 Show up (done)

Managed to spend the last 3 days procrastinating, it's so much hard work putting something that needs to be done off with other activities. Takes so much creativity and effort and feel totally drained. I did start, and a friend from the pjone meeting suggested the chat box, so here I go.

can't believe it, chat box is actually helping. so grateful.

(((Vic))) Well done -

(((Vic))) Well done - getting back after a long procrastination episode is the hardest part!

Way to go Vic! :)

Vic, I just joined here a few weeks ago. I've made progress. I've had my bad days, to be sure, but I'm better than I was. My biggest aids are the daily check-in -- I find that if I check-in and take 5 minutes to create a list of ATTAINABLE goals for the day - not too easy, but not impossible -- it usually leads to a good day IF I check in and edit my progress on that list 2 or 3 times in the day. Also, when I'm faced with a few hours of work, going into the chat box helps a lot. There are usually 1-3 people in there to cheer you on, and you can cheer them on too. Lots of support here. The key -- showing up every day. Just show up. Everyone here is supportive. No one criticizes. We all want to succeed together. Cool

Congrats on having some success. Hope to see you around! :)

(huma)

Thanks huma, it's so nice to have a "home"  to come to. take care, Vic

kromer 10:40 CI

Today is first day of spring break...I still want to get some work done, but on a more relaxed schedule (so, I'm fine with starting work at 10:45 today...)

First step is to make up a schedule of what I want to get done this week.

Update 11:40--OK, super-slow but I have a plan now:

MITs for total:
*Thaw cells, check on expts
*Exercies, keep track of minutes
*Do 1 small unit of physiology studying
*Email LL lab
*Finish outline, email AR and CE
*Send out deacon notes

Other tasks:
*Go over AvO lect 1
*Look at sensor structure
*Read about refinement
*Do comparison and email about
*Start looking at gonial prolif.

OK, I'm going to go get lunch now. Then, I'll ease into work w/ an easy, non-MIT task (looking at sensor structure), then I'll tackle expts, finishing outline, and emails.

kromer 2:40 CI

OK, today is a horrible, terrible, no good very bad day, and I've essentially failed to get anything done today.

One thing that sometimes works is to dramatically reduce my task list, and skew it towards easy tasks, so I can feel somewhat successful, rather than staring at my task list and whimpering :P

So, reduced list is:
*Thaw cells, check on expts
*Exercise, keep track of minutes
*Do 1 small unit of physiology studying (will do this when I get home, during dinner...I have a physiology coloring book so the studying is actually kinda fun)
*Finish outline
*Inventory possible resources I could use to look at sensor structure

Right now, I'm going to go thaw cells. Then I'll finish outline, using the chatbox and PA tools to work through this semi-challenging task.

Update 5:05--I decided that the emails on my original list sounded pretty do-able, so I sent those. Now I'm going to go check on expts, then work on inventory.

next morning CO

I did the unit of physiology studying, then I watched a movie. All and all not bad...got through most of my original MITs.

Well done for getting

Well done for getting yourself out of that slump! This is an inspiring lesson on how to do it :)

Journey 10 am

Starting a bit late today as I'm still tired from working the weekend night shift *yawn*.  Today I will take it easy, but that doesn't mean stop   .  The afternoon is fairly busy with meetings but I should be able to multi-task during part of that time.

I'm making my (short) todo list now.  I have a meeting at 10:30 which should be very brief, so my intention is to finish up my planning by then.

strike check-out 9.35 pm

Pretty good day today, the meeting and call definitely expanded my comfort zone. Wouldn't it be great if we could all meet up in some kind of productivity retreat and work during the day and go hiking in the evening :)

Well done Strike

I too have issues about being social so I know how difficult it can be. Well done

Thank you Helen and clement

It is always encouraging to know you're not the only one. In my case I know I'm more than capable of being social, but I can still get a bit anxious about it beforehand. My strategy is too not think about it and just go a head and do it even if I initially don't feel like it.

welcome strike!

And add me to the list of introverts (I often have to list social events under my "top priority tasks" to get myself to go--even though I generally enjoy them once I'm there.)

@strike

Yeah, me too, as a matter of fact it seems to me that most of "us" are introverts.

And I don't think I've welcomed you Strike so welcome to the crowd!

Cheers journey

Maybe that is true, I don't really know any people here that well yet. Actually I've been here since last week but under another name. Just felt like changing it. But thanks anyway :)
