The Serenity Prayer (CoDA version)

'God'

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

The courage to change the things I can

And the wisdom to know the difference

Grant me patience with the changes that take time

Appreciation of all that I have

Tolerance of those with different struggles

And the strength to get up and try again

One day at a time

@gotmusikk impulsivity vs creativity

gotmusikk, i have the same problem with impulsivity and creativity. For most of my life, they have gone hand in hand.

To share my experience, strength, and hope (take what you like, leave the rest) what i'm trying is abstinence from unplanned time, meaning abstinence from impulsivity. So where to fit in creativity?

I've tried this exactly once, so ymmv, but it is pre-scheduling blocks of creative time. That way, they occur when i have time for them, and they are the next right action, not when they're taking away from something else i should be doing at that moment. I feared it would be too stifling and constrained a container to schedule it so, but, at least that one time, it was not. Rather it felt like, finally, i get to be unstructured.

I wish you well with your recovery!

I had never seen this version of the serenity prayer before this was posted a while back by Jack and I really like it. Especially the line about 'the strenght to get up and try again, one day at a time'. Sometimes for me I have to be reminded that  my recovery is about one day at a time, that I am where i am and that is ok. One baby step at a time - thats good enough. Thanks Jack.

gotmusikk's Tuesday

Hello!
I can feel my structural needs changing.  I want to cover some things every day, but I'm wondering if it's better to check in with HP to help me decide what I want to do in any given moment, as an act of self-kindness.  Walking the line between structure and spontanaeity is so hard when you've been compulsively avoiding work tasks, isn't it?

At any rate, Tuesdays are always weird days for me - most of the day spent away from home, so my usual routines don't get done.   SO, here's what I'd like to accomplish today:

Progress, not perfection.
Consistency over emergencies.
Do the thing that feels healthy, not "shouldy" or escapist.

Feed sourdough
Get dressed
Pack for ISM

@lunch:
process inbox - email, physical
write in journal
3:40 - head over to ISM

Tonight:
Wash dishes

Things I did well:

Things I can improve:

3 things I'm grateful for:

re: prayer line "Tolerance of those w/ different struggles", etc

I am offering thanks to this version of the Serenity Prayer,
(the version in today's thread-starter above).
Yes I'm saying "thank-you" to the prayer itself --
-- and all the ideas that it calls forth within me.

Especially the second half:

"Grant me patience with the changes that take time
Appreciation of all that I have
Tolerance of those with different struggles
And the strength to get up and try again
One day at a time"

I have been impatient about my rate of progress,
(or impatient about my seeming lack of progress).
But this prayer shows me that recovery happens in higherpower's time.

I tend to focus on my failures,
and forget to appreciate all the miracles I've experienced.
This prayer shows me that I can alter that perpective.

I have been awkward around those with different "issues" than mine,
but this prayer shows me that I can cultivate loving acceptance.

May higherpower's guidance give each of us
the strength we need to take the next right actions.

Had an interview this morning--it didn't go great, but I learned a lot about how to prepare for future technical interviews. And it means that I've started the internship interview process, which I'm really proud of myself for.

Today I need to do a couple of scary things:
*Meet up with ex-bf
*Talk with TE about results section
*Talk to CT about bf staying over

And some more straightforward tasks:
*Start SMF rep (actually, no, this doesn't make sense to do this week, because I need to focus on my paper)
*Email DP about mtg (will do this soon)
*Email about thesis committee mtg (will do this soon)
*Finish updating resume for millenial, microburst email
*Email B, join awis, email JK
*Finish discussion and email S (working on this now)
*Go to bible study

Now I'm going to start preparing for the talk w/ TE

Journey 8 am

Happy Tuesday!   I had a nice long birthday weekend, had some fun, and got a lot of rest.  Now time to get back to work.  This will be another busy week and also working this weekend.   I am trying something new today, instead of duplicating my todo list multiple places I will use Evernote for my tdl and use this forum for bookending the items on the list.

Now, I'll exercise for 45 minutes then check back.

Update 10 am Exercise done, now I will meditate for 5 minutes and have some breakfast.   Then, check status of maint and start preparing the upgrades for this weekend.

Update noon - checked status of all maint in progress.   Now break then work one hour on preparing for the weekend upgrade, then move on.

Update 1:30  done.  Now work on Project C for 1 hour.   Do high level plan for test, fill in as much as possible of the outline before 3:00 pm then move on to necxt task.

Update 3:45  worked on project C for more like 2 hours and don't feel like I made enough progress, but it's time to move on to Project V.  I'll work on Project V for one hour.

I've just come in from doing something I am not very good at. I enjoy the company and the doing of it, but I get very disheartened by my incompetence and the success of others, so the thread starter is a perfect reminder - no point in getting het up about things that cannot be changed, although not always easy to persuade oneself.
