Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
Despite all my best intentions - first weekend in new house, hardly anything got done. Saturday I was away all day as I went to a memorial service for a very dear friend. The serivce was lovely, but I didn't get home till mid evening.
Sunday, I went to church, which I hadn't done for a couple of weeks, but after that apart from a few odds and sods I just opted out. And typically for me fell asleep. About the only thing I did was get the new phone line up and running, and work out why I couldn't access my Open University online discussion group. The house is a mess, and I can't find anything!
To improve my personal integrity and deal with personal life logistics, I will:
Finish clearing the kitchen floor of all objects I wouldn't want my landlord or the water heater repairman to see there, and make progress on cleaning floor grunge and/or things on counters and in the sink
Make a shopping list and do some further food shopping, including bread
Research 8/1 personal email system changes
Put garbage out for morning collection
To maintain or improve my physical and emotional health, I will:
Use the Balancer (forgot)
Attend Qi Gong / Tai Chi class
Aim for 8 hours of sleep in time to skim specs and draft Qs before tomorrow's 9:00 meeting (not even close, sigh)
Take bedtime prescription
To improve my overall time use, I will:
Do ten minute of journal brainstorming about ways I might persuade myself to go to bed earlier.
Postpone recreational computer & internet use and recreational print reading until after the kitchen floor-clearing task is done, plus at least 30 minutes on floor-cleaning and/or dealing with things in the sink (interspersed progress with recreation instead of doing prerequisites first, again, and forgot to time sink and floor work, but got floor basically clear and significantly cleaner and made a bit of sink progress)
Allow the computer to shut itself off at 22:00, if it's on at that time
For EXTRA CREDIT, I may also be glad to:
Review balance mind-map for where I left off in taking notes on The Procrastination Equation, and re-listen or skim library copy to assess whether I want to take further notes before I return it to the library (due tomorrow)
Review balance mind-map notes for info about ways I might motivate myself to go to bed earlier
Do a Burns Mood Log exercise or another recovery exercise
Cook artichokes
Further catch up my cell phone calendar
Research &/or sign up for new neighborhood email list
OK, have been to church and helped out w/ potluck and looked at amp.
Now, I need to work on EA's project:
*Figure out mapping of extra IDs
*Figure out why some entrez IDs are not represented in refflat file
*New stats, email (will do this soon)
*Rough methods section, email
*Email CT
*Section
*Send emails about amp
*Schedule for next week(will do this soon)
At first, I was confused by your post, because I made the false assumption you were telling us all to rest on Sunday. I was going to tell you that P.A. members live all around the world in many different cultures, traditions, and calendar systems.
But then I looked at your prior few posts, and I realized that you've been posting each day your single priority for the day. So you weren't telling anybody what to do. You are simply affirming to yourself what is your own personal choice for the day. That's terrific!
And of course ... P.A. is about recovering from whatever we procrastinate about.
Some of us procrastinate about employed work jobs,
some of us procrastinate about cleaning,
some of us procrastinate about various chores,
some of us procrastinate sending emails or making phonecalls,
some of us procrastinate doing paperwork,
some of us procrastinate paying bills,
some of us procrastinate about school,
some of us procrastinate about caring for our health,
some of us procrastinate about having inspirational (or spiritual) time,
some of us procrastinate about quality time with family and/or pets,
some of us procrastinate about making friends,
some of us procrastinate about buying/eating food,
some of us procrastinate imagining and taking steps towards a vision for our future,
some of us procrastinate having healthy fun, and ....
... some of us procrastinate getting enough rest and renewal.
So yeah, recovery isn't just just about "tasks". It's about having a balanced time plan for our lives, and finding a way to meet these various needs in our lives in a healthy way.
Done:
