Procrastinators Anonymous Tools:

5. Avoid Time Bingeing: One reason procrastinators dread starting is that once they start they don't let themselves stop. Plan to work on a task for a defined period of time, then set a timer. When the timer goes off, you're done.

6. Use Small Blocks of Time: Procrastinators often have trouble doing tasks in incremental steps, and wait for big blocks of time that never come. When you have small blocks of time, use them to work on the task at hand.

7. Avoid Perfectionism: Procrastinators have a tendency to spend more time on a task than it warrants, so tasks that should be quick to do take an agonizingly long time. Notice this tendency and stop yourself. Some things require completion, not perfection.

Hi Pro Buddies!

This morning I did a lot of journaling. This afternoon I am going to meet with my sponsor from another program to do a 5th step. I have already written out my 4th step (I did include some notes about procrastination, so I can consider it a 5th step for this program, too ;). However, I have had an issue come up on another topic, so I have journaled a bunch about that. So ... it could be a long meeting. lol

I had a great bike ride this morning. Even though the weather overcast, the temperature is good. I also did my qigong at the park and enjoyed the flowers, plants, and trees. At home, I have cleaned up and gotten dressed for a late-morning activity that I will go to soon. Next: pick out some things for Goodwill, and take them with me when I go out. I have 3 activities the rest of the day (including the 5th step), so I plan to update my CI eventually, but it could be later ;)

Have a great day, everyone! :)

Journey 8:30

Good morning!   Busy day today.  I have my todo list, and it's reasonable and doable, but will require staying on task most of the day.   Some fun things are on the list too!

first, make up the bed, and pick out clothes for work tomorrow, gym tomorrow, and baby shower today.

Thanks for the great thread starter Sarito!  I need to focus on #6 today.

e's Sunday

Today would be a great day to finish the taxes. I am going to do my best to do so by coming in and out of here, doing short bits of effort and using my ipod and the television as tools to accompany my work. The house is not picked up and I would like to do so, but am asking my Higher Power for help in not being obsessive about it.

Have a great day, everyone.

Third Step Prayer:
God, I offer myself to Thee - to build with me and do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy Will always!

Gwen D CI 8:30 pm day before

I will not be doing anything tonight if I don't want to do it. It's hot out and it's Saturday night. But I post this because I know there are things I want to (not HAVE to) but want to do before Monday morning and tomorrow could be a day to do them. I

I came to PA tonight because as I looked at a messy pile of papers and thought about putting them away, the little childish voice came out of me, "I don't WANT to!" Then I thought about Demand Resistance and needed to read about that again. We've had a dialog about it here since 2006. (use the search field)

Anyway, that's definitely what I suffer from, and considering I've been here since 2006, I feel like I'm only just getting that truth. Very interesting.

The phenomenon of demand resistence and the fallacy of waiting for motivation before action. I would very much like to resolve those two theories into an actionable habit.

Until tomorrow.

Until then... Thanks all for being here.

I really identify with your description of demand resistance and am entirely familiar with that little voice. I have recently been finding an enormous amount of recovery in the manageability of my life and with coping with that childish voice. I picked up an old copy of The Zen of Eating which I had purchased quite some time ago, but never read. It uses the teachings of Buddha as a tenet for dealing with the compulsion to eat, but I am finding it equally effective with that little voice. I am finding that (with my Higher Power's help) that I can sit back and get to see/hear those uncomfortable feelings I get which have held me paralyzed for so long that I can see them, acknowledge them and say to myself: how interesting, and then remind myself that I can still go ahead and do the next right thing anyway. What a shift in my ability to act!

asking for help to do the next right thing

thank you e!

Whoo boy. I'm having lots of fun in my own company today, trickling through tasks,  but I am moving SLOW. Next right thing indeed. Thanks so much for the words. Maybe I can realize that I will be better aligned with the Will of Good if I set the timer and check in with myself, and power through those lazy moments and contrary voices. And that that will be better for me.

I think it will be helpful to set an end goal. How about this one? Leaving the house and using a car share car to go visit my friend who just recovered from surgery.

Let's say, 3pm to 5pm? I'm really conflicted about that! Am thinking of all the reasons NOT to do it.

But for the next hour I'm going to act as if that is my goal... and finish cleaning house and doing errands!!

Gwen D CI: 6:30 pm

I'm just going to accept the fact that I'm having a weekend on my own terms.

I have been moving, and cleaning and sorting and generally making way for the week ahead. I've scrubbed the kitchen top to bottom, including sorting and washing shelves of stuff, that sort of thing. I can see there's more to do in terms of straightening up, and maybe, just maybe I will see my way to washing a load of laundry.

Whoops! Call from a friend who needs a meal companion. i'm going to prioritize her. We'll see what comes next.

Life is good. I sure have a lot of leeway in my life.

I have finished four out of five areas.

It's an okay day and I'm still motivated, but I should sleep if I want to wake up in a rested state for tai chi tomorrow.

We'll see.

Thanks all for being here. Appreciate the place to report and observe.
