Inkstress Checking In

Better late than never!  I'm not having a very good day today. :-( ::sad:: I mean, it's okay, but I'm very scattered and have not been very productive.  I drank last night (which no one knows but you guys), which I justified because I really hurt my foot a couple days ago & I told myself it would help take the edge off.  It did, but of course then I got nothing done last night & was so sleepy this morning I was severely tempted to sleep in & miss work.  (I did get to work on time though - whew!)

My to-do list is going to be very easy today:

1. Return phone calls before end of day

2. Stay mildly busy with some sort of housework this evening - something I can SEE when I'm done, like dishes, not something like organizing closets!

Thanks to everyone for being here.  I think I took a nose-dive today because I'm mad at myself for drinking.  Tomorrow I plan to be back on track.

Was so 'in the flow' yesterday. Working was natural and rewarding.  Today is the exact opposite.  This is a pattern and I need to figure it out.

Don't know what to do next...

Ian's daily renewal / to-do list 11.18

DAILY RENEWAL

  • I'm powerless over perfectionism, procrastination, intensely uncomfortable feelings (fear, despair, etc), more substances and behaviors than I'll ever recognize in isolation. I can't manage my life. I quit. I'm out of management.
  • I want to be sober today. For work issues, these are the inner-circle behaviors I want to avoid:
    • sleeping to avoid work/reality
    • using my sexuality to avoid work/reality
    • working without a clear plan -- a prioritized to-do list, a time-boxed calendar
    • for now at least, working outside the PA Chatbox -- e.g., without bookending each task
    • staying in vague, unstructured time during business hours
    • impulsive decisions about what to do, or work on, during business hours
    • failure to record hours with a timer during business hours
    • failure to estimate how much time a task will take (no matter how many times I get it wrong, I want to keep trying)
    • failure to scope a project
    • engaging in perfectionism: seeking immunity from disapproval/judgment via a strategy of producing nothing until I feel total mastery over the subject, and then chipping away at a deliverable until I'm certain it is unassailably perfect. I'm not sober if I'm exceeding my time estimates more than 3x-4x.
  • I'll do whatever's necessary today to walk a path that allows me to be useful.
  • Only higher power can keep me sober, but I need others to connect to higher power — and other people can help me see things I won't otherwise see, and can help me be accountable.
  • this is just for today; tomorrow I can go another way if I so choose.
  • I turn my will and my life over to walking whatever path the truth — the dharma — reveals to me. I am a loved and cherished part of the infinitely powerful whole. This must be true, otherwise I would have experienced all the consequences I (in my delusion of omniscience) felt absolutely sure my past actions have earned me.
  • in the past 24 hours, I didn't work my work program. Not a sober day.
  • in the next 24 hours, I'm not planning to do anything I would be ashamed of.
  • obstacle ahead: fear, anxiety, urge to be dishonest.

Journey 11:00 UPDATE AND THANK YOU

Late check in, busy morning!   I have the final planning meeting this afternoon for my top priority project and I am all ready for it!  I came in a bit late this morning, on purpose, because I'm still tired from the weekend and I have another all nighter coming up this Saturday night.    I've had two meetings this morning and in between have been on the phone with the help desk for a computer problem.

As soon as this meeting is over, I'm going out to lunch for the first time in WEEKS.  I haven't even made my todo list yet.

UPDATE 1:30 pm Went out for a nice relaxed lunch with co-workers and actually felt that I deserved it . . . my work life is certainly much better since I joined this fellowship, so THANK YOU for being here.

Finally making my todo list for the day lol.   I don't expect to get much done this afternoon except conduct the final planning meeting for my top priority project, but still need to stay on top of what needs to be done and what can be accomplished in what's left of the day.

UPDATE 3:30 final planning meeting done, no more weekly meetings for this project.  \o/.  Sending out the updated plan, then I have a coupla admin things to do.  I did finally make my todo list at 2 pm lol.  I will work on my 2nd priority project from 4-5 then I'm so outta here!

kromer 10:30 CI

having a really hard time getting started this morning...so far all I've done is to check on expts, I feel seriously seriously stuck.

OK, so making a SHORT list for the day.
*card for M&F, email SC
*Notes from conf call
*Run PCR
*spec samples
*ask about key, bug CE

I can probably get more than that done, but I want to keep it to something manageable so that I can actually feel successful.

Getting off my butt to spec samples and start PCRs

tracy-la thursday morning

Good morning,

Basics: (1) checking in / showing up; (2) checking calendar - done;  (3) gratitudes - done; (4) reading - done.

 Cutting Proscrastination At Its Source

What is the primary source of my procrastination? Part of it is the Internet, being a news/info junkie, and chatting at work. Staying away from those temptations is important for me but I need to be realistic in that I will check personal email, be somewhat social at work, check FB since people communicate with me there and the newspapers -- but I need limits and not to go there during the day for more than 5 minutes. But 5 minutes can turn into 30 min. So staying away is much better for me. Perhaps I need to call a PA friend or find some way of tracking my time when I get on the Internet.

This is like eating healthy. If I have ice cream or cakes in the house, I would eat them when I'm tired, hungry or in an off mood. So better not to have them there. Having a clean pantry helps avoid temptation.

I will keep track of how I use my time today and edit this as I go along.

 Project AL - 30 min; Project L - 30 min Project N - 15 min; Project NP - 15 min; Project T - 15 min; Project SS - 5 min; Project G - 10 min; Project S [2 hours 30 min work 7:30 - 10:15 am]

 Have a great day everyone.
