Self-Handicapping and Procrastination

The basic idea is that we don't want to know the true limits of our capabilities, so we procrastinate so we have an excuse in case we fail.

 

Self-handicapping

It reminds me of the Demotivator, 'The harder you try, the dumber you look.' It might be fair to say that learning our limitations is a phobia that inspires the defence mechanisms of shutting down, giving up, and other forms of self-sabotage.
