Monday 18 March 2013

Today I can start where I am.
Mind clear as water.
Leave guilt behind.
Take a step.

One step is not a little more,
but infinitely more,
than nothing.

courage
serenity
wisdom
faith
hope
keeping on

Thank you to Chickadee for this thread-starter!

I am having a tough time today. I'm sort of upset about some interpersonal issues in lab. But I will put my head down and just work anyhow.

Start IHC

Update notes, clear up papers (made progress on this)
make collection calendar
Check samps
Microburst email
Finish taxes (made a little progress on this)
Email about funding
Draft email to Ginko
Find 30 possible biotechs(made a little progress on this)

RisingUp Check-In 3/18

Thank you movingalong and chickadee! That starter is really helpful esp. today.

I already wrote up my task list on a post-it, so I'll use that for now.

Leave guilt behind, forgive myself for things I couldn't do and the consequences. Show myself forgiveness and compassion.

Need Higher Power today.

Monday Checklist

I haven't done one of these in a while on PA but I still make a daily checklist every week day (and many weekends) on word.

  1. Read through emails.
  2. Let's get through tickets.
    1. Would like some help getting video to work
    2. Well I got one ticket "done"
  3. Let's coordinate our efforts with India. Testlink and a subversion repo
    1. Working on this. It's hard because I want to write a script that converts from xml to csv and I'm not a good coder :D
    2. This is a manual process and it requires that different devices be tested so every single test case has to be written multiple times for different devices... SO SAD
    3. I gave up on trying to code this. It'd be too hard for me. But I did figure out a way to edit with excel :)
  4. Inserting data into db. It's not urgent that I do. I'm doing something very inefficient. But I might as well. I could also just forget about this if it doesn't work or takes more of my time. I guess I forgot. hehe
  5. Then let's do our taxes when we get home.
    1. fuu
  6. Do I have to pay back some loans?
    1. Do I have a reminder for it?
    2. I should call the OSAP loan services and try to cancel the loans
    3. This is a fail :( It's too late in the day to call them now. I'll pay my loan for the month though
  7. I'd like to root my phone
    1. Well it's rooted. This was a waste of time though.
  8. I'd like to watch a video briefly.

riddled's Monday ToDos

I'm home for most of the day today. My plan is to work for at least 7h. Routine household chores don't count. (Repairs do.) I won't make a full to-do list at the start, but will add to it during the day and will also keep track of time.

  • mend clothing
  • write report
  • finish M assignment
  • filing M
  • check: what else must be finished tomorrow
  • filing S

About 3h so far.

Edit Tuesday: I didn't get much further that day because a) I wasted way too much time on household chores (although I'd decided not to) and b) I got tired early (plus didn't feel very well - allergy + beginning cold), and went to bed early.

Adopting Mole's scheme:

Things I did well today yesterday:

  • Uh... well, I did _something_...
  • I checked what was due the next day, and got that stuff done first.
  • Checked back in here today to take stock.

Things I could have done better:

  • Time management: Spend less time on household chores and other low-priority stuff.
  • Work more.
  • Flounder less after the routine stuff is done.

Things I am grateful for:

  • I found out I'm allergic to something I could easily remove from my surroundings, and can easily avoid in the future, and after I did that, the symptoms immediately got better.

clement ci - day 128 attempting abstinence, 48 from self

Abstinence from unplanned time.

  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do impulsively is write something on my todo list.
  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do off plan is recovery, something to maintain my sobriety, when tempted. I have come to believe that it is more important to maintain sobriety than to get things done.

Abstinence from relying on self.

8:21am : It's been 12hrs 02min since i last went off plan.
It's been 3days 11hrs 34mim since i last relied on self. A long stretch, and if i shall never rely on self again as long as i live i would be quite happy with that.

9:11am : it's been 1 min since i last went off plan
It's been 3days 12hrs 24mim since i last relied on self.

9:18am : it's been 1 min since i last went off plan.
It's been 3days 11hrs 41min since i last relied on self.

9:22am : it's been 1 min since i last went off plan.
It's been 3days 11hrs 45min since i last relied on self.

12:28am : it's been 1hr 43min since i last went off plan.
It's been 4days 2hrs 51min since i last relied on self. I started to despair, but i believe i did not fully get there, before God pulled me out of it. Even my relying on God and not self is something God has to do to me. And then i was able to live in the moment of dopamine depletion, and just feel the drag. And i thot to myself "this is what recovery feels like" and it was positive, still yucky, but positive still.

THINGS I DID WELL TODAY

1. thuroly understood backup scenario using TreeSize
2. cleaned up client's backup drives
3. found 50GB wasted space (repeated)
4. developed improved backup strategy
5. installed antivirus
6. found key file in backup for client
7. figured out how to reduce backup time and upgrade server after hours.

THINGS I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER

1. remembered to plan for backup for upcoming server upgrade
2. anticipated that installing MSE which turns on firewall might block access to the server, and prepared office staff or done after hours.
3. turned to God early when feeling burnt out after my day.

THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR

my wife.
my kids. Son's project and our interaction.
My son made me laugh tonight.
My playlist called "Open in case of discouragement" which almost always works, including tonight :D I'm listening to it right now.
