved (cuz you already copied). but we can tolerate that, given the circumstances. Wikipdedia has told me what a LAMP server is. The good thing is there's gobs of good technical forums on linux and apache and the rest to mine for common problems.

I encourage you, support you, and cheer you on, pro, and thank you for your efforts.

I dont have any specific expertise in this area (well i am in perl if you choose that), but if there's something i can do to help, lmk thru email or chat here (on the old site ;)

just need TIME - so backed up

My biggest problem in addressing this is lack of TIME. I'm horrifically backed up due to a collision of problems: MONTHS of internet connection problems, and then getting seriously ill (I'm now participating in a trial for a new drug seeking FDA approval). I've got tax stuff to catch up on, serious work stuff to catch up on (the loss of PHP 5.2 broke my work site as well), and more.

I'm a strong PHP programmer and I've set up PHP/MySQL before. I just need 36 hour days, 10 day weeks, etc.

I'm going to try to fix this site this coming weekend (if I can). I don't know how much time it will take.

Well I certainly improved. I fell asleep after eating around 6 though and woke up around 8. 8:30 I was still hazy and then I played games for 6 hours or so stupidly. It sometimes feels like I get nowhere and I'm slower than others but that means I need to put in more hours.
