I am not an early eiser. The self -respect which other people enjoy in rising early i feel due to me for getting up at all.

William Gerhardi.

Congratulations on waking up everyone. May your week be filled with achievements, big and small.

Thanks, everybody, for being here. I did get a lot done today, but it was a crap day all around and I came home from work and got into bed with the cat. 45 minutes of that seemed to do the trick, and now I'm going to get back up on the horse and finish the day:

5:45-6:00 shower

6-6:30 make dinner

6:30-7:30 to-dos--books for A, call Rh?, fb messages, squirrel

7:30-8:30 dinner

8:30-9:00 clean/prep for tomorrow

9-10 read, lang

11.19.12 Babarino CI

most of work tasks done. 4 personal tasks tonight.

-exercise class
(done)

-buy envelopes
(done)

-reading

-get ready for yoga am

Thank you all for being here! You are awesome!

7:00 bathrooms!

7:30 bedroom

8:00 dust bowl

re: your check-in post today ...

(speaking *only* for *me*) ...
I would say that the basis of a 12step "program" is
the spiritual* aspects of the Steps.

The tools and plans are supplemental.
They're great!
but they don't last without the foundation.

I used to think that "meetings" were the "program".
I eventually came to realize that meetings & check-ins are "tools" ...
but working and living the steps is the "program".

* (for anyone reading, "Spiritual" can mean different things to different people.
"Spiritual" for atheists can be "wiser philosophy" or "better self".)

thanks movingalong

It is the same for me. I like the idea of foundation.

you mentioned working the steps. The steps all seem different to me.

steps 1-3 seem primarily spiritual.
step 4 seems primarily earthly. It deals with my character flaws.

i dunno. since i'm in step 4 it seems earthly. But we do talk about higher power in step 4. Maybe it's just me. Maybe *I* am earthly, and i'm bringing my earthliness to it.

steps 6-7 are interesting. They dont say "fix myself" do they? I dont think i ever noticed that. They say, "Let God fix me." Isn't that interesting.

The other thing that perplexes me about the steps. Is that they say nothing about Alcohol ( or procrastination ). For example, "Hi, I'm X and it's been Y days since my last drink." That's not in the steps anywhere.

for me, i dont see abstinence from going off-plan in the steps anywhere. But i haven't worked them thru. I probably just can't see it yet. It's still early for me. I have a lot to learn.

re: mentioning addiciton within text of steps

Yup.

In all the 12step programs, the addiction or compulsion is mentioned
ONLY in step one and step twelve.

The rest of the steps are about inner spiritual healing and transformation

Thank you for the thread starter Mole!

I thought I'd be excited to check-in when I first got access, but I was surprised to find myself resisting the idea. I felt rather overwhelmed and ashamed of how much work I'd put off, and I realized I didn't want to commit it to text in a forum that then implied I would have to actually tackle the work. Nonetheless, the work isn't going away and it is never going to be easier than it is now. It still won't be easy, but putting it off won't help. So to help me commit and feel connected while I work, I figure it is time for my first check-in.

I welcome comments and encouragement if anyone has them - private messages or a separate thread would be ideal so that I can edit this one. Best of luck to everyone else in your struggles and victories!

clement ci - day 12 attempting abstinence

10:05 am :

i'm clement and i have and addictive personality, gratefully in recovery. It's been 15 min since i last went off plan ( 6h 10min include sleep ). 24h 22min cumulative off plan last 11 days.

Here are my challenges

  1. pride ( self-worth criteria? )- i have had 11 relatively good days, and i am STRONGLY tempted to believe i am now a different person than i was before. This is akin to someone who has diabetes, and they take their insulin, and see their blood sugar is fine, so they think, "i guess i was never a diabetic in the first place." No, i am better BECAUSE of God's gift to me of this program, this yoke.

I have this drive to be "good enuf" and fear/pain that i'm not. The idea that i might have finally satisfied that worldly, earthly judgement is too tempting and i jump onto it whenever there's a hint of it there. But it is that same desire to pass that judgement, and fear that i wont, that drives the urge to escape and go off task in the first place. It is the disease, in BOTH cases. Rather, i accept god's forgiveness of me, i accept his righteousness of his own that he gives to me and i accept his transformation, improving me, perfecting me, providing for my growth.

  2. trusting the program rather than god - Thinking that somehow checking in, going to meetings, making a schedule/plan is saving me, without the divine intervention of god leading me to these tools, spiritually making me want to do them, and manipulating the effect they have on my life.
  3. overconfidence - very closely related to pride. Now that i'm "no longer" a procrastinator, i've kicked off that label, i load up my schedule with every grandiose thing, as if i was a time management maven.

:) ck wk
:) quiet time

:) MIT prep mtg

:) 3pm plan rest of day

:) plan night.

great quiet time. can't quite capture it here. now plan.

5:15pm :

it's been 2 min since i last went off plan. just for 2 min, tho. Cumulative 24h 24min over 11.5 days.

8:26pm :

went off plan for about 15 min, searching online for something of low importance ( but hi curiosity ). I dont have a good alarm clock that goes off that says, you've spent too much time on this; it's not worth it.

It's been 15 min since i went off plan. Cumulative 24h 39min over 11.5 days.

8:45 pm :

it's been 2 min since i last went off plan. I was discouraged by this one. As a perfectionist, as one who's trying to be good enuf, i feel like a failure when i go off plan. but it's GOOD that i noticed, and GOOD that i'm back here and starting again. God i need help on this.

woops, i went off plan while i was typing. 1st one was for like 1 min. This one i started daydreaming, so like 5 min. Cumulative 24h 45min over 11.5 days. Next task is obvious from the list. so do it, altho i feel resistance.

9:57 pm :

It's been 2 min since i last got off task. same as last time--a legitimate activity taken too far. i'm learning more about myself.

i rly srsly need to plan, cuz i have another mtg at 2pm tmrw that i have to prep for. I need 4 hrs.

Journey 7 am

Happy Monday!   Today is a day for me to refocus on my goals.   I came back from a short vacation with my Mom on Saturday and babysat grandkids yesterday so I'm starting out with an energy deficit.   I have also been eating poorly, and forgetting to take my vitamins and meds.   My habit focus this month is eating at least four full servings of fruits and vegetables and I ignored that all weekend, although I did pretty well last week.

I am taking an unplanned work from home day today because my car is in the shop.  I put it in while on my little trip and expected it to be ready when I got back but it was not.   I am grateful that I can work from home some of the time and I intend to work hard today to be worthy of that perk, regardless of the vacation/holiday mood.

I will now make my todo list, exercise for 30 minutes, and eat a healthy breakfast.  I know my MITs for the day for work and my personal MITs are to have quiet time, take my vitamins and meds, and get back on track with a healthy diet.

Have a productive and enjoyable day everyone.

Best wishes to my fellow procrastinators with your days ahead.

Thank you to Mole for the suggestion about doing one tile at a time for my kitchen floor. Maybe I don't need to break it down quite that far but if I do 1/4 of the floor, I might want to do more. And if I don't, then at least I did 1/4, which is more than I have done for weeks now... :-) Win/win!
