Tabula Rasa - WordPress Site

This is the most complicated wordpress customization, configuration and install I have ever done, so I was experiencing some major demand resistance with it. Breaking through most of that--had a client call that was nearly two hours and getting close to what they wanted.

Lessons So Far:

  1. Not asking for a change order when they changed the scope of work made me more likely to procrastinate on the project. I was feeling resentful that they weren't paying me more, but I didn't provide an updated quote. I used it as an excuse to procrastinate.

Next Steps:

  1. Research multi-site installation
  2. Do multi site installation
  3. Figure out why new sub domain isn't working
  4. Purchase new URL (Unless they have their current host do it).
  5. Upload new logos when received from designer
  6. Find notes from old calls (SUPER IMPORTANT!)
  7. Review old notes and make changes that still apply
  8. Delete content from page A.
  9. Add content to page B.
  10. Configure galleries according to scans.
  11. Configure newsletter
  12. Add "subscribe" button to website.
  13. Send best practices doc as I promised.
  14. Move site to new server (Possibly outsourcing this step. The database is getting a bit unweildy. If I get stuck I will ask for help immediately. No more stalling.
  15. Send final invoice.

Steps 1-10 will be completed by Monday, 12/3. I am already 20% there!

The client fired me

So I won't be updating this project any longer. I am at peace with it--I apologized and didn't burn any bridges. I am not going to give any excuses here.

I was honestly relieved.  There's more to explore about my tendency to procrastinate on things I don't want to do or I am afraid that I can't do well.

It's good to experience consequences. :-)

Sometimes you have to laugh

Well, I finally powered through the demand resistance and worked an hour on this project yesterday. Went to run some errands, came back, and promptly spilled hot chococolate all over my laptop. ::jawdrop::

So I tried to just wipe it up and keep working (stupid), until half my keyboard stopped working. Unplugged and inverted it to dry and signed off for the night. So far so good today.

Wow... hello demand resistance. I allowed some distractions to get me unfocused this weekend and did basically nothing on this project. Here again freaking out. Small steps...deep breaths. I can do this.

I keep wanting just to stop and watch some tv or have a carb-heavy snack. So funny how blatantly obvious my stall tactics/comforting behaviors are today. I am being silly! No judgement. Just notice. When I notice the behavior it is easier to overcome.

Next Steps:

  1. Research multi-site installation
  2. Do multi site installation
  3. Figure out why new sub domain isn't working The DNS just hadn't updated. Duh!!
  4. Purchase new URL (Unless they have their current host do it).
  5. Upload new logos when received from designer
  6. Find notes from old calls (SUPER IMPORTANT!)  Couldn't find 'em. Moving forward.
  7. Review old notes and make changes that still apply  N/A
  8. Delete content from page A.
  9. Add content to page B.
  10. Configure galleries according to scans.
  11. Configure newsletter
  12. Add "subscribe" button to website.
  13. Send best practices doc as I promised.

Lesson #2

Don't reply and say something is perfect unless you have actually opened the file to look at it. This is an assumption. Just because the designer says that the logo is fully vectorized doesn't mean it is. Trust, but verify.

Well done!

Wow, 20% on the first day! That's awesome. Laughing

Thanks!

When I broke it down into steps it became less overwhelming.
