Think it through (I accepted that if I went on the computer last nite, I probably would not walk)But I don;t like the consequences. I need to remember that.
Thanks for starting the thread Helen! Nice to meet you all! I am going to start daily check-ins today. Checking in from the USA at about 10:45 Eastern Time.
-BC
Tasks at work (8AM-5PM):
-Check out control boxes to make sure they are usable
Update from the day after: a customer issue came up at work and I could not finish many of these. I also got started with alot of them and found that some were more difficult than I first thought. Maybe I put a little too much on my plate. I was working on stuff the whole day though and did not slack off. This check-in was definitely the reason I did not slack.
-BC

9:43 AM: Still at home. Last week at my current job, and it is hard to drag myself in there. Had a fairly productive weekend and some quality time with my kids. Need to get cracking.
Goal 1: Ready and out of here in 30 minutes. No good reason I should lollygag for and hour or two. Back with work goals later.
11:46 AM: Took me about an hour to get out of the apartment. Had an early lunch, and now sitting at work, unmotivated to start. But start I must.
Goal 2: 6 cases in 2 hours, 12:15 - 2:15 PM. First a few minutes to go adjust my caffeine dosage. Back to report.
1:12 PM: Still circling. Found a few ways to waste more time. Time to focus.
Revised Goal 2: 6 cases in 2 hours, 1:15 - 3:15 PM. Back to report.
3:08 PM: Have only managed to deal with two cases. I think I had a small "Eureka!" moment. I have no plans for today other than to work on cases. That clearly does not work for me. Rather than plowing into the cases, I dawdle and put them off, in the end only producing for a few hours, and feeling fatigued simply by the number of hours spent *at* the workplace, not actually *working*. This is the pattern that has been a disaster for me career-wise and family-wise, resulting in my staying at work until all hours just trying to compensate for hours wasted earlier in the day. I don't get the work done, *and* I don't give my family the time they deserve. I also *don't have time* to do anything else except go to the workplace and go home at night. As hard as it is for me, I have to establish some boundaries, even if it is the last week at this job. Of course, that causes me anxiety. There is no easy solution. Here is an attempt to draw a line in the sand, at least for today.
Goal 3: Work from 4 - 7 PM, 9 cases in 3 hours. *Leave at 7 PM*
Back to report.
Only managed 5 cases, but did leave manage to about 7:30 PM. Better tomorrow.
Late start today; got to the gym at 6:15 (again! working on getting there earlier but not making a lot of progress) and work at 8:45. I want to be at my desk by 8:30, although technically I don't have to be here until 9, I really really want to start and end my work day earlier. I guess if I want it bad enough I'll do it lol.
Off to make todo list, I have two stressful meetings today but we'll get thru them, eh? I will work thru lunch and I will leave by 5:30! I want to make dinner tonight - it's about half prepared so I should be able to finish it up in about 20 minutes when I get home.
OK I'm rambling, time to make todo list and get to work. Have a great Monday!
UPDATE noon: I had a hard time getting started this morning, but I got a few things done and now I'm preparing for my very important 1:30 meeting. The other stressful meeting was cancelled, which is a good thing! My 1:30 is in another building so I need to be ready by about 1:10. Posting to help me stay focused! My mind keeps drifting today and I find myself suring the net when I have a lot of work to do. Onward!
UPDATE 2:45 The 1:30 wasn't so bad. I had to meet with a manager I've never met before and ask for help on a project . . .she was very helpful and nice, but it was still stressful and I'm glad it's over. I've been back for half an hour, had lunch at my desk and goofed off a bit, now back to work.
UPDATE 3:15 Yay! just finished a moderately hard task, and avoided the post-stressful-meeting danger zone which is a prime time for procrastination for me. On to the next task.

Thanks for the cheery thread-starter, Helen! I had intended to work most of the weekend but my inner sabbatarian got hold of me and I rested instead, did minor household stuff and lots of 12 Step stuff. It felt like the right thing to do. Even so, when I did start some work-work late yesterday afternoon, I kept falling asleep over my computer, lol!
So I set the alarm and got up at 3:45 this morning and have worked steadily since. Completed a major script and ppt order, talked with sponsees, ate breakfast, did some Step 11 (in that order, oops ), made an important phone call, lined up a housesitter for this week's trip, and checked in here. :-)
Now I've made a plan with some notes to self on recent problems in my PA recovery, and I will start by asking HP for focus and strength to stay on time and on task today:
send script and scenarios to client DONE!
draft agenda and supporting docs for thur mtng DONE!
book hotel for thur DONE!
write wp text postponed - out of time until wednesday now
settle wp subcontract issues (ball in boss's court - needs a push!) DONE!
draft outline of brg outr - assign to vr DONE!
schedule any remaining wp/brg action items Postponed-no time now
catch up reading on PreAp and Y projects Postponed-no time now
send vr's info to ms DONE!
spend 20 minutes focusing on staffing issue Postponed-no time now
2pm stop working and go get granddaughter DONE!
do something fun with her (note to self: no coming back here to work!!) DONE!
4:30 take granddaughter to soccer DONE!
6 dinner DONE!
7 Alanon or OA? (note to self: choose powerfully, don't procrastinate b/c can't decide. Consider that there is no PERFECT choice!) NOT done: once again a major work issue erupted in late afternoon with fresh deliverables due in the morning. :-(
9:30 bed not going to happen - see above frowney-face :-(
OK, bit of a late start this morning. Again, feel like I have so much work that I just shouldn't even bother to start, but I know that' not useful thinking.
Things I need to get done:
*Read 4 papers from MK and brainstorm what I want to talk to her about (1.5 papers read)
*Start PCR, check on expt
*Finish pres ofr subgroup meeting (doesn't need to be good, just needs to be done)
*Notes from mtg w/ advisor (partly done, more still do to)
*Read cell bio chapter on mitosis/meiosis
*Take out trash and empty dishwasher.
*Check on WM (started but turns out there are a lot of problems that need to be fixed
OK, going to spend 30 min and get as much of presentation done as I can, then go do some reading.
Done:
Up prayer and reflection
Checked emails and postings
Bath and washed hair
Out and got hair cut
Back and organised finances for abroad telling credit and debit card people I would be away and arranging payment by direct debt
Opened Saturday's mail and filed it
Todo:
Bath and wash hair - it itches after the haircut
Whatever else for going away
I've made a good start today and need to keep going
Done:
Bath etc
Washed shirts and hung to dry
Cleaned out fridge and started defrosting
Chatted with friend on phone
Listed todo for tomorrow
Got out more stuff for going away
Yesterday was a washout. Procrastinated all afternoon and evening. Felt totally rubbish doing it but still would not change. Today is a new day. I have so much to do but I am going to say provided I keep going (with suitable breaks) any activity is a good activity regardless of urgency.
