Monday, August 18, 2014 Valuing this Moment From The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie
Detachment involves present moment living - living in the here and now. We allow life to happen instead of forcing and trying to control it. We relinquish regrets over the past and fears about the future. We make the most of each day.
This moment, we are right where we need to be, right where we are meant to be.How often we waste our time and energy wishing we were someone else, were doing something else, or were someplace else. We may wish our present circumstances were different. We needlessly confuse ourselves and divert our energy by thinking that our present moment is a mistake. But we are right where we need to be for now. Our feelings, thoughts, circumstances, challenges, and tasks - all of it is on schedule. We spoil the beauty of the present moment by wishing for something else.Come back home to yourself. Come back home to the present moment. We will not change things by escaping or leaving the moment. We will change things by surrendering to and accepting the moment.
Some moments are easier to accept than others.
To trust the process, to trust all of it, without hanging on to the past or peering too far into the future, requires a great deal of faith. Surrender to the moment. If you're feeling angry, get mad. If you're setting a boundary, dive into that. If you're grieving, grieve. Get into it. Step where instinct leads. If you're waiting, wait. If you have a task, throw yourself into the work. Get into the moment; the moment is right. We are where we are, and it is okay. It is right where we're meant to be to get where we're going tomorrow. And that place will be good.It has been planned in love for us.
God, help me let go of my need to be someone other than who I am today. Help me dive fully into the present moment. I will accept and surrender to my present moments - the difficult ones and the easy ones, trusting the whole process. I will stop trying to control the process; instead, I will relax and let myself experience it.
Hi, I am checking in to PA for the first time in months.
It was a whirlwind of moving (twice in a few months) and I am finally in a *normal* home after 2 years of pure hell. Praise God.
I still have a room full of boxes that have yet to be unpacked, but after moving 12 times in 2 years it can all wait. I frankly don't want to look at them right now.
I had a death in the family soon after my move. I am very tired and stressed from literally years of survival mode.
I need rest and want to avoid basically everything. But there are so many things yet to do to turn my life around ... still have the same job but the stress is increasing there and I need to look for a better job with better pay. This is the ongoing procrastination. I am finally in a place of being physically settled but still feeling resistant a little to finding another job and going through yet ONE MORE HUGE CHANGE. UGH. Yet I am not happy where I'm working and haven't been for a long time though it relieved me of being homeless.
I am blessed with the coming gift of a new car yet procrastination looking for one. A family member has got all the info but I'm too tired to deal with it yet I have to in order to take advantage of this amazing gift.
My challenge today is to SIMPLIFY what lies ahead. Not overthink but to break it all down into the most immediate steps:
1. Get info to sell current car: hours, appraisal process, title
2. Read all compiled info on 3 car choices
3. Get info for 3 dealers in different locations: hours, etc.
4. Go to get car appraised
5. Go to dealers to do 3 test drives
6. Coordinate with family to buy
I feel pressured from another family member who is in a hurry but I wasn't up to dealing with all this the past few weeks. I am just going to take it easy ... do what I can in the most simple way and not overthink the future. Trust it will all work out as I go through the steps.
Please do not leave advice or feedback. Thank you. Prayers welcome.
I'm not going to let another friday night slip by not doing what I want to be doing with my life.
Personal survival guide for the day:
I'm going to shoot for six miles. That means i need to take my vitamins. I feel really piissed off. I have something I need to work through about someone at work, via some CBT or angry lettter writing, etc.
I've had a trying (?) time of it this summer and really let my recovery suffer, procrastination-wise at any rate. Still clean and sober otherwise, thank HP, but now that my family crises are done with, inasmuch as a parent and a sister dying can be said to be 'done with', well, I want to get back here and get myself moving in the right (good orderly)direction again.
So, being away for ages from my actual physical home as well as from this virtual one, my place is a mess, and I want to get it into shape again (again??? When was the last time...??), here goes, concentrating on my bedroom for now:
strip bed
clear surfaces
fold clothes and put away or dump in laundry basket
hoover
make bed
lie in it, watch tv :)
I suppose if I do really well I might even mop the floor...
Will be in chatroom for accountability and support.
Glad to be back :) xx

I must remember not to set my expectations so high. I am capable of doing many things in a day. But realistically that's not what happens if I put too much pressure on myself. So ease up on yourself. you have nice things planned this afternoon and weekend. Work, then rest. It's how it works.
Today my one thing is to study and send off the exam. There are other things to do, but not all have to be done today and we'll just see how I get on. Over-packing my to do list doesn't work, so how about just picking one thing? At a time at least.
There are other things to do, but I need just to concentrate on one thing, then look at the next and the next. Focus is what I need more than anything so I don't get overwhelmed.
The mom/tutor in me says: get a good night's rest and eat a good breakfast! My SAT students have really liked my suggestion of oatmeal with banana, PB, and chocolate chips, so I share with you too.
A late startm but not feel too bad about it because I have been in a very reflective and creative mood as well as some procras thrown in for good measure.
Today I have already:
Had a bit of a lie in
Had a good breakfast
meditated
Had a shower
Put washing on
wrote a little on something that inspired me
Today I will:
Write second email after good reception to first.
Go over study stuff and work out what still has to be done
Finish study paper and email over.
Brainstorm GoE X email. Can you do it in 5 sentences?
Getting ready for a big day tomorrow...the fear is creeping in...must keep the faith and walk through today with courage...Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...

10:15 Dear God, what is this procrastination all about? There are so many benefits of completing the task! I deservere the proper recognition for this accomplishment! I can do this! I am capable! I have it in me!

Dear movingalong. Thank you for your lovely kind and compassionate check in regarding my absence, I have had a hard few months healthwise but am getting there slowly . This is reason for no posting but I do check in and see all the wonderful posts here regularly for inspiration and to check how my PA pals are doing.
Movingalong I hope this finds you well. Apologies if my lack of posting caused any concern. You are such a great person and so kind and I wish a million blessings on each of your days always! I will reply to your email tomorrow as going ot bed now. (I never really go into that email address so I need to do so regualrly and apologies if you have been waiting for a reply!- I hope not).
Sending giant hugs to you and everyone, lennon, unstucking, vic, marcelor, jay, thesis, clement, barberino, hamlet, Knitfisher, Tracyla, katia, rising up, dotnow and everyone else I have forgotten as my brain is a sieve!
So good to see your share!!! I think of you off and on as well. Sometimes I make sure I read the starter "Progress not Perfection" with my favorite Day, March 17 and think of you and how you are doing. It was funny when I read Moving's post because it was one of the days I thought of you. Good to know you are still with us in spirit. You will be in my prayers and hope health continues to improve. Take care, (hug) Vic

Dear movingalong. Thank you for your lovely kind and compassionate check in regarding my absence, I have had a hard few months healthwise but am getting there slowly . This is reason for no posting but I do check in and see all the wonderful posts here regularly for inspiration and to check how my PA pals are doing.

I will reply to your email tomorrow as going ot bed now. (I never really go into that email address so I need to do so regualrly and apologies if you have been waiting for a reply!- I hope not).

@jalla
@ Jalla
Dear Jalla,
Here I am hoping for your return to good health and thankful that you still use PA even though you don't post.
I haven't been at PA much myself lately. Partly due to a change in the type of work (working on site seems to make me feel much better about working).
Sending you healing thoughts and also sending out gratitude for the caring and compassion that is here at PA.
Liz
Amen
Prayers from me too -
and to you dear un-stucking
