OMG, I have a 2nd interview next week and it looks GOOD!!

Hi All,

I'm so thankful for your support. My 2nd meeting will be to meet his partner and doggy friends. I think these people will be really good to work for, integrity, concern & care for the dogs. Think I will learn lots.

Today at work I must catch up matching gifts. That is one of the piles that continue to stare at me: }:-).

I'm going to try, if I get this job & can do it, to give more than 2 weeks notice, to show good faith & hopefully train someone, even though I really don't want to. It's scary how nice everyone is being to me this week?? :?

Hi there

Hello fellow procrastinators -

so, I thought I'd give this a try.

I have a couple of hours before getting ready for work. My plan is to get 2 hours of work done during that time. And, just as I'm going to get started, here's what happens (this morning, and many mornings):

I metally move into or tell myself, "OK, going to do X now," and that is, almost immediately, followed by a surge of fear. This morning it was mild. Sometimes it's not. Then, I seem to get scared by the fear. Like, "Oh, sh_t." And my next action seems to be one of avoiding. This morning that avoiding took the form of looking up a video game and playing that for a bit. Then I checked e-mail. Then I went to this site - since my membership was approved...

I'm interested in developing the capacity to either ignore the fear or short circuit it. I'm still looking into how. If it escalates enough my anxiety gets pretty intense. Hard to think and even to see. No fun - for me or any of the folks around me who love me. I get testy and cranky and angry and...helpless. Yuck!

So (since I can't tackle all of this at once), for this morning - just this morning - here is my to do list:

Heat up coffee

Feed cats

Get breakfast

Work on paper for 2 hours (try to finish the bloody thing!)

@ 11:30 get ready for work

12pm - leave

Thanks for listening -

hi mama_cat

your pattern sounds very familiar and i think you'll find we all have a version of that. You describe the steps leading to avoidance extremely vividly. i see them in myself.

i have great hope that like many others here, this site will help you.

Have you checked out the tools? We on the site find them very helpful! On the P.A. Meeting Materials page (which is < >) there's a link for PA Tools for Recovery which is at < >. One of the ones that helps me the most is "break it down".

I wish you a great recovery here!

OK, today is a relatively calm day: lots of studying, planning, organizing, not much "real work".

*Clean up bench and lab nb
*Study stats, go to stats lab
*Finish genotyping
*Email about HPLC
*Look at mitosis lengths, talk to DR, maybe set up mtg w/ DR
*Work 1 hr on EdU prop

 Other tasks:
*Ask about BrdU
*Prep mtg ME
*Call uni
*Ideas for genome-wide study

OK, now I'm going to study stats, then leave at 10 for stats lab.

Journey's baaaack

 What did I miss?

I really should have been back yesterday lol.  I took Tuesday off after a crazy Thanksgiving week with family AND work stuff.  I usually volunteer to be "on call" Thanksgiving week because it's a quiet work week but not this year.  And my mom wanted to have Thanksgiving at my house,  since it's the first Thanksgiving without my Dad she wanted to do something different so how could I say no?

I'm still limping along on a loaner pc at work and they promise my new hard drive will be installed today on my laptop.  Then I will have a day or two of getting things organized and reinstalled and stuff (again).  It's been frustrating.

Yesterday should have been a normal work-at-home day for me  but I was in a fog all day and didn't get a lot done.  I was still in vacation mode and never really got with it, including not checking in here.  This will change today, I'm starting off with checking in.  It changes my attitude towards the day when I start it off by checking in here and having quiet time.   I've been skipping both of those lately!

Today I will concentrate on getting everything ready for this weekend's install.  I've worked 4 out of the last 5 weekends, but after this week I will not have to work any more weekends until next year.  I may choose to do some work just to make my year end deadlines on a couple of projects, but I'm not required to, which is a relief.

I'm taking another vacation day tomorrow.  I'm attending a (work-related) meeting tomorrow morning because it's a good networking opportunity for me, but after that, I'm gonna get a haircut and then relax.

Have an enjoyable and productive day everyone.  If I'm not around for a couple of days it's because they have messed up my stupid computer again lol
