WOW, so I'm only getting to this at 5:45pm.  SIGH.
For some reason I keep getting derailed!
At least I try to keep showing up.  It will get better. 

Progress, not perfection.
Consistency over emergencies.
Do the thing that feels healthy, not "shouldy" or escapist.

Journey 1 pm and the most important things I've learned here

Work is SO BUSY and in my pre-PA days I would be so overwhelmed that it would be difficult to get anything done, much less everything.  The only way I am dealing with it is through the things I've learned here: 

  • Focus on what you can do today, not what you failed to do yesterday or might do tomorrow
  • When today becomes too overwhelming, focus on what you can do for the next 15 minutes.
  • Break down large tasks into more manageable chunks. 
  • Prioritize - you can't do EVERYTHING, so figure out the important things and do them first.   Let the lower priority things fall off the bottom of the list.
  • Be honest with yourself and others about what you can do and in what period of time.
  • Have some form of accountability to other people - either here at PA, co-workers, friends, mentors, family, anybody who will support you when you need it and kick your a$$ when you need it.
  • Take time to pray or meditate - it really helps

I am sort of overwhelmed today...I have a bunch of different tasks, and I'm not sure what I should focus on.

In particular, I'm working on three different areas: internship search, paper, and RA project, and I'm not sure how to balance them.

OK, well I guess I can do some of each:
For internship search: Send 3 emails, talk to R, come up w/ 20 internship options, look through ~50 job postings to see what kind ofskills are in demand.

For paper: Finish updating refs (was ridiculously slow on this, but made a little progress), clean up notes, email about comm mtg

For RA project: Make more reagents, deal w/ blocks, make step-by-step plans for P/B double stainings and for S8/R8 rep, check on expts, analyze Rara

Personal stuff: Go to MU, call C, call H, clean kitchen, buy bus ticket
