First, I am beyond thankful to have found a support group like this. I look forward to growing and improving with you all. I am a single mom of 2 baby boys and am an entrepreneur.

Lefkoe Method & Talking to Monsters

I am a long-time on and off member on this site. I recently used two methods new to me to address decades-old issues of procrastination. I have tried many, many strategies over the years. While it has only been about 10 days since I tried these things, the results have been so dramatic that I felt I had to post about them here.

My goose is just cooked if I can't find help.

In a lot of pain today. I've likely blown a wonderful job opportunity, one my family really needed, by going off on another cycle of crippling, extreme procrastination and perfectionism. Of responding to intense fear of criticism — of being judged lacking, in terms of my professional abilities — by swinging between (a) extreme avoidance of the trial project I was hired to do and (b) doing the work, but in extreme perfectionism.

How to find a therapist / psychologist who understands procrastination

Hi all - new here, probably should have joined years ago but ... well, you know the punchline.

I've been reading Burka & Yuen, "Procrastination - Why you do it and what to do about it".  Much of it rings true, and I see some hope for the first time in a long time, but I'd like to find a therapist to go through some of my issues with.  Unfortunately, "procrastination" is not one of the areas of focus that's listed on anyone's bio.  Any thoughts or recommendations on how to find someone?  (I'm in NJ).I

This is something that has helped me out tremendously

Make out a list of concrete long and short term goals with deadlines. While you are going about your day ask yourself these questions:

1. Does this action help me progress toward one of my short term or long term goals?

 From a friend:

Daily taskmaster calls?

Hi everyone-

So I'm on the hunt to find someone--and pay someone--to call me daily M-F to check-in with me and make me review my "to do" list...then check-in later in the afternoon, to make sure I'm staying on task.

I don't need a "coach" per se, as I know what I need to do. I just need someone to nudge me to do it.

Does anyone have suggestions or resources?

hiring an assistant to help with backlog

The "getting up early" idea hasn't been working because I've been having problems sleeping. I've been waking up at night, unable to get back to sleep until just before I'm supposed to get up.

I simply must handle my back accounting and file my back tax returns. So I'm going to try something else - and keep trying new things until I'm able to solve the problem.

Does Seeing a Psychiatrist Help? (Need advice)

Hi guys,

I've recently found the opportunity to go meet with a psychiatrist. It's something that I've been wanting to a do for a while, because I feel that my procrastination springs from a deeper issue that I want to deal with. What I'd like to know before I meet him is whether any of you who've been to a psychiatrist have felt any improvement because of it? My first appointment is this Sunday.
Looking forward to reading your feedback.

Discussion: Definition of our condition

It seems that most of us are experiencing similar situations where we see a doctor and our specific symptoms don't seem to fit any condition in our doctor's manual so we're inserted in there with GAD and OCD. However, seems to have nailed it as a separate condition.

Can we get a discussion going on defining exactly what condition we have? Let's discuss symptoms and theories as to what is causing these symptoms.

How are people finding relief? Is medication the definite answer or are people getting help solely with talk therapy?

Anyone else taking Lexapro?

Hi all,

I've started taking Lexapro for winter depression.  I had a couple of weeks of side effects -- it did weird things to my appetite, I felt a little wuzzy, & had some headaches.  But that cleared up after about 2 weeks.

How do I find a dissertation coach?

Hi Everyone,

Julie posted about finally finishing her dissertation with the help of a dissertation coach.  Ah, the power of 12-step groups!  I would probably never have thought of that.

I think that really might help me.

Can Julie or anyone else give me advice on how to find a good, reputable dissertation coach?

Thanks much,

CBT Cognative behavioural therapy

I know what this is from a theoretical point of view.

I am seeing a psychologist next Wed to work on some of my procrastination issues.

Has anyone experience of this technique, particularly as regards dealing with procrastination?

Would welcome anyone's experience strength and hope in this.

Anti-procrastination coach?

I'm wondering if anyone has worked with an anti-procrastination coach? If so, did you find it helpful? If not, why not?

Has anyone here ever had effective therapy for procrastination? I've taken hypnotherapy twice to try and sort out my habit of staying up wasting time until I'm dog tired, then getting up later and later.

The first time, it worked (I suspect because I used it as a totem of change exactly at the same time as I decided within myself to stop procrastinating). The second time, with a different therapist, it didn't work, quite possibly because that time, maybe because of the success of the first experiment, I expected it to work with no effort from me, like a magic pill.
