Show up, walk, church, fall festival with friend, store (done)

Did some research of Forrest Church, 1948-2009 because of his #1 show up, the only thing I have done. What an amazing man. He wrote:

In ethics, the golden mean for correct behavior falls equidistant between extremes, the right amount of any given quality perceived as ethically superior to too little or too much. Generosity, for instance, is the golden mean between miserliness and profligacy. Aristotle introduced the golden mean to Western philosophy 2,500 years ago. Weighing fear according to this ideal, the preferred alternative to panic is not fearlessness but prudence (the half-way point between the two). The word prudence today suggests fear, but originally it signified “right thinking.” Numbered among the seven classic virtues, it meant knowing the good and acting accordingly. In terms of the familiar Serenity Prayer— “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”—prudence is the “wisdom to know the difference.” So understood, far from being a drab virtue, prudence invites us to be bold, not timid, as long as we aren't foolish.

I suppose showing up would be the golden mean between shutting down and achieving every goal?

    Hello all.

Once more I raise my head from chaos, contemplate "higher power", participate here at P.A., and remember ...

... that "overwhelmedness" is NOT my higher power, and therefore, I can release it.

A REAL "higher power" bolsters us, and keeps us steady, and encourages us.

Little by little, with steady bits of effort, we really CAN get things done.

"fall down seven times, get up eight" - japanese proverb

    Morning all. This is my

Morning all. This is my first check in.

The area where P has effected me the most is in social situations. I have a nasty habit of putting off meeting new people or trying new things.

Last night I really tried to push myself through my procrastination nad fear. It worked, and I was able to push myself, but the outcome wasn't great and I'm left here this morning feeling pretty bad...

It's funny to log in and see the Hero's Code here, because #4 is something I have a real hard time with. It's the reason I procrastinate in the first place. Fear, fear, fear.

    letting go of outcome

yeah, letting go of the outcome vs. fear is huge for me too.

and yet, when i can do it, it really, really helps. To focus on what i can do, now, rather than the whole thing.

Like chickadee posts often, a quote from martin luther king--i dont need to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

For me the only reason i can let go of the outcome is because i trust that there is a Higher Power that's looking out for me. I turn the outcome over to Him, and then try to to my part in obedience to The Good.

I'm visiting my parents for the long weekend, so not much work, but I do need to finish a couple problems from my probability pset, type up my work and email it to my TA. I'm heading to the chatbox now.

If for some reason I have extra time today, I also have a couple emails to send and some reading I could do.

    e's sunday ci

Good morning. Hopeful today: the weather is crisp and clear and full of possibilities like apple picking. I am dressed and sponge bathed: taking out the dog for a walk. G is making breakfast and it is ready, so I will do that first. breakfast is eaten and I took the dog out for a long walk and errands: picked up medications at CVS and refilled others, looked at curtain rods and cleaning tools and bought some tea tree oil to kill the fungus growing on my cowboy boots  Undecided

Came back to find tickets for Aretha Franklin for my birthday from my spouse, which will be wonderful: I have always wanted to see her live. However, usually my husband makes me a card which is the best part of the birthday: apparently our relationship is so far gone that we no longer do these things for each other, which is very very sad. I am glad to be able to identify the emotions I am feeling today because they often contribute to my compulsive tendencies to eat or procrastinate. Instead I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face thankful that I can feel the sadness now instead of burying it deep where it festers. This feeling shall pass.

The World Time Clock...and Time Zones

    Hi movingalong,

Thanks for your post above about today's meeting. Appreciated the link to The World Time Clock below:

     > Click here (in this red type) to find your timezone equivalent for today's meeting.

What city are you referring to when you mentioned GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), by the way?

Thanks for the clarification. (I can most easily figure out the meeting's time zone for my area based on the Eastern Daylight Time you noted.)

    GMT is not a "city".

That's actually a very good question.

"GMT" (Greenwhich Mean Time) is nowadays called "UTC".

It is the time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England, but ...

... it stays in "standard time" year round. (no daylight savings).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time

We have members from all over the world, in several continents, in both Northern and Southern Hemispheres of Earth.

Each location changes in and out of Daylight Savings on a different week!

as you can see from the following map:
    http://www.worldtimezone.com/daylight.html

Therefore, we don't follow local clock changes.

We simplify by listing our online chatbox 12-Step meetings by UTC time.

    thanks for the starter.

Project U. continues to hang over me, so I'm up early to focus on it.

I will first get a bowl of cereal because I'm suddenly hungry and need some energy.
Then I will get to work, for 3.5 hours.
