kromer 11 CI

OK, did all the above, cleaned out most of my inbox (from 1500 messages to 50, I think that's good enough), tutored, called A, had a reasonably nutritious dinner, and have done an awful lot of goofing off. I need to regain focus for another 30 min and work on studying for Spanish, then get to bed.

Isa 739pm CI

All right...

Exercise...done
Practice P...done
Finish small part of project I...done
Log warranty...done

I also had dinner...and finished other small things...

not too shabby...there are still 3 millions other things to do but well...

one thing at a time...
one day at a time...

Journey 5:15

Work day is over, and we're going out to dinner for a belated Mother's Day dinner tonight so no chores this evening.

This has been a very good day.  I did not complete all the MITs that I set, partly because I set too many and partly because I had to work a trouble ticket.  And of course there are many lower priority things on my action list that I didn't get to today.

However, in spite of that, I feel great about my work day because:

  • I spent the entire day working on my most important tasks.
  • I overcame the transition trauma and changed activities with a minimum of avoidance behavior.
  • I know exactly where I spent all my time today, and I feel that I made wise decisions and did the best I could.
  • I'm learning to expect a reasonable amount of work from myself each day, and then actually producing that reasonable amount, rather than expecting miracles and getting nada.

Let's hope tomorrow will be just as good!

I think we'd all like to be able to say that at the end of a day!

My semester ends in less than 2 weeks, and I think I'm actually going to get everything done! I just need to keep my focus and tie up all the loose ends I have.

My priority for the next couple weeks is to get my stuff back in order...I've been panicked about not finishing my thesis/final papers, and have let myself get totally disorganized, and flaky on minor tasks I'd promised to do.

That said, my next few tasks are:
*Go over econ pset
*Email about tutoring
*Email about orgo book
*Start charging cell phone, check for messages every 30 minutes
*Set cells for Wednesday's experiment

I'll check back when all those are done.

Yay Kromer for semester progress!

Wow! This is huge!   Just huge!

Yay kromer!

welcome back E!

Good to have you (and feel better soon!)

e sick-in-bed ci

Thanks for the chorus of welcome back e's! I really appreciate all of them!

Considering how bonked out I felt today, I did okay. I have a lot of things I could be worrying about, but I am not fretting right now. I made some progress on an overdue project today, took care of my needs, and while I am feeling some 'after-burn' of guilt from asking to have them met, as Melody Beattie describes it in The LANGUAGE OF LETTING GO, I am gettng better at it lately.

Today I am NOT cooking dinner, I have called in probably sick for tomorrow, and arranged for a meeting to be handled for someone else to handle an appointment if I don't make it. I am in bed, I am not handling my niece's travel arrangements for her vacation, nor am I going to take responsibility for my son's undone homework: if he screws up, that is the natural consequence of his behavior. So there!

Now the other co-dependent side of me is screaming, wait, wait, you don't mean that, but today I actually do mean it. I have a hard enough time taking care of myself without splintering myself to make sure other's take care of themselves.

So, for tonight, I will: brush my teeth, get rest, work on some paperwork, and perhaps start a load of laundry. I will also think about a particular powerpoint presentation on boolean searches.....

Nice boundaries, E!

E, I hope you feel better soon!

Good for you setting some boundaries on not doing things that other people could/should be doing, rather than taking it all on yourself.  You deserve the time and space to rest up and get better, and the people in your life deserve your respect & trust that they can function on their own (even if that means goofing up and handling the consequences themselves!)

Hi Busy Bees & Pro Buddies! :)

My home computer is still down, so I am checking in on my work computer today & tomorrow, before being away for a week.

I'm glad to see things are still carrying on here :)

CI - gym, treadmill, work, printed out more info for trip, finishing projects in the office, paid bills.

Rest of day: work, more projects, buy phone minutes card, then my support group's annual party. Maybe meet with sponsor (not sure)?

Have a great day, everyone :)

Journey 9:30

Good morning!  Kept my grandson Saturday night/Sunday morning so I was busy doing kid stuff and mother's day stuff all weekend.  It was nice, although I didn't get a lot of work accomplished.  had a lot of family time though, which is equally if not more important.

I'm "on call" starting tomorrow so I will be busy at work with weekly changes and trouble tickets.   Today will probably be the only day I can make real progress on my projects this week.

So far today, I've been to the gym, made my todo list, set my MITs, and scanned email for important stuff.

Now, I'm going to get a cup of coffee, straighten my desk, and figure out how to change some IP addresses on some servers.  I'm postponing detailed email reading and processing until later since there doesn't seem to be anything important in there.  I want to get these things done by 10:30, when I have a quick meeting.  Check back at 11:00.

Have a great day!

First tasks done without ANY procrastionation.  Yea!

I have toastmaster's at noon, so I'm going to have a piece of fruit before I go.  I have time to do one more quick task before the meeting, so off I go.  Check back at oneish to bookend a short lunch break, then back to work.

I feeling rather efficient and organized today . . . I like days like this . . .

Journey 3:15

As usual, had some trouble getting back "into" work after lunch, but got past that. I'm wiaiting for someone else on the IP thingy, so I did some research into an ongoing problem that I'll be taking over tomorrow.

Now, do some change planning stuff.  back 4:30

set MITs for this morning before mtg at 9:30 (in 3 min :)
Transition wall was lower. Feel like i'm running on the high from yesterday's fight.
So i did my MITs this morning.

c ci 10:45am

ok, then. mtg done. Now time to avoid transition and start fiddling--no wait! Oh, that's right, set my MITs. brb.

clem, you're the comedian today!

Does anyone here remember Clem Cadiddlehopper?

c ci 1:40pm/2:45/3:35/3:50

I'm in a lighthearted mood today, jo.

Dont remember clem cadiddlehopper :/

I never set those MITs. Rather i found one and did it, and it took longer than i thought. But the light fixture was crackling, so i guess that was important.

NOW to set those MITs...

-------------------------------------------------------
[edit 2:45pm]:

hmmm an hour to set MITs.
that sounds bad, but that's because there were a lot of grains of sand to line up in my hourglass :) I think most previous days of my life i would have taken the rest of the day off. Now i have a chance to make a dent in my overwhelming list.

Now to figure out which MITs i'm going to work on next, what order, etc. This process is taking too long, but it's the only thing i know that works at the moment.

-------------------------------------------------------
[edit 3:35pm]:

i prioritized my MITs and started on one. Also 2 interruptions happened. Back to selecting an executing MITs.

-------------------------------------------------------
[edit 3:50pm]:
knocked a couple more off the list.
Now the work one.

clement kept going and didn't leave

That's so great! Despite your difficulting in setting your Most Important Tasks, you plodded along. So what if it took you a while? As journey said, taking this step helps in the long run, even though it seems too time-consuming.

Congratulations for keeping going, regardless of how "plodding" it might have felt. You didn't give up and take the rest of the day off. You kept going!

thanks, mov

i appreciate the compliment. It makes me feel better about it all. More encouraged to do it again tomorrow. One day at a time, huh?

In AA do they talk about how many days sober they are? Since it's one day at a time?

counting the days

Yep, it is very common to count the days, celebrate anniversaries of abstinence or sobriety, etc. in most 12 step programs. In fact, some meetings give out 'chips' to celebrate days: 1 day,  1 week, 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year and annual anniversaries. I have friends in other program with upwards of 30 years of abstinence.  The fellowship of seeing someone who keeps going to meetings and working the program one day at a time despite all their abstinence helps me to realize that these are not problems that go away: you have to work it. But really, the only day that counts is today.

clem taking the time to set MITs

clem said: "Now to figure out which MITs i'm going to work on next, what order, etc. This process is taking too long, but it's the only thing i know that works at the moment."

It takes some time to organize your thoughts and plans for the day.  It's very tempting to skip this step because it seems like a waste of time when there is so much to do.  I'm finding that this is time well spent though, and if it takes an hour a day, so be it.  Maybe some people can get themselves together in a shorter period of time, but I know for me it takes some time and energy to calm and focus my easily distractible mind and get it to work on the things I want it to.

Jo

I'm reading: The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan.  don't read it if you like to drink sodas and eat processed food.

thanks, jo

yep, it feels like a waste of time. Good to know you're in a similar situation. It's encouraging.

I have to keep thinking--1 hr to set MITs--it's better than the alternative, which is getting none of them done.

Yesterday i was right--i WAS overwhelmed. i DIDNT have enuf time to get everything done. But i DID get half done, instead of getting overwhelmed, getting distracted, and getting zero done.

The other thing i realized, is that usually it does not take 1 hr. Sometimes just 5 mine.

thanks, jo, for the encouragement.

e's back from vacation ci

Hello and Hugs to everyone, old and new
I missed you all!

Today: photo organization
stamps
mail stuff
money
dinner
shopping

There is a gasoline strike on and for the current moment, I am loving it. There is NO noise, no honking, no trafic, the air smells sweet. Of course, when the food is not in the store, it will be a different story, but for right now, I wish it was always this way. I am guessing I will feel another way about it soon, though.....

glad you are back! :)

Hi E!

I'm glad you are back! :)

See you around! :)

e's checkback

making some headway on the photo organization and have found something that will help (gotta love the net).

However, I feel like my head has been run over by a cotton mill, so I don't know how long I am going to last today.

next: to lunch, check at the kiosk for stuff, health receipts...
