An Irish Prayer
May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

clement ci - day 127 attempting abstinence, 47 from self

Abstinence from unplanned time.

  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do impulsively is write something on my todo list.
  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do off plan is recovery, something to maintain my sobriety, when tempted. I have come to believe that it is more important to maintain sobriety than to get things done.

Abstinence from relying on self.

3:56pm : It's been 15min since i last went off plan.
It's been 2day 19hrs 09mim since i last relied on self. The bible study this morning was on forgiveness. And Andy Stanley read "Put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk. Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you." - Ephesians 4:31-32 And he said that the reason why we are bitter, angry, and resentful is because the other person stole something from us, whether it be our happiness, our childhood, our opportunity. And we feel the other person has a debt that they owe us. And that it is very important for ourselves to define exactly what it is they stole from us and what they owe us.

Forgiveness, then, is letting them out of that debt, even tho they dont deserve it!

I think Christians are helped in this, because they are vividly aware of their own sin, how they've offended God, and how he lets us out of the debt we owe Him, even tho we dont deserve it. Christians believe that God created beings with free will who could chose to love or reject Him. My read of the Bible is that every time we choose to go our own way, instead of his perfect path for our lives, we reject him. If we reject him, we rob him of the relationship he could have with us. And that's the debt we owe him.
