“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.”

~Nelson Mandela

I think I might have used that one before! But it's helping me right now.

clement ci - day 63 attempting abstinence

9:33pm : it's been 33 min since i last went off plan. Today i was binging on my MIT ( Most Important Task ). Yes, that so resembles productivity that it takes Wisdom to know the difference. But i was not CHOOSING to work on my MIT, i was obsessively, impulsively working on it. This has nothing to do with intensity or focus, but rather freedom / choice vs bondage / slavery.

:) ci
:) quiet time

12:05am : wow it's been 2.5 hrs since i last checked in. I did read TWO introductions to Ephesians, and they WERE interesting. I should have read 1 today 1 tomorrow. But i did healthily put of reading of Ephesis itself til tomorrow, so that's progress.

12:19am : stuck. prayed. felt trust in god. Got desire to surf wildly. Had strength and wisdom to read "15 points for an alcoholic to consider when confronted with the urge to take a drink" Posted that in chat. Came here to post, then urge to surf came back as i was writing this. But i shall post:

Sobriety, the magnificant obsession,
is the most important thing in your life, without exception. You my believe your job, or your home life, or one of many other things come first. But consider if you do not get sober, and stay sober, chances are you won't have a job, a family sanity or even life. If you are convinced that everything depends on your sobriety, you have just so much more chance of getting sober and staying sober. If you put other things first you are only hurting your chances.

That is so helpful to me.

Another, similar concept that is very important to me. Everything depends on my surrender of my life to God. I lose nothing. I gain everything. I can give up my need to be impulsive, turn my back on that part of myself. And i gain a life of serving God, doing his will.

It's a very weird and sad time for us at the moment. Heartbroken that Mum will be leaving us so young, but also slightly relieved that her suffering of the last 2 years, and especially of the last few months and weeks, will be over finally.

gotmusikk's Thursday

Quite a late check-in today, but with the attitude that every moment is a new moment, I know I can get things done!

Progress, not perfection.
Consistency over emergencies.
Do the thing that feels healthy, not "shouldy" or escapist.

Complete 1 cycle of 15 minutes each of:
-- dishes
-- clean
-- back exercise/practice
-- massage

Appointments:
4:30 DF
6:30 Bauman
7:00 RUN

If there’s time after I complete what’s listed above, I will select 2 activities and cycle them in 15 minute bursts.

Things I did well today:
-- I was down earlier today because I slept late and missed an appointment.  But, I remembered how important it is to look for the positive, so I didn't stay down for long.

Things I can improve on:
-- I can figure out why I sleep for 11 hours every night when left to my own devices.  It seems like a lot... I don't want to deprive myself of sleep, but is sleeping this much healthy?  This has been an issue for long enough now that I know I want to resolve it.  It's a bit of a bummer cuz I wish I didn't need that much sleep, so I have more time to get stuff done.

3 things I’m grateful for:
1)  Cozy clothing
2)  Books
3)  My body being able to run

Journey 9 am

Back in the office today, leaving a bit early so I can go tonight to check on my daughter who has that horrid flu that is going around.

I won't post todo list here today and check it off, since I'm in the office, but I will go now to get a cup of tea, make todo list and be ready for 9:30 meeting.  I have two meetings this morning, I will then work on Project M for a couple of hours and spend a couple of hours this afternoon preparing for this weekend's install.  I'll check back if I get stuck.

Have and productive and enjoyable day everyone!

Day 1 at PA! 10 Jan to dos

Hello all,

Gosh you all seem to have a lot to do - and knitfisher sounds like you have an awful lot to deal with, I'm not sure how I'd get anything done when going through that.. but I guess keeping busy is important, and there are things that can't be put off unfortunately.. and so I begin - today rather than avoiding what I have to do (and therefore not being able to fully enjoy anything else I'm doing! - very common) I aim to have some sense of achievement at the end of the day. I'm sorry if I'm writing too much here - I think perhaps I should just be writing a list!? I'm all for words of encouragement throughout the day - or just at the end of the day and I'm not 100% certain if this is the right thread for this? Anyway sorry don't want to stop anyone from getting on with what they need to do!!

So here goes:

I have a big animation project that I've been delaying and could screw up if i don't get on with it. As it's been laying dormant for a while today I revisit it and revise what I need to do, prioritise and get on with it. That's quite vague but once I've done that I can list the steps I guess.

Hoping to put in a few hours, so here I go! Good luck everyone. Dotty

Welcome Dotty

... and good luck with your task!  What is an animation project? It sounds very creative. Are you making a film? If it is a big project that will take some time to complete you could make an entry in the 'special projects' part of the forum, if you preferred. Not that you cant write here ... just if you wanted to keep all your thoughts about that one project together in the same place.

All the best,

Hooch

thanks Hooch

Hi Hooch!

Thanks so much. I'm already feeling really touched by the kindness here. It feels really good! My project is drawing cartoony images / text then scanning in and using animation software to make the images move. I have to do 4 x 1 minute ones and if I keep them simple-ish it could be quicker so I'm trying to do that! Also have to write scripts and record voiceovers and maybe music!! So erm yes quite a lot really!

I'll check out the special projects bit that sounds perfect for this! As this is my no 1 priority right now, it's a big un... and I won't be happy if I screw up and don't progress!!!

I do feel a bit like I'm putting everything else on hold for it, which I think is actually part of my procrastination cycle!! but I think that will change once I've made more progress coz you need balance in life right! And then I'll have plenty of other stuff to post in this section - de-cluttering exercising etc etc!!

Thankyou!

Dotty

Knitfisher's CI Thurs 10th Jan 09:15am

I am already so tired. Had about 5 hours sleep with a 2 ish hour break in the middle. My mum is very very ill and I have been warned that she is not long to be with us. She has been in a lot of pain that they are struggling to control with higher and higher doses of pain medication. They are going to try a pump one which controls pain but also depresses breathing so there's a risk that might cause other problems.

I know I should be with her the whole time, but even now my procrastination means that I have several things that I need to get done, including two tax returns by the end of the month including my own. Besides, I'm not sure I will do any good being camped out because she doesn't seem to rest when someone she knows is there. I plan to go after lunch which is when visiting starts anyway. I will call the nurses in a bit to find out how she is. She was more settled when I called this morning, and finally not in pain even without the pump. A blessing at least.
