fudoshin: day 20: 10:58pm

Please do not leave advice.  Thank you.  Prayers welcome.

This is the 19th day that I have followed through with the following:

I'm making a pledge to quit using the dating site(s) and Facebook for
90 days.  I had written this on my 43things account, but I wrote that I
wanted to avoid dating sites for a full six months, so I think 90 days
is reasonable for a dating site.  I also have a penchant for looking at
and stalking certain people repeatedly on the dating website and online,
which has prevented me from sanity.  Just all out stalking certain
people has been all out crazy; if I'm not stalking one person, it's
another person.   During times I've tried to quit the dating site before, I
have visited people's dating profiles, even while not registered on the
dating site.  So part of my whole thing with quitting dating sites is
also quitting stalking people's profiles that I've tried to date in the
past.  If I accidentally load a dating site, b/c I accidentally clicked
on something obviously that doesn't count.  You can hardly hang a cat on
the Internet without hitting a dating site ad.  Intention is
everything.

In other words:

  • 90 days away from dating sites and facebook
  • 90 days of not stalking people's profiles of people I've tried to date in the past
  • and I'd like to add: 90 days of not stalking people online that
    I've tried to
date in the past, which includes trying to IM them. (I am now back on
day 2 for this as today I went on linkedin and checked out the profile
    of a person whom I had as a co-worker, on whom I had a crush/obsession
    about).
  • 56 days of exercise: I'm on day one for this.  All I need to do is exercise for 30 minutes a day: walking, swimming, hiking, biking, running, jogging, karate, yoga, a dance class.  Anything of those for at least 30 minutes.  And nothing else.  I can do the running plan, but I assure myself that each day that I show up to run, I will be okay, if all I do is ultimately choose to walk.  Whatever I feel comfortable with when I do. That way I don't intimidate myself.

Thanks for the thread lennon.

I was so pleased that I got to the online meeting for the first time
today, but since then have struggled to get my work lists together and
make a plan. Along the way I have done a few tasks, but not necessarily
the most important!

My son has just made me a coffee Smile so I will try again with my priorities.

Done:

  • attend meeting
  • ring re veg box
  • book car repairs
  • ring/deal with VR email
  • download GIS
  • small personal GIS project (this was NOT urgent!)

To do (work):

  • MSC back up
  • buy V
  • look over job ads
  • ring EK
  • reply to Cathy O
  • read stuff for S and ring
  • plant ID
  • if time, choose another job from list

To do (home)

  • clean bathroom
  • pick up photos after 4 pm
  • visitor 4.30 pm
  • wash jars
  • sort jars and bottles

Grateful to have a clearer plan now. I see how important this step is.

Man, I have a lot to do today! Coming back from vacation, even a short one, is hard.

OK, so I need to do lots of organizational work:
Make a schedule for the week
Balance my checkbook
Clean off my desk/bench (have made really good progress)
Clean out my inbox
Pass on binder of class materials
Figure out what still needs to be done for visit weekend

And I need to do some work-work:
Study spanish for an hour and email prof
Start expt (IHC) (realized I needed to do a pre-req expt--I did this, but meant I didn't have time to start IHC)

And some social things
Email about baby shower, email DW

OK, whew! I can at least start these things, though.

Gwen D CI: Sunday 0930

Thank you PA for being here. I finished projects this week but now I can't stop being proactive. I am very grateful for all the good things in my life, including today's sunny skies. I have an appointment in the middle of the day today, and tomorrow has got to be a real work day, so today cannot be sluffed off. I must keep chaos at bay. I must work on my infrastructure. I have only three hours starting now.

_ dry cleaners errand

X cat food store errand

_ laundry

_ dusting

X clean fridge

X do all dishes

X mop floors (kitchen and bathroom)

_ vacuuming

---------

I should also plan things for my parents. Visits and X birthday presents.

I also have most of what I need to move my work onto the new computer. If I get everything else done, I can think about that. Maybe one more adapter to buy. But that is not important today! Today is for getting things tidy!

 First. Within 30 minutes.

X--- eat
X--- shower

'Twas a good Sunday. Have a good week!

READING FOR DAY -DELAYED GRATIFICATION

I believe that a sign of maturity is accepting deferred gratification.
  —Peggy Cahn

It's okay to want to feel good all the time. Happiness is something we all
deserve. However, there are often preparatory steps we need to take, a
number of which will not bring joy, before we arrive at a place of
sustained happiness.

The level of our pain at any particular moment
has prompted us to seek short-term highs. And with each attempt at a
quick "fix," we will be reminded that, just as with our many former
attempts, the high is very short-term.

Long-term happiness is not the byproduct of
short-term gratification. We don't have to earn happiness, exactly, but
we do have to discover where it's found. How fortunate we are to have
the program guiding our search. We will find happiness when we learn to
get quiet and listen to our inner selves. We will find happiness when we
focus less on our personal problems and more on the needs of others.

Many of us will need to redefine what happiness
is. Understanding our value and necessity to our circle of acquaintances
will bring us happiness, a happiness that will sustain us, and so will
gratitude for our friends, our growing health, our abstinence also
sustain us. Sincerely touching the soul of someone else can tap the well
of happiness within each of us.

I will find happiness. Searching within myself, I will patiently, trustingly share myself with others.

Journey 10 am

Good morning and Happy Sunday which is actually sunny here for a change.

My 2-hour work task last night turned in to a 5-hour task so I didn't get to bed until 1 am.  But everything turned out ok in the end.

Today, I want to do laundry, clean out the broken freezer so the repairman can work on it Wednesday morning, bathe the dogs, clean the big bathroom, make dinner, do dishes, prep my clothes and food for work and gym monday and tuesday, and finish up a couple of work tasks that I was too tired to do last night.    That should keep me busy enough that I'll be tired and ready to go to bed early.   I'm sure the super bowl will put me to sleep anyway lol.

I hope and pray you are all having a productive and enjoyable weekend.
