Procrastinators Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from chronic procrastination.
Checking in really late because I have been kind of stalled today. I had to drive about 45 minutes to meet with a client this afternoon, then return to the office, and have not been able to get back on track since getting back at 2:30 PM. I am here physically but mentally absent. In part it's because I was rushing the last few days to finish the work (one of my big overdue projects) to be discussed with the client today, so I have my usual post-performance letdown wherein I don't want to do anything. This is a problem because even though I have finished another big overdue project, henceforth designated "bop", I still have 3 more bops to work on, plus my usual load of current work which is always becoming overdue as I fail to (flail to?) keep up.
I have also been obsessing today over my difficulty connecting with anyone, in large part due to the isolated workcentric lifestyle I have developed. Living in a not-quite-divorced twilight, ambivalent and uneasy about developing a post-marriage social milieu, I find myself thinking about old friends from my past, pre-marriage, when I presumably led a reasonably social life. But this bit of navel-gazing only adds to my procrastination, which in turn adds to my aforementioned work submersion or, more accurately, workplace submersion, just kind of soaking and sulking alone and not getting much done. Okay, let's try to eke out a couple of hours' worth of productivity.
Goal 1: Work for a timed 30 minutes on some slightly overdue work (7:45-8:15)
Goal 2: Take a timed 10 minute break, working on something for myself other than mindless surfing (8:15-8:30)
Goal 3: Work for 30 minutes (8:30-9:00)
Goal 4: Take another timed 10 minute break, again with the goal of chipping away at something of personal interest (9:00-9:10)
Goal 5: Work for 30 minutes (9:10-9:40)
Goal 6: Leave work at 9:40
Goal 7: Do something for myself at home
Goal 8: To bed by 11:30 PM, so I can come to work early tomorrow and put in a better effort.
Back to report.
Well, very glad to report that yesterday was one of my better work days and I can at last see that it is possible to finish my overdue project M. It used to be that I would have stayed up very late or even all night to finish at this stage, but something has changed, whether for better or worse and I can't seem to stay up late to finish things any more. Maybe just getting too old and tired!
Instead I have rescheduled my office day (where I'll be working on a different project) to tomorrow and hope, hope, hope to finish M today. For this to happen I must work consistently again. Praying for the strength to do that.
I am shelving a lot of small stuff but trying to trust that I will get back to that later.
Today has been alright. Went to work after having slept 3 hours because my biketire has gone flat, and I tried fixing it all and didn't succeed. Why am I so stuborn sometimes? Well, I did fine at work, but I had to catch up on some sleep afterwards, and I had to skip piano practice. Not good, but organ practice is going ok, which is important as my lesson is tomorrow. I'll practice one more piece, and them I'm done for today. In general, it's going ok right now, so I'll try not to be too hard on myself.
I'm going to use this post as a place to figure out what I MUST do today, versus what I'd like to do (or already have done) in a hypothetical ideal universe.
OK, here goes:
Done:
brush teeth, splint
spray throat and sinuses
eat something before 13:30 appointment (preferably by 11:30)
submit timecard
make sure what I wear to 13:30 appointment isn't stinky
shower, wash hair, etc
aim to be ready to leave soon enough to be on time for 13:30 appointment
13:30 appointment
research ETA for next LMcMB book
In Progress:
P.A. ck-in, bookending, make choices
job work: make progress incorporating S cts
practice having an appropriate part of myself leading the V
use balancer! (did a bunch at chiropractor appointment)
Must Do: (all must do's for today are done)
Fully Intend to Do:
15 min. Qi Gong
10 min. clearout
Prefer to Do:
get enough done to have a feeling of good accomplishment!
make & eat ginger-garlic-miso-tofu soup & microwaved yam w/ peanut garnish
update clearout goal here at P.A.
Should Do:
load & run dishwasher
pay cell phone bill
Some Options that Move in the Direction of a Better Future:
practice Shiva Nata?
journal: when/how ping KBF?
journal: if Rally, for what?
journal: how might regress to the mean phenomenon relate to procrastination struggles/habits?
do some skimming in library book?
Some Pleasant Options for Later:
read in apa w/ pencil handy?
make progress on getting corrected list of Tai Chi form movements to useful format?

Working from home today after a long weekend . . .danger zone! So far doing ok, I have read email, exercised, made todo list and had a healthy breakfast. I've been eating lots of junk food the past few days and used 'birthday week' as an excuse but that excuse is worn out - time to get back on track with eating healthily.
I'll post my todo list here since that really helps me stay on track when working from home. In the back of my mind, I considered not posting it . . .but that is the addiction talking, here goes.
Plan
