Reading for Day -- Inner Tigers

What we fear facing and dealing with is often inside. We may transfer our fear and irritation to external circumstances and the people around us, when what we need to do is look inside. Usually, we are our own worst enemy.

Our fears go back to a time when we were very young and relatively helpless. We may still be afraid of rejection, of being inferior, of being hurt with no one to take care of us. We may have an irrational fear of economic insecurity, which comes from a time when we were aware of financial problems but were too young to understand them.

Whether our inner tigers are real or made out of paper, we need to face them instead of eating to appease them. As we recover from compulsive procrastination, many of the fears, which we had tried to bury with procrastination, come to consciousness. With the Power greater than ourselves, we are able to tame the inner tigers.

Secure in Your care, may I not fear self-discovery.

A little late today...this is getting to be a bad patten. Earlier than yesterday though.

I have a lot to do this week, but I am going to make a short list that mixes "hard" and "easy" tasks, and work steadily.

Specifically, a list of tasks for today is:
Finish cleaning bench
Check on expts
Do c.m, start dig. (don't think this is going to happen today)
Take samples out of fixative
Figure out genotyping protocol (couldn't find, so I emailed about this and expect to have this by the end of the week)
Write up probe design/update wiki
Get a draft of intro (it's a pretty cruddy draft, but I have decent revisions for some)
List books
Do 1 hr work on lit.

"It’s been shown in studies that ADD and ADHD kids respond much better to
positive reinforcement than to criticism, so try to play to their
strengths and catch them being good and remark on it whenever possible."by Dr. Robert Myers, Child Psychologist

Positive Reinforcement

Why just ADD/ADHD. I think it applies to every human being (and even to some animals). Smile

Re: Positive Reinforcement

Roab, generally it is recovery etiquette to not crosstalk (in this case, questioning) on others' personal posts that might apply to them (as in, some of us have ADD/ADHD, so that's who the post applies to). Thanks.

(no worries)

ok to "crosstalk" on my posts- I think in pa we do not crosstalk if that is what a person requests.

For non adhd, concept is universal, as Martha Beck writes:

"But," you may be
thinking, "if I accept everything as is, I'll lose my motivation." Oh,
really? Have you ever totally accepted a baby or puppy? What motivated
you to play with it? Have you ever fallen in love, totally accepting
someone who totally accepted you? What motivated you to spend time
together? The answer, my friend, is love. And nothing in the world is as
energizing.

I love that quote, thanks! Appropriate for me lately...

Today I just need to pray that my HP will pull me out from under. I'd like to feel hopeful instead of depressed. God give me energy and courage to do all these things to get out of this situation. Amen.

Finding a way CI

Back from holiday, had a 'settling in' day yesterday so I am all unpacked and up to date with washing etc, have read some of my emails and done a couple of work tasks.

Now for the serious stuff today:

prepare for Thursday posting now at 12.40 am; finally finished this, but really not good to be finishing so late as it is for an important job tomorrow (now today) with a 6 am start, so I will probably be tired all day.
