marcelor Friday

Here is my plan:

Goals for each of next five days is to add 3000 words + tighten up one chapter. Today I start with chapter 4 which is the least developed.

The above is a reasonable goal given where I am, and will give me an acceptable (OK!) position to be in before my call next week. Then I will have another week for further improvements before submitting. Finally, I will have ten days to prepare for meeting, e.g. reading and preparing a note on next steps.

Today: go from 50 115 to 53 115 plus put chapter 4 in reasonable shape.

I can do this!

Man. The beginning of this week was *great*, and then I've just been lazy the past couple days...not picking stuff to work on, so I just stare at the internet.

Will, I have 4 tasks for the rest of the afteroon:
*Check, type Mvh
*1 hr CLIP
*Update lit searches, go thru 100 papers
*lab mtg outline

Still want to add to powerpoint for presentation. I want some practice and make flash cards.

Find a partner for 466 after lecture.

Class from 9 to 6 with a half hour break.

Break for food. Eat fast and eat a lot.

Finish 466 after class. It's not that hard. Just confusing and time consuming.

I can go to bed late today. Goal is between 10 and midnight.

Happy Valentine Jalla and all PAers. Today is a good day to give ourselves self compassion:

Myth: Self-criticism is an effective motivator.

Fact: There’s actually nothing motivating about
criticizing yourself, Neff said, because it makes you fear failure and
lose faith in yourself. Even if you do achieve great things, you’re
often miserable, anyway.

It’s interesting that in other areas of our lives we understand that being harsh doesn’t work. Take the example of parenting.
Decades ago, we thought that harsh punishment and criticism were
effective in keeping kids in line and helping them do well, Neff said.

However, today, we know that being a supportive and encouraging
parent is more beneficial. (When you’re told you’re a failure, the last
thing you think you’re capable of is succeeding, or even trying.)

Self-compassion acts like a nurturing parent, she said. So even when
you don’t do well, you’re still supportive and accepting of
yourself. Like a kind parent, your support and love are unconditional,
and you realize that it’s perfectly OK to be imperfect.

This doesn’t mean being complacent. Self-criticism tears us down; it
presumes that “I am bad.” Self-compassion, however, focuses on changing
the behavior that’s making you unhealthy or unhappy, Neff said.
