Friday November 7th

It's Friday--have a good one!

scarlett CI 1:00 pm EST

The last couple of days have not been very productive, and this morning was taken up by a meeting, so I am "starting my day over" by working through my morning routine, even though it's 1 pm.

Will check back in with a to-do list when I've done that.

The adrenaline you've been living on only leaves you wanting.

Journey 11:30

This morning has been super-hectic and I haven't even gotten any real work done!

I'm a volunteer fire warden for the building and we just got a notice yesterday that we're having a fire drill today, so I had to go to a meeting, train my new co-warden, and field lots of dumb questions from people who want to get out of doing the fire drill   I don't mind though, I work in an older building that's 21 stories tall and there's a restaurant in the basement so we need to be prepared.   One of these days the place will go up in flames and everybody needs to know what to do!

I did not have quiet time this morning, so I'm going to take 5 minutes now for that, then take a look at my todo list and see what I might be able to salvage out of this day.

Journey 5 pm

This has been a strange day due to fire drill stuff, but the afternoon was quite productive.  I got a good bit done on Project P.  Now that it is underway, it is much easier to work on it.   Up until this week, I've been floundering around trying to figure out how to approach it, but now that I'm through with that part it's just a matter of slogging through the trenches.

I have read over and over again that when working on a big project, you should 1) define the project - why are we doing this?  What does a successful out come look like?  2) break it down into the smallest possible steps and 3) create a timeline with many small deadlines along the way.   It's absolutely true, but yet when I start a new project I still try to start in the middle and think that I should know everything before I even start.   Forehead slap!!

I also started preparing a bank deposit for my toastmaster's club.  I hate that task, and put it off as long as possible although it's really not a big deal.  Why do we dread some tasks beyond all pretense of reasonableness?   I think because I feel deep down that I'm not really qualified to handle anyone else's money, because I struggle with managing my own, that I have a horror of screwing something up and then having to face my friends in the club.   These fears are totally unfounded, but still . . . they are there.

I never did set MITs for the day, because it was crazy from the get go this morning, but I still feel that I worked on the most important things, so it's ok.

I'll spend the next half hour on my online training course, then leave for the day.

Tonight, pick up dinner, browse the grocery ads and come up with menus for the week, and then chillax.  It's Friday night.

b.e. task 11:16 - 11:37 == 20 min. But that was pre task.
11:38... nah, changed my mind. It's not MIT.
11:40 : Back to MIT 1.
2:45 : MIT 1 is going well. MIT 2 also going well. But haven't had my quiet time, nor checked in here. So i'm being a little obsessive, altho productive. But it's not good for my long term health.
5pm : feeling resistance. wish i had checked in earlier. back to task. ci in 15 min.

Hi Everybody --

This has been a really unproductive week for me, primarily because I haven't been checking in here. But the fundamental task of recovery is to "keep coming back," so here I is!

To do today:

  1. White Paper revision and off
  2. Check on CETPA
  3. email Della on article
  4. Follow Up with ES re: release
  5. Client conference call
  6. Respond to PR email
  7. Complete phone paperwork
  8. Microburst on PF book

Thanks so much for being here, and watch for the lines!

Greetings! Hope everyone has an awesome Friday. Today's list to review with HP includes:

  • verify banking issues
  • fax my release form
  • start calling The Twenty
  • Check the AP Inbox and respond
  • Find out when check is coming
  • Work 1 hour on the paper pile on my desk
  • write job descrip for new hire
  • check with coach about the office rental and new hire
  • Email J&M my observations re Mom
  • Type J's to-dos
  • Type up 12 months' travel plans for J
  • 30 minutes exercise (dog walking counts!)

Next I'm going to get coffee, pray, plan food, eat, call sponsor. My work goal is to start at 10 today. (not even close). I've really noticed how my habit of late-starting sabotages me.

Yesterday evening and this morning have been a bit of a disaster...haven't gotten any work done, just want to hide in bed.

OK, now I'm going to turn the day around. I'm going to get off my butt, make my bed, pack a lunch and head to lab, where I'll work on NM's project for 2 hrs and then go to class. After class I'll check in again...I need to work, but if it's on easy stuff that's OK.

Update 9:45--success! I got off my butt and got to lab. Unfortunately cells weren't ready yet, so I'll need to work on NM's project after class. I'll email CJ now to let him know the status of cells, then I'll work on probability pset (not too urgent, but feels doable).

e on Friday morning

yesterday was truly unproductive. Today seems like a recipe for failure, given the rain and the fact that my family woke me up in the middle of the night. So, I am going to set only 1 task at a time.

health insurance: if nothing else happens today this is what is important.....

e's pm

some headway made on the insurance: questions got asked, now just making final decisions.

next: choose a physician and see how far out appointments are for specialists

e's saturday completed

I did complete the enrollment for insurance and so the mit did get done. it was a lot more involved than I thought, so I am glad I did not lay out a lot of other things on my plate as it needed most of the day. However, I blew off making dinner and did only some of the dishes, so I am not feeling particularly together. I realize that if the sink is not clean I feel discouraged about cooking dinner. And so I balk. And I don't mind doing dishes if my rubber gloves are in good working order - which they have not been recently. So tonight I now have three new pair of rubber gloves. Tomorrow son#1 goes off to Western Mass on a job interview: keep your fingers crossed. The dining room is in better shape, as is the kitchen. I may be moving like a turtle but things are moving slowly ahead.

for tomorrow: full morning routine on schedule.

dinner at A's house with out of town people. Ugh.

finish bill pay

laundry, laundry, laundry. Or actually, maybe I will train son #2 to do his own......

get some exercise.

post for tomorrow

I'm having a hard time getting started today, but it's important for me to be on campus before 9 today, so I want to get moving and get some GSG work done before then!

This evening I have social plans so I want to be sure I spend the afternoon preparing for the impending exam.

  • 11/7/08 7:30 Teacher Conference Son Conference did not go well. Son is having behavior issues in class. A very hyper young man and in know this. He is such an awsome child full of life and he has to be able to move. His math is very good however his reading is below the expected level. I am a little upset about this. Nine weeks into the school year and the teacher is just now addressing this with me. He has had 3 progess reports sent home over the last nine weeks and I have not had any indication that he is below level in reading. The papers that he has brought home have been great no indication that there is a probelm his reading at home is great so I am not sure where the problem is other than the way that they test him. I will not get into that issue now. Anyway time for me to get off of my soap box and move on.
