Most of the day was spent traveling to interview/interviewing (this is my second-to-last interview, thank goodness!) I've managed to squeeze in a little work, and there are some things I want to finish up now: *Revise spanish composition (just need to fix a few errors and email it off) DONE *Read about profs I'll be interviewing with tomorrow *Read paper for problem set DONE *Make diagram for problem set DONE *Finish problem set problem 1 DONE *Read paper about test data set
I had a nice dinner. I suppose I should wash the dishes now. I feel more like reading the paper, which I haven't gotten to yet. Maybe I'll wash the dishes and then read the paper.
I forgot to turn on the radio at 4pm for "This American Life". I put it in Outlook so I'll remember next week. I need reminders for everything.
I haven't done any work on my pile yet, which isn't good. I don't have to spend all evening at it, but I should at least spend 30 minutes. A little a day will make it go away. Doing nothing on it and it will stay forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procrastination is the grave in which opportunity is buried.
A lot of the NPR and PRI shows are available as free podcasts now, including This American Life, Fresh Air, and Wait Wait. You can play them with itunes, or download them to your mp3 player. A couple of others can be played on your computer with realplayer, although they can't be downloaded - Prairie Home Companion, and Infinite Mind.
I keep the podcasts on my mp3 player. 1G mp3 players (not IPOD) can be had for ~$25.00 now. Creative and Sandisk are good cheap brands, I've had both, although Creative is my favorite.
I've been pretty efficient today, though of course I'm not getting as much done as I want to get done. After I post this I'm going to make some food - I'm hungry.
Done:
♦ Cut up veggies for dehydrator (I love crunchy sweet onions and zucchini as snacks - beats potato ships by a mile, and much healthier). ♦ Laid out pills for day and took first dose. ♦ Made and ate breakfast. ♦ Showered and dressed. ♦ Got fitness evaluation at gym and did half hour cardio workout (!). ♦ Wash dishes. ♦ Wash radishes and cauliflower. ♦ Clear spam folder. ♦ Find list of people interested in NYC meeting and contact them.
To Do:
♦ Work on pile (hopefully get through it). ♦ Blanche almonds. ♦ Read New York Times. ♦ Go through magazine pile and toss stuff. ♦ Dust and vacuum. ♦ Clean sink, tub, and toilet. ♦ Clean air conditioner and filter. ♦ Water plants.
Let's see, what have I done so far this morning...
Edge, thanks for the thread starter! I do feel a little like that critter today, only my slippers aren't as cute.
Some things to do next:
Eat lunch
Spend 10 minutes scrubbing the bathtub. I've been putting it off for ages because I have it in my head that it's going to take forever to do. So I'm just putting in 10 minutes. That can't kill me, right?
Take a shower
Tint hair
Spend 10 minutes cleaning moldy things out of the fridge. Yes, self, I know you hate doing that, but you can survive it for 10 minutes. Really.
I'm afraid my tub is wa-a-a-ay beyond the stage where anything mild will do it -- I not only need harsh chemicals, I need one of those electric steel-wool scrubbers that they use for stripping varnish off of floors. I'm not even gonna say how long the gunk has been building up -- I think the bottom layers may date back to the pleistocene era, but won't know till the carbon-dating results are in.
But I did get my 10 minutes done, and was even inspired to do another 10 minutes. It needs a lot more, but at least I'm starting to see the surface of the tub.
And I did my 10 minutes of fridge cleaning and wrestled all the moldy science projects out. I still need to wipe down the shelves, but that's o.k. -- I got the icky part done!
Both of those tasks are procrastination loops for me -- I put them off, so by the time I do them things are really nasty, so they are really unpleasant to do, so I have negative associations with them, so I put them off. . .
But at least my hair came out nice!
Might not get to the groceries, but that's o.k. I'll still take a walk before getting together with my friend this evening. Nice to have daylight in the evening again!
Believe it or not, the best time to clean the bathtub is while you're in it! Of course, don't use harsh cleaners. You'd be surprised how well baby shampoo cleans the tub. Otherwise, baking soda works great and nothing to harm your precious body!
Once upon a time, when I had teenagers at home, the tub was one of the things that didn't get cleaned often enough. When we were on vacation, a friend of my son's "ran away from home" and stayed in our house while we were gone. I later found out that my son actually knew about it the whole time. The police were looking for this kid any everything.
Anyway, the point of this story is . . . this 15-year old boy cleaned the bathtub. My bathtub wasn't even clean enough for a runaway juvenile delinquent.
It's better these days lol.
Jo.
Whoa, it's pretty empty around here this morning! the time change must have everyone off schedule. I wish they wouldn't mess with the f**king time. Just pick one and stick with it for pity's sake. And, being a computer person, I hate what it does to some of our ancient mainframe applications. I'm glad it's not my week to be on call!
Anyway, yesterday was not the most productive day in the world for me, but not bad. I got a late start since I didn't get up and get out of the house for yoga and I *faffed* around for several hours before I really got motivated.
Today has been better - I'm using my timer 15+15 and getting a good bit done. If the kids don't come over for dinner because of the race, I'm in real danger of running out of stuff to do :) I'm kidding somewhat but I am secretly terrified of not having anything to do - even my beloved computer games aren't that much fun if I don't have anything else to do. I think that's one reason for my procrastination - I don't like the feeling of not being needed or having something important to work on . . . ho! this may be a revelation . . . does anyone else feel this way?!
I'm enjoying putting my list in todoist and checking off the little boxes so I won't reproduce my list here, but so far today I have bathed one of the dogs because she was itchy, cleaned the toilets, mopped the big bathroom floor, and started on chili for this evening's dinner. I'm still making dinnners ahead for the week with dd's help. It's working out great and not as much work as I thought it would be. Just takes some planning.
Next up, finish the bathrooms.
Jo
PS for the unenlightened, the Race is the NASCAR race, it's in Atlanta this weekend. The racetrack is only a few miles from my house, so traffic will be slammed. This is why the kids will probably not attempt to come over. Also, they are race fans, a passion which I do not share. If I want to see cars go around in a circle for hours I can just drive to my office.
bathrooms and some laundry done, baked ziti for next week is started, and I'm about to vacuum the bedroom. I was thinking about getting rid of my old monitor which is just taking up space on my desk, but I think I'll work on my dresser instead. It's pretty much piled with stuff that needs to be gone through and put away.
