Stayed up way too late last night (4am?) doing nothing... Should have just gone to bed, but I felt too guilty about not having gotten anything done...so i stayed up, and kept telling myself I'd get work done before bed. Nope. Didn't happen. Feeling the consequences of that today... Overslept, was an hour late for my morning class, and can feel myself fading tonight. Too bad I have lots to do. Ate dinner, "relaxed" (i hate that i feel like i need to relax before getting to work... its really just a sneaky procrastination spiral!), and now need to get to work.
To do:
Microburst logo design
Choose logo, finish package design
Process book
Sleep (only 3 things on the list... not so bad, right?)
Lots of progress using chat box... Maybe i need to be there more often. Looks like no sleep tonight... but chances are, I'll have my project finished and ready for critique by class time tomorrow.
Stayed up way too late last night reading stuff - for the second time this week. I think I do need to read the stuff (mostly psychology) but have to make some other time for it as the late morning starts and tiredness that follow are NO GOOD for my routine.
To do:
swim
check to do list
ironing
meet with R at 12 for workshop
on return - more from list
Had a slow and difficult start this morning but after that the day went really well. Workshop was great, caught up with some people. Also looks like I might have another project with my main client, plus I got rung about some follow-up work for another project that I didn't think was going to happen. More work = more challenge but better than fearing that consultancy work was fading out - had been anxious about this.
Will try to keep swimming while the outdoor pool stays open - seems to be good for my knee.

12:02 PM: I find myself "legitimately" busy, as opposed to behind because of my obstacle creating and attention distracting (and anxiety calming) behaviors. But I have to go out of town for a meeting on Thursday, so I can't drag this week's work into the weekend, as I am prone to do routinely. So, despite an unsatisfying track record at it, I need to focus today and tomorrow. Today's goal when I got to work *was* to work a solid 8 hours. But it is noon already, and I simply can't stay until 8 (or later), my usual approach to try to recover from a slow start. I also have things I need to prepare for the out of town meeting, so I can't dilly-dally at work. Maybe that's a good thing.
Goal 1: Work solidly until 6:15 PM, a half hour at a time, switching tasks at the end of each half hour (if not sooner). If a task takes less than a half hour, I will start a new half hour clock with the next task. Otherwise, the half hour thing falls apart.
Goal 2: Take a 5 to 10 minute break after every 2 half hour blocks. That doesn't mean surf for news. I will actually get up and move around.
Goal 3: At 6:15 PM, begin a half hour transition out the door, wrapping up details and the like.
Goal 4: Leave at 6:45 PM.
If I can get through all of that, I can sit down comfortably after dinner this evening and devote some time to meeting preparation.
A lovely relaxing long weekend. I did do some solid reading for my presentation. Went swimming on Saturday, but they were closed early last night.
Today's list:
- e-mail presentation partner to divide up sections for each of us to prepare - start setting up the powerpoint presentation
- swimming tonight (walking there and home)
- physio before bed
For today, I need to:
*Make a schedule for the week
*Check on expts (started)
*Get data from undergrad projects out the door (with possible exception of data on home harddrive) (have made progress on this)
*Get science data done and start nature data (have made good progress on this)
I might have time to do more than that. Once I have a schedule I'll make a more comprehensive plan.
Update 10:40. Now that I've made my schedule, I see that I need to:
*Cancel credit card (will do this soon)
*restore (will do this soon)
*Ask about gel extraction (working on this now)
*update lab nb (working on this now)
*clean bench(working on this now)
If I have more time, I'll:
*Call KC
*send out mp list
*email
right now, I'm going to work on science/nature stuff.
It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult. —Seneca
When we reach a stressful time in our lives, our vision gets narrow. We fail
to see the options and possibilities we have. If we give ourselves over
to our worries and fears, our sight closes down even further. Finally,
we reach the point of blindness to reality and to all the support around
us. In our fearful blindness we say with conviction, "This is too
difficult! There is nothing I can do."
The spiritual man strives to keep one eye on the horizon, even in a
worrisome situation. He breaths deeply so he does not tighten up or
closes off his exchange with the world. He returns to the relationship
he has with his Higher Power, trusting the process to carry him through,
and he opens his eyes to quietly take in the possibilities before him.
Close to my Higher Power, I have a place of calm in the midst of difficulty and see the possibilities and dare to act upon them.

Back at work after a 4-day weekend. Meh. I feel rested and refreshed, but on the other hand, I feel like I should have done more with my time off. But we need a break sometimes, eh? So I'm moving forward this morning on a positive note.
Making a todo list now. I know I want to catch up email, and I have a couple of meetings. I'll work on my new project which is off to a pretty good start, and prepare for this weekend's maintenance install on the QA system. I'm in non-crisis mode at work which is actually pretty unusual around here, so I want to spend some time on learning new skills also, rather than wasting the few extra hours I have. It doesn't happen that often in my job so I want to take advantage!
