My employer blocks some forum threads

I've just changed employers and my new one has really heavy protection from "unsitable" sites.  It's refusing to let me access the Monday 21st March thread on the grounds of it being "offensive and tasteless".

Mind you, this is the same blocker that wouldn't let me access certain pages of the mandatory training program on Child Protection, because the page about Child Sexual Abuse had offensive content!  I jumped up and down until they sorted that one out, but I don't think I can do the same for PA.  I'm currently trying to think of an alternative strategy, but at the moment the only one I can think of is logging on before I go to work in the morning - and the chances of that are very low :(

 H.

so,can you still read Tuesday's thread?

The keywords that I was wondering about seem to be there now.

blocked

Yeah that's too bad but you probably don't wanna complain.
Just start your own thread like you did today, if you can get to the site, we'll understand!

(((Hypatia)))

Probably best if you dont let on you have a problem. Perhaps you could keep your checkin notes in a document and post your CI and achievements at home or even once a week at the weekends?

Yes, I'm definitely not

Yes, I'm definitely not going to let my employers know.  I have thought about checking in the previous night before I go to bed.  I'm on UK time (GMT until next weekend, when we go to British Summer Time).  I've always found it difficult to work out other countries' time, e.g. USA, in relationship to GMT.

What time do the days' threads typically start?

It may not be that frequent a problem anyway as it appears to relate to content of specific threads.  In which case I'll just keep my list on paper until I get home

H.

I'm on GMT time too. If

I'm on GMT time too. If no-one has started the daily thread for check-ins I start it myself before posting my own check in.

If that  is too much, dont worry  just wait to check-in in the evening instead.

The reason I was wondering

The reason I was wondering about thread start times is that if I wanted to start the next days thread the night before, would I actually be starting it too early for everyone, or will some people already be in my tomorrow (if you see what I mean)?

I think I'm complicating all this far too much - it's one of my causes of procrastination

Another comment on times

While I'm not as "far ahead" as findingaway, I often think about my to-do list thr night before as it sets my mind at ease as I go to sleep that I have an idea of what I will be doing the next day.

So I personally would love early check-in threads! Some other users do it too sometimes. Of course I should also be inspired to make my own threads too. . .but people make such cute starters, I like seeing different varieties :D

And good luck starting out PA Hypatia!

Also, I was thinking about how your employer only restricts SOME threads. . .could it be language? I really couldn't see ANYTHING offensive on Monday's thread, but maybe if we do our part and keep it clean it will help things.

ALSO! (ha i keep editing) If you poke around a little you may see that other people don't use the daily threads but make their own thread that they add a comment to every day, week, etc. Maybe you can do that if all else fails!

Good luck again!

Monday's thread

Yeah, I didn't see anything offensive either, but they usually match keywords - I won't mention what I think the keywords were or else this one will get blocked too lol

(Hypatia) re time zones

I was stuck on the time zone thing for a long time and now probably should apologise for all the whinging I did about it at the time (no pun intended lol).

In Australia I am 14 to 17 hours ahead of people in north America and 10 hours ahead of western Europe (though then there's daylight saving too!). There are people in other time zones too, like Asia, which is closer to our time. I usually check in on the previous day's thread unless I feel inspired to start one myself or someone starts one in the evening for the next day.

Sometimes we have had some mix-ups with wrong dates and doubling up, too, but it all works out OK in the end it seems to me.

I am a lot more relaxed about it now, and hope it can work out for you too! Smile

thanks all for the

thanks all for the encouragement.  I am very good at getting myself unnecessarily tangled up with "what-if's" and think I have just done so.  I'll stop panicking and try out some of the suggested solutions. And I'm certainly not as far ahead in time as  findingaway!

re: thread start times

We have people all around the world, so yes, someone will probably already be in your tomorrow! It's perfectly fine to start the thread whenever you like, even the day before.
