Reading for the day (which I can relate to a great deal especially since I've been unaware of it for so long):
People Pleasing
If we are too intent on pleasing others, we may lose ourselves. All of us
want and need approval from other people, but sometimes we work too hard
for external admiration and not hard enough for our own self-regard. If
we spend all of our time and energy trying to please others, we never
find out who we are and what pleases us.
When we were procrastinating and felt guilty about that, we may have thought that
we needed to do what others wanted us to do in order to somehow make up
for procrastinating. If we didn't show up on time or turn in our work on time, we could at least be
pleasing in other ways!
People pleasing, however, is not confined to those who are procrastinating. Many
people try to find their self-worth and reason for existence in the
impression they think they are making on the outside world. It is an
easy trap for all of us to fall into.
When we find our center in the life of the Spirit, we become less concerned
about pleasing others. As we grow emotionally and spiritually, we begin
to discover our giant Self. Through this program, we can find out who we
are and what is pleasing to the best that is in us.
Tired today. Also had the breakfast of champions. Actually, a variant, the "retro" breakfast of champions: Tab and aspirin. Variety is the spice of life.
Still no progress on leaving work earlier. Was here until after 11 PM last night. Was really dragging this morning, and got here at 9:15 AM. On the bright side, I made some major inroads yesterday, in 15 minute increments, into what was becoming a rapidly growing pile of cases.
So far today haven't gotten any traction. Took a half hearted look at the only new case I have so far today. There are a number of backed up things to keep me busy. So, here is the plan.
Goal 1: No more non-work internet until 6 PM.
Goal 2: Continue with the 15 minute "touches" as I try to whittle down the pile a few steps at a time.
Goal 3: Around 3 PM, switch focus from more current stuff to one of the 3 very old cases still hanging around my neck like millstones. Need to spend about 2 hours trying to make some headway with one or more. These have the potential to sink me, especially one that the customer has already called about twice. Don't want the third call to be to my supervisor, or worse, to someone higher up the pecking order. Can't afford that.
Goal 4: Have to keep saying in it in hopes it will stick: leave work at 8 PM.
Yes, refreshing Tab takes me back to my college days, sitting in the student center, procrastinating about going to the library to study. Hmmm...maybe things haven't changed so much after all...
Sending prayers to (fudo_shin). Please post later if you can!
Missed yesterday on account of had to run out after class, didn't get home until 5, and then decided to veg all night! I *should* have done schoolwork, but now I feel so refreshed, it is wonderful. I was feeling serious burnout all week.
Things to do today- -Vitamins & #1 #2 #3 #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 #7 #8 #9

I called in sick today but I'm going to work 3-4 hours to make up for leaving early yesterday. I figure it will even out to 1 day sick pay.
I slept late, just getting up in time for a 9:30 meeting. I'm going to have 4change's breakfast of champions (advil and diet coke lol) and make a SHORT todo list. I have to work this weekend and it will be kind of intense so I want to be much better by then. At least it is in the daytime, and not a midnight thing.
I'll check back when my todo list is made, then I'm going to shower and get dressed and rest for an hour or so. I have another meeting this afternoon at 2:30 and after that meeing I will call it a day for work, and make a nice healthy dinner and more homemade bread as tuesday's bread was a flop! I haven't used the bread machine in a long time so I don't know if it is failing or if it's me haha. We were able eat some of it but the middle was doughy. It was really good though!
Update 1 pm: I'm cleaned up and dressed and I've done some small admin type things for work. I'm going to do my top MIT now then take another rest break. I have three things I want to get done today for work in addition to the 2:30 meeting so I want to be finished by the time that meeting begins. Then it's time for rest and recuperation.
Update 1:15 MIT #1 complete
Update 2:30 MIT #2 complete and also attended the meeting which was at 2:00 not 2:30 as I had thought. I'm going to go put the bread in the bread machine then I'll do MIT #3.
Update 4:00 pm Bread in machine, MIT #3 done and I'm setting myself to 'away' status at work. Now, rest and get over this stupid cold.
Update 5:15 The test this weekend has been postponed yay! I have the weekend off

Did okay yesterday, checking off nearly everything on my task list. I'm still a little mystified by why things aren't going better when I have been so much improved with regard to procrastination for the last year, since beginning to come here. I guess life is complex, and I created a pretty big hole for myself by screwing up. And, to be honest, some things have improved, while others at least haven't gotten worse. I suppose the thing to do is to keep trying, and work to refine out inefficiency and inappropriate behavior that's not helping me to solve my problems. "One more try" is a phrase that has preceded some nearly miraculous turnarounds at previous points in my life. Here goes today's...
My day is nearly over, a mixed bag like so many. I did the most scary thing on my list, so pleased I braved it, even if it didn't go quite as I would have liked.
Some other things did not get done, and must be done now when I would rather be in bed.
Would like to remember next time that my procrastination often loses me sleep that I really need.
Thanks to you all for this forum. It gives me the freedom to be myself, without pretence, which has helped me accept myself, and lose some of the crippling guilt about procrastination that I was carrying. Still on the journey of recovery, but looking back I can see change.
Feeling so much better today. Heard a CLA speaker speak on "rest". After I allowed myself some "down time", I was so much better in all ways.
Today look at my calender, check deadlines. I never knew how much fear was associated with procrastination. Continue to use tools. Keep in mind that I am not in a race, actually I am living on borrowed time which I promised to give back. All is well.
Woke today feeling stressed and that I have so much to do and I don't even know what it is.
