Trouble getting started on school work. New to PA. Any ideas?
Tiffany
@tiffany
This is something a lot of us drag our feet with, Tiffany!nAnd we try different ways to deal with it. A couple of things I tend to do are - to break it up into really small chunks, to take it away from my house or usual working environment and get it started in a cafe, or in the park, etc and a third, which I have used most consistently and successfully (tho with many lapses, too) is the pomodoro technique (see pomodoro.com), essentially using a timer for 25 mins work and then 5 mins break, and repeating this for however long. It's worth having a look at the technique in more detail, because there are some good pointers about getting a really clear idea of how long things really take. after a while you start think inning 'ah this is a one pomodoro task, or a five pomodoro task..' And it is especially good for us procrastinators to have that kind of reality check!
Good luck with it
Thank you so much mole
Thank you so much mole for your response. I am starting on 1 pomodoro

Feeling Ok this morning. Crashed a bit yesterday and was feeling quite sad after my happy morning. No matter, today is a new day. I need to find a way of doing the 'other' things. The things that are not work, but are still important. Need to take half hour/hour to do these things. I haven't made a concerted effort, but the 5 min rest feels like it should be a rest, not another task.
I think I might make a little chart for today, with little squares on, a different tower for each of my aversive tasks, and colour one in each time I manage a 5 min stint on them. Aim for 12 bricks by the end of the day (although I doubt it will take that many)
Today I have already:

clement ci - day 167 attempting abstinence, 87 from self
Abstinence from unplanned time.
Abstinence from relying on self.
Perhaps there is a better way - we think so. For we are now on a different basis; the basis of trusting and relying upon God. We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves. We are in the world to play the role He assigns. Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity.
We never apologize to anyone for depending upon our Creator. We can laugh at those who think spirituality the way of weakness. Paradoxically, it is the way of strength. The verdict of the ages is that faith means courage. All men of faith have courage. They trust their God. We never apologize for God. Instead we let Him demonstrate, through us, what He can do. We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear. p68 AA Big Book. http://anonpress.org/bb/Page_68.htm
