clement ci - day 280 attempting abstinence, 200 from self

13:05:25 ‹clement› c.s.lewis in Ch 4 of Mere Christianity talks about being saddled with a wretched psychological outfit, which provides corrupt raw materials to our choice-making true self
13:05:49 ‹clement› That fits addiction perfectly. It fits the dopamine theory perfectly. Most people receive reward for doing their daily tasks. I (we?) do not.
13:06:04 ‹clement› so the biological equation presented to the normal person is different from that presented to me.
13:06:19 ‹clement› they require a small moral effort to keep moving and fulfill their commitments.
13:06:47 ‹clement› i require a huge moral effort to compensate for the lack of dopamine providing reward for dong tasks.
13:07:58 ‹clement› this idea, as riddled's did, moves my addiction out of "me" and into my circumstance, which makes it much easier to deal with, when i disown it

"Life is hard, but
we don't have to make it more difficult by neglecting ourselves. There
is no glory in suffering, only suffering. Our pain will not stop when a
rescuer comes, but when we take responsibility for ourselves and stop
our own pain.

Today, I will be my own rescuer. I will stop waiting for someone else to work through my issues and solve my problems for me."
From The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie

KF Check in 16th Aug 08:30am

Happy Friday everyone. Feeling quite anxious about the work still. I have done pretty well the last few days, even though it doesn't feel like enough. I am determined not to let my procras lead me away from work. It's not all pleasant, enjoyable work - but the quicker I do it, the quicker I can move onto something else.

I am early to work because I did not turn my phone on, or use the iPad. Just listened to the radio and ate breakfast. That is what I need to do to get to work at a good hour.

Today I have already:

  • Had breakfast
  • Had a shower
  • Not yet turned my phone on or looked at email

Today I will:

  • Put wash on
  • Hang/dry wash
  • Do WD Work (8 poms) done in 6!
  • Have lunch & a walk
  • Do SD Work (7 poms) done 5/7
  • Stop work at 5.30pm
  • Washup
This week:
  • Mock exam
  • Chase last few docs for WS
  • Draw up accnts for WS
  • Text WS for visit date? (Mon?)
  • Declutter
  • Menu and shop (Sat)

riddled's Friday ToDos

  • some household chores before work & on train (hang up laundry, take glass to recycling container, mend t-shirt)
  • productive workday (better than yesterday, but could still be better)
  • clean stairs (not a joke - still paint spots & 2 cm of dirt + dust on it from renovating, which was weeks ago) (Not finished, but did the 20% that make the 80% difference. I want to continue tomorrow, but if I don't, the neighbours will survive now. Too late in the evening to continue now.)
  • dishes
  • unpack bag, clear table
  • clear desk as far as possible today (the famous stack of papers one should do something about, file away, or throw away) (desk not completely cleaned but worked steadily and got a bunch done)
