clement ci - day 223 attempting abstinence, 143 from self

I like that graphic of hope. bookend 11:48am. hope_glass_candle 11:53 = 5min

Abstinence from unplanned time.

  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do impulsively is write something on my todo list.
  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do off plan is recovery, something to maintain my sobriety, when tempted. I have come to believe that it is more important to maintain sobriety than to get things done.

Abstinence from relying on self. AA Big Book says to rely on God. Quoted in my bookmarks : scroll down to "AA Big Book on fears : relying on God not self-reliance:"

  • I have come to believe that it is more important to maintain sobriety of relying on God than to get things done.
    • "15 Points" point 5 says:
      5. Develop and rehearse a daily plan of thinking and acting by which you will live that day relying on God, regardless of what may upset you or how hard the old urge to rely on self may hit you.

      My Plan is this:

      1. read "15 Points"
      2. Meditate for 5 min on the attributes of God

Thanks Jalla for starter, it was exactly what I needed to see. Feeling so"battlerworn" fighting for legal issues, and other issues. Hope there is always hope. and right now need acceptance.

@ Vic

Dear Vic. I am wishing a speedy resolution as easily as possible.  iwill be thinking of you and sending solidarity hugs through cyberspace your way. hang in there . You are doing a brilliant job managing so much. Battleworn is a good word to describle all the ongoing concerted effort you are putting in. For me when im feeling that i have to just hold on ( literally!) and remember dawn is coming.I always get so much from your posts. They have helped me alot. I hope you have a good weekend and take extra good care of yourself. Hugs! xo

KF CI Fri 21st June

Update 3pm.

So I made the dinner and put it on. I made myself lunch (I was really hungry I think and hadn't realised. I feel so much better now) I made a great start on the menu and watched a TED talk while I cooked and ate. Now all I have to do is spend 10 mins finishing the menu and writing the shopping list and I can go shopping. I plan to do this at about 4.30pm

That gives me 3 poms to do some work. I can acheive a lot in that time, if I allow myself to.

1.30 pm

Complete disaster of a morning. The only good thing I have done is gone for a run. The rest was reading forum posts (elsewhere) replying to them. Playing a game. Chatting with people on FB.

And now it's lunchtime and I need to eat and I've done no work. ANd I've done only 3 hours chargeable work in the previous 2 days. I'm so ashamed of myself.

But my insight is better now. So my instinct is to try and get work done before lunch. But I'm already hungry and I need to put the dinner in the slow cooker soon anyway. SO rather than chop and change, I will do the slow cooker meal, eat lunch, do the shopping list etc THEN get some work done. That way I don't have to change tasks twice which increases the risk of further proscrastination. Then once I have done a couple of hours work, I will go shopping so that my DH doesn't have to think about it this weekend.

I must be kind to myself, what other option is there? Hating myself is not going to improve this situation is it? I just wish my automatic thoughts could know that. I am giving myself a hard time right now.

The daystarter reminds me...
Warning: The rest of this post is just my personal soapbox speech about ecological tealights! It might distract you! (Then again, it might also be useful.)

I've recently changed from normal tealights (petrol products with disposable aluminium cup) to the more ecological variant: reusable steel cup, tealights sold without cup and made from plant matter. (I've tried reusable glass cups before - they are easier to find - but I'm always afraid they'll get too hot when the candle burns down, and crack one day.) If anyone here intends to make the same change and lives in or near Germany: I got the steel cup from an online shop... uh, shouldn't advertise here, but the name contains the words "bio" and "candela". Just telling this because the steel cups were really hard to find. (But just keeping a bunch of the aluminium cups and reusing them with ecological candles will do for a while, too.) Ecological tealights (plant wax, sold without cup), on the other hand, can be found in most organic shops nowadays. As far as I've read, they are also healthier (= pollute the air in your room less).
If more people use them (or just use a Thermos bottle...), there will be more reason for hope! Smile

Also, interestingly, the German Wikipedia article about tealights offers advice on how to better use up the last drops of wax of your tealights by slanting the cup slightly at the end. (The English article doesn't.) This makes reusable cups easier to refill and one-way cups cleaner for recycling.

If anyone got REALLY interested now and wants an English translation of the wikipedia and/or online shop texts, I might assign that as next week's homework to my math/English coaching pupil... Tongue out
