So grateful for today's starter. Thank you Jalla, that is oneofmy top3slogans, and I soooooooooooooooooooooo needed to se it today.

"Acceptance does not mean we're giving our
approval. It does not mean surrendering to the will and plans of
another. It does not mean commitment. It is not forever. It is for the
present moment. Acceptance does not make things harder; it makes things
easier. Acceptance does not mean we accept abuse or mistreatment; it
does not mean we forego boundaries, our hopes, dreams, desires, wants,
or ourselves. It means we accept
what is and who we are at the moment, so we are free to change and
grow.

Acceptance and surrender move us forward on this journey. Force does not work.

Acceptance and surrender - two concepts that hurt the most before we do them.

Today, I will
practice accepting my present circumstances and myself. I will begin to
watch and trust the magic that acceptance can bring into my life and
recovery"

LizzieT's Practice Starting and Stopping Wednesday

The idea behind "practicing starting and stopping" is that starting and stopping are my two biggest obstacles, so if I see "practice" as doing in this moment what I would like to be able to continue doing, by deliberately stopping one thing and starting another as part of a practice, I can improve my starting/stopping skills and habits, but I don't have to look beyond the practice of this present moment, so it is not overwhelming.

So far today, I wrote a check, took care of tax documents, and logged on here.  I'm doing well. Today I must:

Finish a draft of a paper

Work out

Drop by the CSA and pick up my daughter from school

Talk to coach

Do school work

Check out school work/paying work schedule for this week and next

Move info to calendar.

Rough plan:

Get dressed in workout clothes√

Go for a short run (with dog?) and drop check in mail on the way.√

Upon return,  finish paper, start other schoolwork if there is time

2:20 Lv house, go by CSA, pick up kid, back by 4:10

4:30, talk to coach

5:30 take stock, make plan for evening.

clement ci - day 144 attempting abstinence, 64 from self

Abstinence from unplanned time.

  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do impulsively is write something on my todo list.
  • The one thing, the only thing, i can do off plan is recovery, something to maintain my sobriety, when tempted. I have come to believe that it is more important to maintain sobriety than to get things done.

Abstinence from relying on self.

We reviewed our fears thoroughly. We put them on paper, even though we had no resentment in connection with them. We asked ourselves why we had them. Wasn't it because self-reliance failed us? Self-reliance was good as far as it went, but it didn't go far enough. Some of us once had great self-confidence, but it didn't fully solve the fear problem, or any other. When it made us cocky, it was worse.

Perhaps there is a better way - we think so. For we are now on a different basis; the basis of trusting and relying upon God. We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves. We are in the world to play the role He assigns. Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity.

We never apologize to anyone for depending upon our Creator. We can laugh at those who think spirituality the way of weakness. Paradoxically, it is the way of strength. The verdict of the ages is that faith means courage. All men of faith have courage. They trust their God. We never apologize for God. Instead we let Him demonstrate, through us, what He can do. We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear. p68 AA Big Book.
