Findingaway check in

10.15 am Tuesday

Thanks for the inspiring starter, vic.

Not a really early start but have already done meditation, bike ride, put on a load of washing and dealt with some distractions from my husband, lol.

My lists are made; ready to start with an hour of billable work.

So . .. I got all my tasks done yesterday! I just didn't update them. Unfortunately my draft is not as long as it should be, but it is infinitely more than there was. I am going to have a very busy break though.

Going to come back later with a check in list, gotta go to my last lab!

Good weekend, now letdown

Yesterday worked out quite well for me on the progress front. Didn't get everything done I wanted, but did some work in every category: case work, financial forms, even some continuing education, and phone calls with my kids and parents. Didn't leave early, in the end, but was pretty satisfied with the weekend, such as it was. No recreation per se, but alleviating some anxiety of pending work is like a breather.

Today having a hard time getting started, as often happens to me. Have to keep the momentum going, if possible.

Goal 1: Work on cases in 15 minute increments, with breaks for lunch and dinner, and short breaks in between

Goal 2: Work on financial forms maybe 4 to 6 PM. Leaving it for after work creates too much pressure, and it is likely not to get done.

Goal 3: Leave at 8:15 PM. A 12 hour day is plenty.

Goal 4: Here's a hard one: no work on anything after 8:15 PM. This is a new one for me. I often have unscheduled periods or days when I just can't bring myself to work on things here or at home, but it is always with guilt and worry about what is hanging over me. I want to try to teach myself (actually re-teach; I wasn't always a workaholic or, more accurately and less effectively, "lots-of-time-AT-workaholic") to schedule down time. I expect it will be like everything else, an ongoing process.

Back to report.

Bravo!!!Hurray!!!Yes!!!Thank you HP!!!

Thanks Vic!

Appreciate the positive thoughts.

This is something I've realised I need to work on too.  While at my Quaker meeting on Sunday, I found myself thinking about the story of God creating the world in 6 days and on the seventh he rested.  If resting was good enough for God, then it's good enough for me!  But I do a seriously big guilt trip over not getting things done.....

Thanks Hypatia!

Yes, for me the guilt is what eats away at unscheduled 'breaks', keeping them from being truly restful. Maybe scheduled breaks will make a difference, if i can look at them as a responsibility (to myself), rather than a lack therof.

hope4meandu day 7 here; day 7 at work

Thanks vic for inspiring starter!!! Just what I needed today!!! :)

Did nothing but minimun this past weekend, trying to get better. Am so zonked still and exhausted, in spite of the rest. Was supposed to meet with friend tonight, but will re-schedule. Because I'm out of my routine, I fear I will start procrastinating again.

Think it's only fair to Yoffee to find Goldie Smurf new home, praying for miracle, for Goldie Smurf to "take in" and understand my Yoffee. So not fair to her. She's been coughing way too much and I fear it's because of GS.

-call North Shore Animal League about Yoffee & Goldie Smurf
-allergy shots for me
-order from GG
-order TS & glucosimine & toothpaste from PetRx for Yoffee
-pay $188. vet bill
-get Goldie's other window opened in his room
-Brian today?
-brush Yoffee every day
-food chart
-spending chart

Home:
-work out 10 minutes
-laundry

PRAYERS & BEST REGARDS!!

♥"Careful the wish we make, wishes are children. Careful the path they take, wishes come true..." From "Children Will Listen," by Stephen Sondheim.♥

Journey 10 am a dangerous day

I have permission to work from home because I'm still dogsitting - my daughter's friend's car broke down while they were on their little trip and Dad had to go rescue them yesterday.   So I'm stuck with the dog until Tuesday.

I'm on vacation the rest of the week - so I'm in vacation mode AND working from home.  This is a dangerous combo - I will probably spam you with updates.  Or I could work in the chatbox, but I am addicted to seeing my progress in updates on the forum Cool.

Update 3 pm - spent most of the day so far following up on minor issues over the weekend - well, I think they are minor but there is one issue the boss does not think is minor!   It's not even my (or my team's) problem but since I am 'on call' I am stuck tracking down people and answers for him.  Any, now I can tackle my own todo list.   I'm only working 3 or 4 more hours today so I will prioritize and figure out what I can get done this afternoon.

I retroactively made 2 items MITs since the boss asked for them today.  Is that cheating lol?  I think not, since I make the rules.  So 2 out of 4 MITs are complete.  On to MIT #3.

4:30 MIT #3 done and I'm on another longwinded phone call about this problem/issue - I have absolutely nothing to contribute but I guess I'm here to support the boss lol.

5:45 MIT #4 done.   All my MITS are done.  I did not get any of my project work done today, and when I come back from vacation I need to concentrate on finishing my two open projects and try to avoid getting sucked into unnecessary paperwork/meetings/doing boss's work for him.  But the critical stuff got done, and now I'm going to go walk the little dog and then make dinner.  And then . . .vacation!

The main task for today is to figure out a subletter for my apartment for the summer. I also need to do biology tutoring. So, I'm gong to be in and out of lab today.

That said, I want to get some stuff done. In particular, I want to:
*Do record-keeping (the Western blot notes are STILL not done and i've been promising this for days) (started)
*Check on expts
*Do PAS staining
*Do sectioning
*Embedding/histology submission
*Do Bradford/centrifugation/aliquoting

OK, I'll spend a little time on the record-keeping now, then will be back in lab around 2 or 3 to take care of the other stuff. I'll probably have to stay in lab late today, and that's OK.

Hypatia's check-in

Hi vic - thanks for the starter!

Monday morning and I really don't want to lose the effect of the good work I did last week.  But I've got a couple of reports that I'm really freezing on.  One of my staff is doing the reports on today's work, which frees up my afternoon.

  • shopping for food
  • urgent e-mail re MH
  • AR10b
  • find ASD files
  • urgent ASD report
  • request annual and study leave
  • clear overflowing in-tray

Got delayed by a member of staff coming in to see me and bursting into tears. Still managed to get quite a bit done so I'm reasonably happy.  But I'm being chased for a report from the begining of MarchFrown

Hypatia's evening check-in

I'm doing a bit better during the working day, but on coming home is another matter.

I've completely frozen on my big project, and for nearly three weeks have been ignoring the letter from the solicitor that needs a reply.  This is getting ridiculous!

Plan for this evening

  • re-read solicitors letter
  • ring builder
  • OU course work

Well i got them done the following day which wasn't bad!
