IRC?

Is this chat box available via an IRC server?

This chat box is located here within this website

Hello ipedro.

This chat box is located here within this website.  You don't need any software or an IRC client.  Just click on the word "chatbox" at the top of this screen, and you're in.  (you may need to enable java on your browser).

This is a new chatbox that our leader installed fairly recently.  Our leader spent countless days getting everything installed.  We are very happy with it.  We spent several weeks discussing various chatrooms, and chose this option.

The check-in box is for people wanting to bookend tasks or work on tasks simultaneously in support of one another.  You can also just type your thoughts as you work, even if you are alone in there -- several of us do that as a way to plan our tasks.   The check-in box is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The other tab is for meetings.  We currently have just the one weekly 12-step meeting scheduled, as listed at top of this thread.   Perhaps more meetings will be added later on, if there is enough interest.

So we have a chatbox with two tabs on the top of it ... connecting to two adjacent chatrooms.

You can click on it now to check it out.  (Just click on the word chatbox at top of the screen).  There are two tabs at the top of the box.

This thread is for announcements of the 12-Step meetings.

If you have questions about software, that would go in the off-topic forum, I suppose.

chat requires JavaScript, not Java (and no setting changes)

Some small corrections... The chatbox uses JavaScript, not Java. Those are two different things. Every modern browser supports JavaScript and enables it by default, so the only people who would have to change a browser setting are those who are knowledgeable enough to have switched off the default in the first place.

In short, if this discussion confuses you, just put it out of your mind. You don't have to change a thing.

Thanks for acknowledging all the work that went into the chatbox. :)

Thanks for the

Thanks for the clarification. What I was looking for was to be able to have this chatbox open in my chat application. Many website enabled chat rooms are also available via IRC which is why I was asking.

I'll try to keep the browser window open but I am afterall an obsessive compulsive and like to keep my desktop tidy.

not IRC

This chat doesn't use IRC - it's a standalone app. I use one tab of the browser window for the chat, and another tab for the rest of the site.

My two cents... If you are chatting on so many different sites at once that you want them all to use IRC, then you are chatting too much! :)
