We have long known that the emotions affect our physiology and when we are happy we smile. When we are not we frown.

What we have discovered in the last thirty years is that our physiology affects our mood. If we smile, we end up feeling happy. So no matter how you feel just now stand tall and act as you would when you are on top of the world. Breath deeply and take in that wonderful life giving oxygen. Now put on a great big    SMILE                                    smile.    There is a type of meditation which consists of smiling on every out breath. Do this for ten out breaths and notice how your mood improves.

Also note that in the above we used the as if principle, where you act as if and that acting will alter your physiology and mood (mind/body). (http://lifefocuscenter.com/blog/dont-worry-smile-happy/)

Man, this procrastination is tough. In the last few months I have quit drinking and playing computer games, but I am not doing well with the procrastination. Quitting drinking and gaming was relatively easy, once I'd made my mind up to try to do it with the help of online support forums and daily check-in threads. With procrastination, not so much. This lends some credence fo my idea that procrastination was at least partly fueling the drinking and gaming. In other words, drinking and gaming were just covers for the desire to avoid demands on me. I have long felt that I am lousy at meeting people's demands, including my own. I feel unable to really measure up to expectations. And I think this may be what leads me to procrastinate so much, at least to a considerable degree. Anyway, here's my to-do for today:

PREP

  • get up before 7 a.m., drink coffee, read paper
  • organize daily schedule
  • post to check-ins
  • water plant, take pills
  • Exercise

MORNING

  • Pay bills
  • Draft lowcost article
  • Deliver Meals on Wheels
  • Eat healthy lunch

AFTERNOON

  • check on kids' lunch schedules this week
  • check on RB's cat, water her plants
  • Return due library books
  • Return rented movie
  • Complete and file lowcost article

EVENING

  • Cut grass
  • Go to songwriter's group or find open mic to play
  • Read, music, relax
  • Go to bed by 11 p.m.

I think that's doable. The essential items are delivering meals and filing the lowcost article. Man, I hope I can get this procrastination under control soon. I'm not sure why this check-in isn't working as well as the ones for drinking and gaming did. Perhaps because procrastination is harder to define. You're either drinking or not, gaming or not. When are you procrastinating? Can you actually never procrastinate at all? Not so easy to answer. Back to trying.

Hi Scribbler and

Hi Scribbler and welcome.

I think that there's a weird paradox about not doing not doing--too many double negatives!

For me it only helps to try to do the next thing. Telling myself not to procrastinate hasn't worked...(apparently the  subsconscious interprets do no as do...)

Slooooow start this morning. Sleepy. (but smiling. Thanks Vic!)  I need to spend 15 minutes to outline my goals for the day, but will re-post when I get that done.  Somehow just checkin in here stops my usual morning procrastination and starts me on a more productive pathway.

Journey 9:30 UPDATEs

Posting my todo list in here while I was on vacation seemed to help so I'm gonna try it now that I'm back at work and see how it goes!  Somehow checking things off in here where other people can see it is quite inspiring.   I'm not sure the strikethroughs will work on our outdated browser but we'll see

  • Gym
  • To Do List
  • weekly review
  • Allow 2 hours for rotation duty - 2 hours - started
  • Post calories on Calorie King - 10 minutes
  • Journal - 15 minutes
  • SSA - work on form for 5 minutes
  • Quiet time - 15 minutes
  • Project V - Create and test new disk - 1 hour -but the test failed!
  • added - copy new disk from alternate location and test again - 1 hour
  • Project V - Review network config - 1 hour
  • Project M - Planning Meeting - 1 hour
  • Project M - Reporting Meeting - 1 hour
  • Send G an email about J's check - 5 minutes
  • Prep for building move - go thru 10 files - 10 minutes
  • email - 30 minutes - started
  • commute - 1.5 hour
  • DD cooking dinner, I'm doing dishes - 1 hour
  • prep for gym tomorrow - 15 minutes

That sounds like a plan.   I'm going to work on Project V first and then do a couple administrative type things.

Update 3:05 pm yay, a great day so far!  It really does help to put the most important stuff in here and check it off . . . especially the little 5/10 min things that are so easy to postpone, I'll go ahead and do them just so I can have the pleasure of checking them off in here.  I'll work on that network config stuff, and I think i might be done with rotation stuff for today, but I won't cross it off yet as something could come in before the day is done.  But hey!  At this rate I'll be able to leave early instead of staying late as usual.

UPDATE 5:20 YAY Completed everything on my work list.   The network stuff is still not working, and I am tempted to go over everything one more time and see if I can get it fixed before I leave BUT I AM NOT!  I committed to reviewing it today and I have done that, so I shall go home and look at it with fresh eyes in the morning.   I think  a lot of times I stay late, because I feel that I didn't work hard enough or get enough done even if I did work hard.   And those late hours are pretty useless because I'm tired and don't get anything accomplished anyway.  So, nyah.  Leaving now . . .*waves*

8 pm . . .home, had dinner, now time for dishes and prep for tomorrow, not time to play video games eh . .

Hi all and thanks for day starter Vic.

kromer 8:45 CI

First step for this morning is to come up w/ a schedule for the week. Once that's done, I'll come up with a list for the week.

Update 12pm

I came up with a schedule for the week, then I went to lab mtg.

Today is a busy day!
I have a scheduled mtg 12-1.

MITs are:
*Start IHC
*Ask about dentist (I think I have someone and will make an appointment tomorrow)

*Figure out how long RNA-seq will take(have a rough idea, need to go through in more detail)

Other tasks are:
*Start teaching portfolio (made a little progress on this)
*Email CE
*Talk to MC, email about plate reader (asked around and found out who I should contact for plate reader, I'm thinking

OK, going to go have lunch now, then I'll ask about dentist, and start figuring out how long RNA-seq will take, then I'll head to mtg.
