Monday, 18 December 2006

Since I'm still up (appallingly), I may as well start the day thread for Monday.

Good morning, everyone! I hope you went to bed earlier than I did, and will be getting up early for a good start on work.

jj's 10:45 pm CI

I feel lonely on here at this time of night - most of you must live out east!

I'm trying something new here - edit previous list, copy it, add comment, paste list here. Hope it works. Thanks pro and scarlett for advice.

Done:
up at 8:00 (instead of 7:20)
wash, brush, get dressed
eat breakfast and get lunch together
leave for work 8:50
work 9:30 - 5
phone glass repair to see if window scratches could be fixed (NO)
phone window cleaners to book appointment to view damage (delayed until New Year)
CI here (afternoon)
buy food for staff xmas party & other groceries
unload and put away groceries
eat supper & wash dishes with R
bath, wash face
check e-mail
evening CI

To do before bed:
add notes to book discussion on "Procrastination" here
brush teeth
read

Leftovers:
select and wrap white elephant xmas gift

Today I'm thankful for: co-workers that I can share a laugh with, customers who express their appreciation with boxes of chocolate! (I don't believe I'd think of doing that for someone in my position, so it seems very thoughtful and kind to me)

scarlett CI 11:55 pm

Telling on myself - been reading blogs for the last hour.

Okay, now, REALLY going to scoop the pan, take a shower, and go to bed.

some days are better than others

Hi scarlett,

Some days can be quiet hard.
Reading time binging might be useful as it shows how to still do
a bit of work when things are really tough.

Hope today will be better for you. :)

Thanks.

Trying to be patient with myself. It's really tough.

pro's last check-in - 11pm

I'm ready for bed. Now I just have to go to bed. :P

Finding and applying for five jobs a day is so time consuming that it's hard to get anything else done. But I'm scared to slow down on this because my financial situation is so dire. I really need a job.

That said, at some point I need to pay attention to my mail pile and back accounting.

I didn't take my morning pills yet. Bad. Taking them now...

Thomas C.--more check-in

So, I made four phone calls.

The heating and air estimate was easy, and the eye appointment was also easy. The IRS call was hard, partly b/c the guy was obnoxious to me, but informative, and partly because I was on hold forever. Talking to our tax person was a lot easier than I expected.

Now it's on to grading exams. I DON'T WANT TO DO IT!

I've avoided grading for a year, now, and am SO glad. But my grader did most of them--I am only doing six or so, which are make-ups. So why am I whining? Because even six is an odious task.

But brief, so I can do it.

I am grateful for this site, so I can talk about what I'm avoiding. Makes it easier to deal with and to do.

Here goes grading.

Last night I forgot to include in my last CI what I was thankful for, which I'm going to try to do each day. So, yesterday I was thankful for the peace and quiet I can enjoy in my home.

Monica's picture

Monica CI - Evening todos

It's not much but it's something. I'm so low tonight that I'm only willing to commit to 6 things this evening:

[ ]Pick up Son from homework club
[ ]Spray the shower
[ ]Set out my mouthwash
[ ]Set alarm for 5am
[ ]Posting my BE on the forum by 9pm
[ ]Get in bed between 9:30pm - 10:00pm

If I can get out of this funk, I may:

[ ]Bake cookies with the family
[ ]Cook dinner
[ ]Pick up my room

feeling low - but still "doing"

Monica, I've been struggling with depression, too. I'm pushing through it, and it helps. You're doing great - keep doing what you're doing!!

Monica's picture

Monica's BE - Evening tadas

I didn't cook dinner and I didn't pick up my room. But I did make this list and, most of all, I do feel better. I think I am inspired to try again tomorrow. Here are the results for tonight:
[x]Pick up Son from homework club
[x]Spray the shower
[x]Set out my mouthwash
[x]Set alarm for 5am
[x]Posting my BE on the forum by 9pm (I'm 45 min. late put it's up)
[x]Bake cookies with the family
[o]Cook dinner
[o]Pick up my room
[x]Get in bed between 9:30pm - 10:00pm (off to bed now, Goodnight)

Like your CI list

Hi. I really like the way you structured your To Do list, with the brackets. I'm going to try the same method with my written lists. Thanks for the new idea.

re:Like your CI list

Thanks. Glad it helps. I wish I could take credit for it, but I found it a few years back on another forum.

Way to go!

Good job, Monica. Glad you're feeling better and hope to see you around tomorrow.

Thomas C.--mid-day check-in

I'm at the point of making those phone calls. One is fine; no emotional issues. One is not fine--it's the IRS. And one is to our tax person, and that's the worst one of all.

So...I've been playing Mini-Putt (no, I'm not providing the URL!), and getting my score down to 24 on an 18-hole course. What a great accomplishment, eh? Taxes go undealt with, but I'm getting really, really good at online miniature golf.

We made a mistake, and underreported something, and they caught us on it. It wasn't tax fraud; it was being poorly organized (no surprise there for a procrastinator). We just didn't know to send something in, because we didn't keep everything together. And it was having to do with buying a house, and we were first-time home buyers.

The IRS is usually pretty good about payment plans, and I want one. So I'll call. It's for the 2004 tax year.

But I've been seriously procrastinating on our 2005 taxes; they've been extended by our tax person TWICE this year. I'm embarrassed even to call her. But it gets worse every day...so I'm calling right now.

doitnow - 1:35pm PST today's "binge"

It's been said that binging is bad. But I've also heard that one of the possible methods of fighting procrastination is to pick a important task that you are avoiding, and CONQUER it single-mindedly. That's what I want to do today with a very important project at work. My career depends on it. I'd like to spend 8 hours working on it with no distractions except for a meal break 4 hours into the "binge" (not counting towards the 8 hours). I've written down how much progress I'd like to make in a local file.

I'll check in after work.

so.....?

How did your experiment go? Inquiring minds want to know! }:)

I worked for about 1 hour,

I worked for about 1 hour, then there was an surprise meeting that lasted 1.5-2 hours and was exhausting [*] (but mostly a waste of time for me) I worked a bit more and took a break for food and coffee (I needed it after the meeting). Then I worked some more and went home (I have a flexible schedule, unfortunately :( ) I've put in a total of 4:13 so far, including the meeting.

I plan to work another 3:47 on my laptop at home today (I'm on Pacific time). Will check in again later today.

Next: licenses - reconcile what I've got with what's missing and send out reminders. (30 minutes)

I'm kind of digging this one-thing-at-a-time strategy.

I am going home now. Need to sleep. Feel really tired, I 'll need to be careful ( coffee).
Need first to drive to a frien to cheer her up( I'll really never understand what benefits some people get at being nasty to her).

Good bye and good night to all.

Good morning, all. Seems I'm not the only one having problems getting going this morning. Here's my list:

- make calls
- grade make-up exams, submit grades to registrar
- prepare for phone interview Wednesday (type up)

- prepare application to "Human Subjects" office (for research)

That should keep me busy for the day, especially the last one.

I'm still working on scraping the Tao Te Ching translation from the Web site. I've done 10 of the 81 chapters. I can't spend all day doing this. I can do one or two during breaks, but right now I need to get to work.

My plan for today (and every day until these two issues are resolved) is to apply for my five jobs per day, and then use the rest of the day to work on my back accounting.

iwant2workharder - duplicate day threads

iwant2workharder - I posted a day starter last night, and then you started a new one when you logged in this morning. I went into the database, moved the messages over to the original starter message, and then deleted the duplicate.

When you log in, please look to see if someone has already started a day thread before starting a new one. This happened yesterday, too. Thanks.

Pro- I am really really sorry. Why archive shows sunday wrong?

Pro,

I am really really sorry : I did check but didn't see any new
threads for monday. I guess I am not completely awake in the morning.

Please forgive me Pro.

There must be something strange : when clicking on archive sunday the 17th, one gets the same page as monday the 18th. What is taking place?

Sunday link

I know it's easy to miss that someone already started a thread - just try to look.

I don't see a problem with the Sunday link. When I click on the link in the "Active forum topics" list, I get the right thread. Are you clicking on a link somewhere else?

Lark"s 9:46 am CI

Good morning. Nice weather here, so I'm intending some outside work once inside is done.
Ta Da:
1 Morning routine
To Do:
1.Clean and inspect first project, make sure it's ready
2.Do what I can to the next one, and then take it to someone else
3.Pick second one up, and finish it.
4.Do finances
5.Take money to storage place
6.Pick up cough medicine
7.Call both clients, give bills, and arrange for them to get their stuff
8.Go shopping tonight when/if everything is done.

Tiring day. Found a few glitches in my projects, and took care of most of them. Will finish tomorrow very quickly. Everyone I dealt with today seemed to be in slow motion. Apart from shopping tonight, I hit everything else, and decided not to go (late). See everyone tomorrow.

The meeting preparation is going ahead. :)
Few things to fix and I can call it - hopefully
for the end of the week!!!!

I am realising that by procrastinating,
I have just let a lot of things accumulate
again! This is a bit stupid as 2 weeks ago
I was doing quiet well and getting on top
of things. Now just have to restart from
scratch. grrrrr.

About resigning from my present job: I will
put this off and may be give myself the whole of 2007
to think again about it. It seems that I have not fully
assessed the negative points of working freelance.
My main motivation was to be able to work less,
have less stress and earn more:
it seems that freelance is more work ,....
I need to find out more about it.

Last steps of meeting.

To Do
- IT meeting to prepare : 26 steps
- sites 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 ( new one but not completely
good as they have a heavy discount- I really need
to talk again to the sales guy)
