Checking In at 8:15 am

GENERAL ISSUES / GOALS:
A Less prose in the CI posting :) . Focus more on what needs to happen.
Less verbage and more specific commitments.
B Schedule is badly out of kilter - been working till the wee hours then sleeping in.
Need to wrap up evening chores in time to get decent sleep
and start tomorrow on standard business hours.
C Boss sees the effect of my procrastination on productivity
   but only rarely says anything.
So I need to take action to make myself more accountable.
Tangible goal: Check in briefly with boss at least once before end of day
   to discuss today's project status/progress.
And make sure there's something to discuss!
D Today: Appointments late afternoon/evening-
have to (a) be on time and (b) focus work time before and chore time after.

MUTs (semi-chronological)
U1 Personal: Morning chores
U2 Work: Update Boss before end of workday (progress on MITs)
U3 Personal: Afternoon Appointment 4:00 pm
U4   Evening Appointment 7:00 pm
U5 Personal: Webpage Update
U6   Evening Chores
U7   Review Bills and pay current

MITs:
work
I1 Update Work Tasklist*
I2 Proj #1 - Planned Phone Call
I3 Proj #1 - Data Analysis - Setup Template Spreadsheet
I4 Proj #2 - Facilities search (followup on leads from yesterday)
I5 New Business - Planned Followup Phone Call
I6 New Business - Solicitation Download

personal
I7 Update Personal Tasklist*
I8 Personal Email Responses (Have list of 3 I consider high priority)

I put in the "codes" (I1, U1 etc.) as a shorthand so I can reference progress on today's list in my followup check-ins.

* Note on Tasklist items (I1, I7)
My Extended tasklists are currently muddled with a rats nest of scribble notes on stickies and in my hardcopy organizer which hasn't been brought up to date in 3 months.
First I need to get these scatterred reminders entered into my existing but neglected Outlook tasklist. Just get them entered first and my organizer up to date with any new immediate priorities which I (re)-discover. I'll have to worry about higher-order tasklist organization as a followup.

This overall list is ambitious but a few minutes to think about what needs doing next certainly helps. Tangible progress on more than one of the MITs would be an improvement. (I3 is my current major roadblock so making myself even look at it would be a victory.)

Well, I don't know if this qualifies as "less prose" (Goal A) but at least I'm getting a bit more focused on specifics. Seems like baby steps but if that's what it takes so be it.

OK, slept in a bit this morning, which was nice...I was really tired and sort of burnt out, and it's good to fell OK again.

That said, I'm tempted to use this good, reasonable break as an excuse to procrastinate all day--I've already spend about 20 min goofing off since getting to lab!

Today is a bit of a tricky day, b/c I don't have many urgent tasks to do...I mostly need to organize, plan, troubleshhot, etc.

Scheduled: mtg 1-2, class 5:30-7, maybe bible study or dancing in the evening

MITs:
*Clean up papers on desk+bench
*Planning for week and month
*Ask about antibody, figure out strategy for getting it to work
*Prep for mtg
*Brainstorm what might be going wrong w/ genotyping + how to fix
*Email about HPLC
*Look at slides
*Document rand runs, email

Other tasks:
*1 hr reading on RA metabolism
*1 hr reading on oscillators
*Doc how to add another organism
*Document how to add organism

OK, right now I'm going to clean up papers and do planning, then I'll brainstorm what might be going wrong w/ genotyping and ask about antibody.

hope4meandu check-in (9:47AM)

Hi Friends,

Well today is a snow day and I have a feeling tomorrow will be too. This is a great opportunity for me to get things done. I should have taken work home with me, so I'm mad at myself. If we don't have work tomorow, I will take home work on Friday over the weekend. I'm afraid I might blow today because....I'm a person who likes to screw myself up and also a procrastinator (among other things).

Don't have a to do list yet, too scared to make one. What I'm learning here, thankfully, is to start with the easiest thing, which is the last thing I would think was the way to go

K, list emerging:
-resumes
-OA meetings
-transfer credit card balance (was on my really hard list)
-balance checkbook (was on my really hard list)

Really hard to do, but need to:
-research insurance for business
-research how to get website viewed more
-should I get business cards
-call bank and ask them how I open up a business account
-work on website
-write up a great blurb and send it to yahoo groups, with my services...(really scary)

Cleaning:
-all floors
-dusting everything
-laundry

Down time:
-long walk with my girl
-reading with my girl
-work on song for 2/23?

Be safe today, especially if you're in the Eastern USA!! HUGS!!

Journey 9 am

Well I am practically a workaholic this week lol!  I worked late last night and was up early trying to get some system work done while those pesky programmers are offline.   Of course, I should have had it all finished by the end of January but at least I can say it's not because of procrastination, I have actually been working pretty hard on this project but 1) I didn't realize some of the complications 2) higher priorities took me away from it for a while.   In a way it's still my fault because I didn't plan well enough to allow for those things, and one thing I need to improve on is estimating time when planning a project, but WHAT THE HECK, I am ecstatically happy that I can say yes, I have been working hard on this project and not procrastinating!

Anyway, now I am going to pick up car #1 and drop off car #2, so I'll be back later.
