Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
Did pretty well with work yesterday, but didn't leave work at the
desired time, instead working late again. So that remains a goal, to
leave at a reasonable time that permits good progress at work but also
allows for trying to build a life away from work.
Today I am
feeling stuck because I have a daunting case to review and summarize in a
meaningful (I hope) report. It's complicated, and I feel quite anxious
about it. However, I can't keep putting it off, nor can I sit trying to
avoid it. I need to get it behind me so I can tackle other tasks. I have
already taken an early lunch, so there should be a good chunk of time to wrok on this. (Glancing at the Outlook calendar, I also just realized I missed a meeting today because I was busy stressing in my office over this. Oh, well, have to let it go.)
I will try to break
it into blocks, with interspersed "normal" cases to help keep stress
down and so I can feel that some progress is being made into today's
work and yesterday's leftovers. This case is blocking the line and
preventing positive flow.
Goal 1: "Warm up" with a leftover case from yesterday that seems straightforward
Goal 2: Spend 30 minutes on tough case
Goal 3: Do another "mellow" case
Goal 4: Spend another 30 minutes on tough case. Hopefully that will get it to a point where I can at least write something preliminary and request whatever additional information I will need to complete it another day. If not, continue to alternate "mellow" cases with this complex one until I reach that reasonable stopping point.
Goal 5: Continue working in 30 minute increments, with hourly breaks to get up and move around.
Goal 6: Break for early dinner, since lunch was quite early.
Goal 7: Continue after dinner until 7:30 PM.
Goal 8: Organize from 7:30 to 8 PM
Goal 9: Leave at 8 PM
I am also printing this out so I don't lose sight of the plan.
I am feeling a trifle desperate today, as I need to send a sizable check
to the tax collector and I have no money whatsoever. I've been calling
and emailng those who owe me, so far without tangible result. Oh, well.
It could be worse. Today I meet with my life and business coach. Maybe
he'll have ideas. Meanwhile...
Working from home again today, which is nice. I did ok working from home yesterday, hope to do even better today. I was somewhat distracted yesterday as I haven't been working from home much lately and I've forgotten the tricks to staying focused.
I have taken a nice long walk/jog in the park and saw many wild animals this morning; lots of rabbits, a heron, and a couple of deer. I have several meetings/conference calls today and I'm actually on the first one now. Back with todo list for today.
Update 11:30 I have my todo list and I have a lot that really needs to get done today, as well as two more meetings. I have completed 1 of 13 MITs (two of those are conference calls and I can do some multi-tasking during those meetings)
Update 12:15 2 of 13 completed and a long way to go.
12:40 4 of 13 completed
1:30 #5 completed
2:30 #6 completed
3:30 9 of 13 completed . . . I might make it lol
5:00 11 of 13 completed - I'll work on #12 for the next hour, then make dinner, #13 is about planning father's day for this weekend so I will do that tonight after dinner.
No lower priority work will get done today but I didn't expect it to - I'll happy I made it through the MITS!
