Journey 11:30 & CO

*whew* busy morning.   I went to the gym, had to stop by the grocery store for a few things because I didn't have time over the weekend.   Had an early meeting and some questions from a coworker to take care of first thing.   Followed up on the meeting with someone in another department who does not seem to share our priorities :), and finally got around to making todo list.   I am hungry now and I am going to eat something healthy before I start snacking on unhealthy stuff.   After lunch I will post my tdl for the afternoon.  I am a bit stressed out and overwhelmed by several new projects starting at once, but I'll prioritize and do my best, instead of finding distractions.

Update 1 pm

  • healthy lunch
  • count calories
  • Review plan for Project D
  • Project D meeting
  • Project O - work on combine
  • Project M - review status and plan next action
  • Project T - read
  • Goals review/ April plan
  • Review one more SH
  • dinner
  • dishes - started
  • 1 load laundry
  • fuze
  • reschedule dentist
  • pick up car

Red items must be done today.  There, it doesn't seem so bad now that it's planned.

Checkout 8 pm.: Not the best day ever but I did get the MITs done.   I was distracted in the afternoon and spent some time chatting with an online friend which deteriorated into wasting a couple hours online.   I finally got back to work, then came back after dinner and finished up the last MIT, but I didn't get much else done.   I will still consider this a successful day because I did manage to eke out those MITs and I have had many days in my sordid past when I did not get ANYTHING done.    So, I am declaring victory and moving on.   See you tomorrow!

Finding a way CI

Tuesday 11.10 am

So far today is not going as well as yesterday. Yesterday I did 3 hours billable work, attended a local meeting that is important for networking but a bit scary, and got a few other smaller tasks done. I am reminding myself of this, as today I have slept in after a late night and apart from shower, breakfast etc not done much except read my emails.

I can see that part of what I am struggling with at the moment is setting priorities. Unless there is something urgent, I can't easily work this out. Yet once I have numbered the things on my list I feel a certain relief and it's easier to actually do the first task. Maybe it's perfectionism at work again - the way I order tasks won't always be the best way - but doing something is still better than doing nothing.

Thanks for listening if you have got this far! Back to the list and maybe the chat box.

Thank you all for being here.

re: priorities

Me too.   Sometimes I think I spend TOO much time planning but I know that once I have a plan, and a prioritized list, I can go ahead and start checking off items.  I used to second guess my prorities and agonize over which item was most important, but I don't worry about it so much any more - I just choose the order of the tasks and then stick with it, unless something comes up that changes my plan.

"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter.  Try again.  Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett

me3: prioritIzed task list

that is the EXACT problem that i came her for right now. I have 3 urgent things, and i can't seem to just pick an order. "Normal" people would just do them 1,2,3 but i feel so guity about 2 & 3 i can't just let myself do 1. So i do nothing. Makes no sense! But somehow...

I can feel anxiety rising about letting go (even temporarily) of 2 & 3 so i'm gonna have to go to HP in prayer and try to get some relief.

Thanks journey and clement!

Always good to hear thoughts and experiences of other fellow travellors.

I can certainly relate to your situation, Clement, hope you have found some peaceful resolution by now.

Sometimes I really have to keep reminding myself that I can only do one thing at a time. And as a procrastinator, I still always have that backlog of tasks to feel guilt about. Have to let go of that somehow, and give myself recognition for what I do achieve.
