'Pray to God, but continue to row to shore.'Russian, Proverb.

'God is not my arms and legs. It is up to me to do the footwork. Ours is a program of action. The first two steps require reflection and contemplation;the rest call for direct action.'

'For today: God does for me what  I can not do for myself, not what I can do.'

Thanks for starter jalla. reminds me of the story in the bible when Jesus asked the cripple "Do you want to be healed?"The man still had to take up his pallet and walk. Jesus did not carry him into the water. It worked because it was a loving invitationto a broken man to jump into life and grow and change. PA helps me show up and say I want to.

Thanks for being here.

10:15-11:00 write

11-11:15 get ready/put in laundry/find budget and plans

11:15-3:00 meet cabinet lady/lunch

3-3:45 clean

3:45-5:15 meet Paula

5:15-6:00 email

6-8 make/eat dinner/relax

8-9 thank yous

9-10 read/lang

First full day in lab. I'm already a bit late, but this is OK. I can stay late too.

Today I need to keep pushing forward on the references task, which is proving to be really hard.(have made some progress on this)

I need to email about mtg

I need to read about S's research

I need to do PCR clean-up, gel, genotyping PCR, check on expts

clement ci - day 56 attempting abstinence

I like that one:

Pray to God, but keep rowing to shore. -Russian Proverb.

9:51am : off plan.

10:06am : getting back on plan.

11:59am : it's been 5 min since i last went off plan. I was off plan for 1.5 hrs. :-( It's easy for me to collapse in guilt. But what does God want from me? Repentance. I know what i did is wrong, and i pledge to not do it again. And surrender. I pledge to do only God's will for me, and that will be great for everyone i love.

:) ci
:) quiet time
:) pj tasks
:) sort my many, many competing tasks...

2:51pm : it's been 1 min since i last went off plan. hard day. In my email, the Daily Bible Promise was: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11

2:52pm Fri : the way i did task was to not refer to my task list, but just move mentally from 1 imp task to another. This helped me not be overwhelmed by not seeing the whole big list. It was productive. But it was probably not recovery.

Elvira's Wednesday

Happy and organised new year to everyone!

I think the unpacking will take most of the rest of the day!

EleanorBE's Wednesday list - happy new year everyone!

Hi all and happy new year, thanks for starting jalia and thanks for this site, pro, which made a huge difference to my life last year.

At the end of 2012 i could feel some old habits creeping back. I was obliged to put a lot of things off to finish my book - which is now finished! I have to proof the last bit of the bibliography today and then I send it off to the publishers (then it has to go through a bunch of proofing, indexing etc - but it will feel very good to get the draft off). But instead of planning and writing down when I would do the things that /had/ to be put off, I was slipping into my procrastinating ways - pushing things to the back of my mind where they fester and grow and create anxiety. So the new year and new university semester is a good time to get back to the good place this site had got me into a couple of months ago. But it's also a dangerous time for me as I'm really addicted to New Starts and making promises to myself - which I'm often not able to keep. So this year I'm not going to make lots of exciting new resolutions to get bored with later. I just want to get back to the things I do when life's at it's best -  enjoy each day for what it brings, make clear, realistic plans for when things will get done, do those things rather than angst about them, check in here every work day, go back to swimming, more walking, pilates and healthy eating, go back to seeing all the theatre and art things I used to go to before the last push on this book.

Today goes -

Go swimming

Finish checking end of bibliog

Get up all  chapters and make sure all tech basics are ok.

Finish acknowledgments

Put chapters into one document.

SEND BOOK TO PUBLISHERS.

Collect veg.

Decide what other food is needed.

Buy food.

Have a great day everyone.

Junedeadline's check in

This is my first checkin. I signed up for PA in November and unsurprisingly procrastinated about figuring out how to use this and get on it.

I have to get my PhD thesis completed by the end of 2013 and already my username on this seems unrealistic because I dont think I'll be able to do it by June. The real sticking point is just being able to start writing, and once I start to keep  at it.

So for today I'll set up my first CI

13:00-14:00- Meeting

15:30- completion mark 20 exam papers

Welcome June

Well done on the first steps! Smile

You've done what I did the first time I posted a check-in, though, and clicked 'Reply' instead of 'Add new comment'.  'Reply' not only indents your post and keeps it with the previous person's post, but more importantly, stops the other person editing theirs to tick off what they've done.

But the main thing is that you've made a start, which is half the battle, so good for you.

thanks elvira,   I

thanks elvira,

I just realised that I did the same thing today. I'll fix that

Hypatia's check-in

Best wishes to everyone for the new year.  I've had a good break staying with each of my two sisters-in-law in turn and they have been very supportive as I tried to cope with Christmas, what would have been my husband's 63rd birthday, and the first anniversary of his death.  Last year was the worst year of my life, and I've not been much good to man nor beast.

So now I'm going to take things one step at a time, and start to create an ongoing life for myself on my own. It's the second anniversary of starting this job today and I really would like to do more than go through the motions.

  • 1 hour reading e-mails actually got so stuck in I decided to owrk on clearing my mailbox.  nearly there!
  • dictate 1 set of reports

  • read the afternoon's papers

To Hypatia

I was struck by something you said about not having been much good to man nor beast. It so resonated with me. I'm very sorry for your loss. It is great that you have the love & support of family during this difficult time of the year and in your life.

It is very brave of you to take those steps forward and to keep taking them one at a time. Keep it up. Just know that we are also here with you and care about you. I pray that this new year will be one with newfound joys and purpose. God bless you.

Kodos

I'm very sorry to hear that you are struggling with the anniversary of your husband's death. I hope that in 20 years, when I am your age, I will look back at a marriage as loving and meaningful as yours seems to be. And for you, I hope 2013 will be the year of new beginnings. Kodos

Thank you Kodos

Thank you very much for your support.  It really is appreciated

Knitfisher's CI Weds 2nd Jan 08:35am

Happy New Year to you all. I did not enter 2013 with much happiness, but my hope for 2013 is that I can weather the storm that is to come with some grace and some peace. It felt false to celebrate when my mum is so ill, yet I was actutely aware of bringing others down. So I chose not to say anything.

Today I hope to get on with the work that did not happen on Monday, and if not I will not let that derail me so badly as it did then. Bad enough when you let yourself down but really difficult when others do so.

Today I will:

  • At least 10 poms of work for P or others 7/10 done!
  • Unload DW   done in break!
  • Wash up
  • Spend 5 mins in LR, bedroom, kitchen, office
  • Call hospital call again after lunch - they called me back
  • What's for dinner?
  • De-clutter the freecycle box
  • A good lunch
  • Take mum's old medicines to the pharmacy on the way out.
  • Mini shop on way home (milk etc)
  • Be nice to yourself
Didn't finish everything, but did deal with something that came up when I normally would have put it off. With thanks to Elvira and the chatbox.

Finding a way CI

Back again with the New Year, and back to paid work also. Although I have not been posting I still appreciate reading other's posts for inspiration and fellowship.

My thoughts at the moment are that it may not be a great help to me to post here what I intend to do, although I've done that in the past. I usually have a list I'm trying to follow anyway.

Instead I am going to try a different approach and use the daily forum to report my achievements. Hope this doesn't seem too much like boasting, it's really a way of me acknowledging them to myself, and thinking that others here will understand that even small achievements count.

  • On December 31st I returned to paid work and did 2.5 hours, which for me was a good start.
  • I had most of New Year's Day off as it's a public holiday here; spent some time relaxing with my husband including going swimming.
  • Also on New Year's Day I cleaned out the shoe section of my wardrobe, a job I had been avoiding literally for years. Not quite finished, but it's 90% done.
  • I have been going cycling at least every 2 days for exercise in the past week.

Thanks to everyone for being here.:)
