Wednesday March 31 2010

Hi everyone! Good morning!

I'm new here, and this is the first time I've started the page, so forgive me if I mess up... Innocent

How do I post a picture?

Have a productive day!

Pyrotecher CI Wed 31Mar2010... with some looking back

Check-In at 7:30 pm

Almost 2 weeks since my last CI (16Mar2010: http://procrastinators-anonymous.org/node/2672#comment-37330)  and not much has changed.

I still have one of the two big tasks and the deadline is looming end-of-week. (The other task I was working on 2 weeks ago was due earlier so I'm "done" but not proud of how I did.) My tasklist is still a frightful mess and I'm trying to keep up with it.

All this while personal tasks continue to demand my time. Chores, taxes, home emergencies. Everyone has to deal with them but I let them monopolize my mind and energy.

-=-=-=

All this in the present was put into a little perspective this week because I had a couple of milestone anniversaries of major events in my life. One of them was the first day of my first full time job out of college.

Looking at it now as an admitted chronic procrastinator, there's definitely a tinge of regret for what I "might have accomplished" if I had a handle on my problem earlier. I didn't recognize procrastination per se as a core problem back then, but I knew I had "time management" issues. One tool I was already using was time logging (it helped immensely in college) and in my archive files I actually found my time logs from my first year on the job. In the the few minutes I took to look at those old logs, I could see myself struggling to stay on top of things even back then; my problems are magnified and more entrenched now.

Determined to take this as a positive motivation, I realize that my problems are not going to solve themselves on their own. I need to take this as (yes, yet another) wake up call to get the life I am living now under control.

Today I am helping someone bail out their flooded basement. Maybe I'll build an ark. Tongue out

I can't put much on the agenda today for "my" stuff. A little frustrating, but that's ok, as I'm helping someone else out. I do want to at least accomplish the following;

  • put HS rules
  • fix CC shipping
  • revise BSSB banner
  • ad BSSB ad
  • upload BSSB site

Long time no talk to here - I hope everyone here has been well! I haven't checked in for a long time...at first I was really busy (and was getting a good bit accomplished) and didn't find the time, but lately I have fallen off the wagon and I have been procrastinating quite a bit, so I need to check in and be accountable to this group - so here I am. I will try to post an actual "to do" list once I make it into the office - that is the first thing I need to accomplish today! I have been procrastinating on getting into work in the morning and then procrastinating while there... so hopefully I can begin today to do better by checking in again here.

Thanks for being here!

cl daily overcoming

i am always, always encouraged coming here!

i've had some deadlines at work, and i've been binging. as i was going thru it, i thot it was the right thing to do. but i should know better as an addictive procrastinator that my thinking is not clear when i'm "in that place" or whatever we call it.

i could have planned my day, and deliberately excluded or--egads, shortened--activities, instead of ignoring them altogether. I could have spent 1 hour on the things that were most important other than this one big huge task, and that would have been more balanced. Eg i could have had a shortened quiet time.

but i did accomplish it. and i do feel good. and i'm having my standard "i just accomplished something big so now i can sit back and relax" response. sigh. oh me.

so, here i am...

:) 10min ci
:) 10min emerg email only / ck mtgs
:) 12:15 30min quiet time
12:45 7min dailies
12:55 7min work plan

:) 2 mtg
:) 3 mtg
:) 4:00 30min mtg
:) 4:30 work
6:00 60min wko
7:00 15min rdy
work hard.

kromer 9:30 CI

Today I have lots of time-limited, relatively easy and straightforward tasks. So I'm hoping that I this will be a fairly temptation-free day in terms of procrastination.

Scheduled: mtg w/ CL 4:30-4:45, OH 7:00-8:30 (I need to do a bit of prep for these, though not too much)

MITs:
Urgent stuff that I should have an easy time doing:
*Review 2 pset questions
*Titration curve
*Analyze imaging expt data (working on this now)
Less urgent stuff that I don't want to skip:
*Work 1 hr on organizing comp. lab nb (will do this after lunch)
*Figure out tax status of insurance

*Check on supplies
*Wash dishes

Other tasks I would like to get done:
*Finish state taxes
*Analyze RT data
*Start comp for EA

I'm going to start w/ the  2 pset questions.

kromer 9:20 CI

Didn't get as much done as I would have liked (though, looking at my list, it's clear I have gotten some stuff done), and am feeling seriously cranky.

I'd like to salvage this day as much as possible.

So, I'm going to go work on analyzing data for an hour, then I'll go home, do the dishes and go to bed.

Update 11:10--did a solid hour and a half of analysis work. Yay me!

Journey 7 am

Late start this morning, I'm just now getting ready to exercise.   Had a late night last night with family drama

But yesterday's work day was pretty good, I was on a roll with Project G so I went ahead and finished all the scripts.   It's kind of irritating because this is in support of someone else's change, and I asked them twice if the scripts had been udpated and they said it was all taken care of.   They were working with the expert on these scripts so I assumed they knew what they were talking about.   As it turns out, they didn't know, and now these script changes are an emergency.   But, I have time to get it done, tested, and installed before they are absolutely needed so c'est la vie.

Today I will test the scripts first thing and then get back to Project V.

Thanks for the starter, GetStuffDone!

This is a REALLY short list for me - I'm still really tired and fell asleep again this morning, so the before-work parts are what I *did* accomplish.

This may or may not be a good decision because I'm so broke, but I'm going to use food rewards today. Going to buy a packet of crisps and reward each burst of work with one crisp. My friend who sits next to me will probably make some crummy comment about my eating habits, but I really need the boost this morning. I've already procrastinated today and want to get past it and make something of the day.

Before work:
Make and pack SF Smile
put insoles in shoes  Smile

Commute:
Full makeup Smile
Read some of book Smile
Prayer time  Smile

Work:
Daily Challenge:  All email, paper, tasks and contracts (except catchup files) up to date
Tidy desk
Got Everything Check: phone

Lunchbreak:
Get bike
Creative writing book - Go through daybook

After work:
Email/facebook/lj/forum
To E's for housework
Writing - 100 words
Charge phone
Vitamins
Clear kitchen
Tomorrow's list
Wash face/brush teeth - floss - clean contacts properly
Email report
Check in
Bed straight after check in!

Did not want to post on your CI once you reply to someone's post they can not longer edit it.

Good Luck today and welcome.

Thanks, Hope-Faith!

Thanks for the link! (And thanks for telling me the problem about replying to someone's CI...I decided to reply here instead, since I doubt you'll want to edit this post)

Good luck to you too! Smile

Your Welcome

Not a problem, replying on a CI only presents a problem if you like to go back and edit your post as you accomplish stuff. Once that reply is there you can not go back in and mark things of etc. But you can copy the post and just create a new CI.

Have a good and productive day.

Quick question...

Hi. Hope you are having a productive day so far! Sorry to bother you again.

Quick question: If I have a picture on my computer that I want to put on this thread...does copy-paste work? Also, is there a maximum file size?

Thanks for helping me out so far! You are awesome! Smile

GetStuffDone

No copy past will not work. Pro has included graphics that you can use to post, you can use other graphics but you have to remember copyright issues. Some have posted pics from other forum and resource that they are members of but keep in mind if you real name is associated with it or another of your information then someone could possibliy find out information about you that could identify you or information that you did not intend to share.

Not sure about the max file size. If you have a large pic you could pull it into powerpoint save as a JPG and reduce the size of the pic. There are other ways but I think this way to be easy and descent quality.

Hope this helps.

It looks like you are having a great day yourself. Keep it up you can do it.

I noticed in your post that you are studying anatomy. Not sure what level you are at. High School, College etc. but here is a resource where you can find different quizes and Java Games that might would help.

Thanks, Hope-Faith!

Thanks for the wonderful advice and tips! Thanks for making me, a relatively new member, feel welcome here. I'm not the one studying anatomy (I think that's Doit2Day) but the website is amazing! It has great resources for Chemistry and Economics (my weakest subjects). Thanks for sharing!
