New Year's Resolutions?

Do you guys make New Year's Resolutions?

I don't usually, it seems sort of artificial and I never really stick to them, but this year I think I might make a real one.

I am making a resolution to do more realistic planning.  I always plan to do more than I can really do, and the urgent things always take precedence over the important but non-urgent things.  If I plan more realistically, and put in time for rest and recreation, maybe I can make time for those important tasks that I never seem to get around to.

This is in addition to the one resolution I make every year:  to drive within the posted speed limit.  I used to get more than my share of "fast driving awards".

Journey

i'm stealing your new year's resolution!

Hmm, Journey, I really like your resolution to do more realistic planning. That's a much better idea than my usual goals that are too big, unrealistic, and just end up making me feel guilty.  A resolution to be reasonable.  That's great.

realistic planning

You are more than welcome to join me in this endeavor in the coming year!

New Year vs. Year's End

Lots of people focus on the whole "new year" aspect of the calendar change, but in recent years I've been treating it more as "year's end" -- a time to look back and think about all that happened in the year, good and bad.  With that review and some thought, you can build goals and resolutions based on where you are rather than where you want to be.

Last year, I read "Your Beat Year Yet" by Jinny Ditzler and made a list of goals.  I definitely got some things done in 2007 that wouldn't have happened without that list.  There is an online version of the 10 questions from the book at beatyearyet.com, but I liked having the more in-depth treatment from the book.

I haven't started my Best Year Yet stuff for this year, but I'll probably get started next week.

Best Year Yet

flexiblewrote "Your Beat Year Yet" and "beatyearyet.com".

Smiling at this.  Did the year 2007 beat you up?  Or did you start writing poetry in the style of the "Beat Generation"?

I realize this is a typo, and it's okay to be imperfect.  I think I waste way too much time with my perfectionism!

I think you meant BEST year yet ?

Anyhow for those who are curious, the programme and book for "BEST year yet" are described here:
