Climing To The Top "When we surrender, we get the Grace and strength to carry any legitimate burdens we have. Carrying them is important for the temple, other people, and us. Often we don't see the benefits until  later, after we're done climbing. We can endure almost any pain or problem, or carry any burden--if it's for a good reason.  Purpose transforms ordinary tasks into sacred missions.  Mistakes become destiny instead of random fate. • After dinner - dishes, piano 8 pm or before

Was feeling scared, but now excited that I'm posting.

Later: It was a good day even though I didn't do everything on my list and got a little off-track towards the evening. I noticed that I was working well although I noticed my tendency to do slightly off-task things even when I am working. Also, I set  myself too much - probably because I've promised the report to the client by Friday - but noticed how when I am unrealistic in my planning then I get disappointed with my achievement, want to give up and fall into procrastination again. But I can see some light at the end of the tunnel too!

Determined to be back tomorrow.

Jester's Tuesday

11:33am
Good morning, everybody!
OK, doing this check-in because it's on my schedule to do. Tired, sad and discouraged this morning. But I suited up and showed up, and here I am!

Jester

For Jester:

Sorry to hear you had a rough start. Hope your day got better and better!

Thanks Sammy

Yes it did get better and better, slowly but steadily. I grimly focused on the highest-priority task, stuck with it, and got it done. While I was engaged in this, my pal Harry phoned me for lunch. We met and he gave me quite a pep-talk/lecture. Then the rain fell and cleared up the oppressive mugginess. Then after lunch my gf who said she was quite upset this AM showed up to visit me briefly. Very nice moral support. So yes, it did get better. Very surprised!

Hello everyone,

Thanks Vic for starter. Nice photo and reading! Surrender.

1. Check in - show up - Done

2. Exercise - Done (may do more later today but got a short walk and calisthentics in)

3.  Check calendar - Done

 4. Plan to Plan - Done (did assignments to staff and did my top 3 lists as well)

5. Gratitudes - done (instead of general stuff, said the 3 things I was grateful for yesterday even though I didn't "feel productive" enough about some of them :) what a shock. I never feel productive enough unless I've had an amazing 12 hour work day. Not realistic for sure :)

6.   Self love affirmations. Said that out loud.

Reading material for day "What's a procrastinator? The answer's easy. They're some of the most loving, caring people I know." (revised Beattie)

"We don't need to limit an inventory of ourselves to the negatives. Focusing only on what's wrong is a core issue in our procrastination.  Honestly, fearlessly as: "What's right with me? What are my good points?:

Is there something I do particularly well? Am I good at being there for others? Do I have an ability to make something good out of barely nothing at all? Am I good as part of a team or as a leader? Do I have a way with words or emotions? Do I see the best in people?

These are character assets. We may have goneto an exreme with these, but that's okay. We are now on our way to finding balance.

Recovery is not about eliminating our pesonality. Recovery aims at changing, accepting, working around, or transforming our negatives, and building on our positives. We all have assets; we only need to focus on them, empower them, and draw them out in ourselves.

Procrastinators are some of the most loving, caring people around. Now, we're learning to give some of that concern and nurturing to ourselves.

Thought for day: Today, i will focus on what's right with me. I will give myself some of the caring I've extended to the world.

Have a great day and let's also focus on what's right with us.Wink

For today I need to:

*Send a few emails (DC, safety office, IP office, KT, SS), place orders (will finish this soon)
*Come up with plan for Kitl staining
*Catch up on lab nb
*Go to dance class
*Make schedule for the week
(will do this soon)
*Extract DNA/do P-C extractions, take samples to histology (have made good progress on this)

Depending on the protocol I decide is best, I might start Kitl staining today; if not, I'll work on something else (primer orders for Southern?)

Update 2: Not going to start Kitl staining today, so I'll try to get primer orders for Southern placed instead

Starting with 2 emails, then plan for Kitl staining

Journey 9:40 &

Unexpected work-from-home day due to car trouble, which is both good and bad.   I'm getting a late start, partly becaue of the car and partly because I've been sitting around doing absolutely nothing.   I feel depressed and stressed at the same time.   I have a very stressful 10:30 meeting coming up and I guess that's what is keeping me from getting started.   I will now go through my morning routine and plan to have my todo list done before the 10:30 meeting.   It can't be that bad, right?  But I have to tell them we are late on some documentation for my project - not my fault, but I'm the acting project manager so I'm reponsible.  This time someone else's procrastination is impacting ME lol.

Update noon:  The horrid meeting is over, it was TWO HOURS.  I'm not the only one that's behind on stuff lol and some people are in BIG TROUBLE.  My issues seemed small by comparison.  I made the guy that's late on my stuff come to the meeting and speak for himself, and also got someone to agree to work with him on the problems he's having - so he'll have help and also have to be accountable to this other person on a daily basis.  See, my procrastination experience is good for something :)   I know what will make him more productive because I know what works for me.   Let's hope it doesn't backfire!

Gee whiz the morning is over.   I have my todo list for the rest of the day, and I'm going to have lunch now before I get too hungry and end up snacking on junk food.

Sammy :: 10/19

Good morning, everyone. Hope you all have a sunrise as pretty as the one outside MY window right now!

Went to bed much earlier than expected last night (was expecting an all-nighter), but working with sharp blades and hot glue while very, very tired is not a good idea, and it was the safe choice, i think.

Made steady progress last night. Especially in the last few hours. Hoping for similar progress today... I will MAKE it happen! At this point, my project is where it should have been a week ago, which was basically my goal for where to be by today. I'll have to go to the critique without it finished, but at least I have SOMETHING, right?

Today:

Before class:

Sculpture:

1. Finish Leg structure

2. Start figuring out how to do skin.

After Class:

Work

Design meeting

English homework

SLEEP. (goal: in bed by 11)

11:00 pm

Well... I missed my mark of being in bed by 11. Need to finish my english homework and submit it by 12. Just figured out I have a paper due in an hour, but its not going to be ready by then...Hopefully I can turn it in late? *sigh*. Homework time... my motivation? GETTING TO BED!

today...

Thanks to Vic for starting today checkin thread.
I find my progress slow but it is important to keep in mind that recovery is a process and there many years of bad habits to modify. Its conquering one little bit of fear at a time. At this point I am just glad I stick on wth it and get here everyday to do my daily plan. The serenity prayer helps a lot. I am grateful for finding this fellowship. Its easier to understand what is going with me through the testimony of others.
Procrastination is like a credit card: it's a lot of fun until you get the bill.

Show up (done), think it through, move . I know that my purpose is toknow my HP as best I can and be used by my HP. The only reason I have any recovry. Other than that my life seems to unfold. My job now is to homeschool my 2 teens, but I keep drifting thinking I could do some exciting job on top of this, then I criticize myself because it does not fit into what I am doing and truth be told, it is my ego- I feel this job is "beneath" me. I need to humble myself and realize this is how my HP is using me right now. Also I need to move around more, too much stationary work slows me down.

Thanks for being here and letting me share.

PM Walking early really helped me with the rest of my day.
